My new pawn, Gabrielle, is actually very quiet. But Iorveth is a chatterbox. Methinks it's time for him to sit in the Knowledge Chair.

Arg, as soon as I finish Riptide, I'm coming back to Dragon's Dogma. I miss this game. I don't have DA, but I'll probably borrow it eventually.

A week or so ago I plopped the disc in my xbox, intending to muck about for about a half-hour, just looking at my stats and stuff... ended up clearing out the Ancient Quarry and doing a bunch of extermination quests.

@happy_daiz I noticed you mentioned needing a snakeskin purse. That takes me back. I went up and down that river dozens of times before I found it. I was convinced for a while that I was in the wrong place.

We bought two copies of Riptide, so my hubs and I can play it together, and haven't even taken the shrink wrap off. Too busy with DD:DA and Defiance. Such a problem, huh? Hehe.

Do you remember where you found that silly purse?

I think it's in a random fish/gather spot midway up the river. Or it's dropped by a saurian. I don't remember. I never had to do the hunt for it in my latest playthrough because I had an extra in storage.

Gotcha, thanks!

So last night, I went back to my other playthrough. I found Reynard straight away, near the fountain in Gran Soren, and decided that that Arisen would be the one to snag him. I immediately started giving him Reminishrooms, and eventually, my Arisen Bond.

Then I had that moment - the moment of "oh, crap, was that the right thing to do?" I wondered if maybe I should have chosen someone else. Or obtained a forgery of the Arisen Bond first. I contemplated whether Valmiro would have been a better choice (he has a cut scene, at least!). Or Madeleine, so she could continue being a merchant. *sigh*

Yep. Definitely overthinking it.

I should start including a thumbnail of the Arisen I'm talking about, since I keep switching back and forth. Posted Image

Also, have you guys heard about that title update (patch) that can corrupt your save files? I'm not sure which platform it affects, but I'm wondering if that's what happened to Bekkael?

Trust me - it doesn't matter.  Reynard may actually be a better choice than most, as he disappears for good if you complete his search party quest. If he's your love interest, he stays at your house and still sells you stuff.

Or obtained a forgery of the Arisen Bond first.

I had two real ones in my game, one i got from a tablet in the witchwood, and one that Grigori dropped in the Greatwall(? It's been a while) battle. Barnaby got them both. I ended up with Selene.

Well, it hasn't hit me, and I have the update. But that's nasty.

OK, I'll try my best to be content with Reynard. A merchant boyfriend can't be such a bad thing, right?

And that's awful about Barnaby. I had him maxed out in my first playthrough, but hadn't given him the AB. I actually hadn't gotten it yet, so I was happy for this thread coming back to life, to save me! Too bad I botched my other decisions in that run, though.

Last night, I fought the drake near the Shadow Fort for the first time in this run, and wow. Wow. It took an hour. Literally. My stupid pawns just kept standing there, doing nothing, and didn't say, "Oh no, a drake!" until right before he grabbed one, or dive-bombed them. I aided them more times than I care to recall, as of course, they were all three downed at once, pretty much every time. Long story short, pretty much ALL of the damage made to that stupid drake was by my character. One hour later, I was able to walk away with its (and my own) tears.

Yeah your new pawn probably didnt have the Dragon knowledge yet. That fight hurt when I did it the other day with my pawn still as a warrior. I was so used to her Strider configuration where she would cling to the dragon's heart like a rabid weasel.

I'm so glad she finally maxed warrior so I could swap her back.

Nope, and apparently my support pawns hadn't fought a drake yet. It was folly, really - my character is still in the level 20s, and had no business trying it, but I know the flight pattern of that particular drake, and knew I could live through it from sheer will alone.

I just maxed Magick Archer on this character, and am thinking about what to do next. I was playing as a Mystic Knight on my other pt, and I really like that class a lot. I'm toying with the idea of giving Assassin another shot. I've definitely come to the conclusion that the mage classes aren't for me.

More agonizing decisions. Posted Image

So I borrowed Dark Arisen from my brother (he has a bigger backlog of games than I do, he'll never get around to play it) and installed it.

I only had about twenty minutes to play, but.... it seems to load a lot faster. That's nice. I can't wait to tackle the new area.

I made a new pawn with an art of metamorphosis, pictures to come later, probably tomorrow. I don't recall ever being able to rotate the camera after you go into the photo sharing menu, but you can now. Maybe I was just blind.

