Huh. I might have to try that. This new pawn of mine has only been used 5 times by other players. There must not be much demand for warrior class, eh?

Personally, I hire mages and sorcerers the most. I'm thinking about doing a vocation change for Gabrielle, but I'm too close to the end of the mq to feel comfortable with it. I suppose I could grind for a while...

I get a message that my pawn has assisted another Arisen. He came back wearing a dress, saying he "tried his hardest."

WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU, SHINON? ;)

I actually think he was hired merely to put him in a dress. I got no rift crystals, which means he did nothing. If he'd been hired to go to Ophis' camp... why not just hire a female pawn? Why go and buy a dress and then leave it on him?

So many questions. I got a good chuckle out of it, so good on ya, makato23, whoever you are :)

6. Figured I'd get you some rift crystals while I'm playing the main quests.

I'll be hiring Shinon again, once I get back to playing as a Mystic Knight. I went back to Magick Archer, because I think I might do better with that in the Greatwall. But, we will see! My original plan was to fight a golden golem as an archer, but I never quite made it there.

Well, I just screwed myself out of the Hero achievement. The wiki says this about the quest "Duchess in Distress", which I've never done, and was my last remaining quest for the achievement.

This quest, if already activated, will fail if you speak to the Dragonforged right after Deny Salvation.

WRONG. It fails INSTANTLY after Deny Salvation is completed.

...and Grigori didn't drop an Arisen's Bond. Not sure what triggers that.

Well at least my love interest will be a surprise. Barnaby and Selene are still at their respective "homes", I killed Madeleine at least twice and Quina once, I missed Duchess in Distress, obviously...never did Search Party or Farewell, Valmiro this time around...

...hmm. I'm truly stumped. Asalam? Caxton? Ser Random Knight #7? Well now I HAVE to know.

Edit: Affinity in NG+ is messed.

...it was Aelinore, because I forgot to attack her after that Arousing Suspicion quest. The game really forces her on you, doesn't it? I avoided doing her quest before Deny Salvation so this wouldn't happen. Oh well. Doesn't really matter anyway, I s'pose.

I DID have my heart set on Feste, though.

Hmm. That worked fine for me last night?

I had accepted Duchess in Distress and Deny Salvation before I ran off to the Greatwall Encampment, and it did not fail for me once I finished Deny Salvation. I still haven't talked to the Dragonforged, and I was able to do the Duchess quest immediately following.

And egads, I wanted to barf at the little tryst with Aelinore. Not only did I have to make out with her, but I had to carry her in certain parts during the getaway. And listen to her voice