I was looking through the list of swords, and started getting all kinds of giddy. I got Caladbolg last night (which isn't great, aside from the elemental damage), but in looking at the others in the list, I'm all kinds of excited to see the higher-level ones, including the DA ones.

Also, I'd forgotten about the Dragonforging of items. I need to see if anything got lucky in my Drake fight last night!

Well, I said tomorrow, but..we postponed our Riptide session, so...

Here's Shinon, my level 69 strider, about to shoot me in the back, probably right after saying "I will protect you, Arisen."

He's great.

^ Ooh, nice. Which platform are you on? Methinks I'd have a use for him. Posted Image

Actually, I just switched my character over to Assassin, and my main pawn to Warrior last night. This really threw off my husband, who was expecting Gabrielle to be a Ranger when he recruited her. Oops.

I'm really surprised at how quickly I raised our vocation levels. In one evening, I got it up to 7/10. Of course, the tail end will probably take forever. I'm still trying to figure out which skills to invest in for Assassin - I keep buying the sword skills, but I'm wondering if I should be using daggers instead? I miss the targeting of the bow from Magick Archer.

I'd forgotten how easy Chimera are. I was kind of avoiding them, but now they're fair game. Muhaha.

And first on my agenda tonight is getting "Alluvial Yore-Ore", whatever that is.

I just noticed that in that pic, my Arisen has ice affinity activated while fighting goblins.

She plays by her own rules.

I'm pretty sure it was my brother's pawn, the wonderfully named Trampington, that "granted me ice's bite."

You know, it's funny what pawns say. Most would tell you the whole "Goblins are weak to fire!" line, but Lady Dejah, my husband's pawn, always says that they're weak to ice and fire.

So you guys must know something most people don't. Posted Image

Well, I haven't played Dragon's Dogma for like..a year. When I started the game last week I noticed the new "hard mode". In my new game + it was waaaay too easy so I started a new game. My god, this is madness! :D I had my problems in the first playthrough but this time.. I can't even stand two hits from a goblin. This is just awesome. Great game, really great game.

Welcome back! It had been about that long for me, too, and I must say, it's nice to play DD again. That time away gave me time to miss it.

I installed Dark Arisen, but still haven't started that part yet. One of these days. Maybe this weekend.

Make sure you bring plenty of wakestones and healing items. And beware of Garms.

I keep feeling like I should actually finish the vanilla game before attempting DA..but I'm pretty far away from that. I have't actually finished the game in either of my playthroughs. One is fairly close, but in the other, I'm at level 36, and am still just doing the Wyrm Hunt quests. I've been focusing on notice board stuff, as some of the booty is decent.

Also, I thought I should get my feet wet with big prey again. That Drake I fought the other night convinced me that I really need more practice before I move on.

I will probably pop in to talk to the lady/vendor, but leave right away.

And Wakestones? Yeesh, I think I only have two pieces of one, atm. The only full one I had, I used on that kid near the pawn guild.

I'm level 160 and it still gives me trouble. The first couple of levels aren't that bad, but then your pawns annoy a gorecyclopes while a pack of garms attack and death crashes your party... and sorcerers are casting maelstrom on you the entire time.

Bloody hell, that sounds ridiculous.

I've been reading about a bunch of weapons and gear that are available post-vanilla-game. After you "beat" it, do sidequests and notice board quests continue to pop up? If they do, yikes, it might be a few weeks before I even attempt DA. I'll be busy, busy, busy. And I'll admit I'm a bit more scared now than I was.

Side-quests are still there, and I definitely recommend acquiring some Everfall gear before attempting BBI. Farm the offline Ur-Dragon for wakestones and holy weapons. I have too many Ascalons from doing that so if you want one you're welcome to it. You should also do all of the "From a Different Sky" quests. Repairing rift stones and purifying cursed gear gets expensive.

Thanks for the advice! In hindsight, I wish I would have gotten further in my first run. As it is, I started a new playthrough without NG+, and am basically starting all over.

Those "From a Different Sky" quests are strange. There's one (I think it's number 11) that I have't figured out yet. The badge appears to be in Gran Soren proper, near the fountain, but I can't seem to locate it. I'm pretty sure it's on a rooftop, but I haven't figured out how to get up there on this side of the wall.

There was another one, too, right next to a river that I didn't find, and the brine was not my friend. Waa. I'll look those up. It was also part of From a Different Sky, part 2.

Is there anything you can do with the Badge of Vows you acquire?

Keep them for NG+ and acquire RC for free.
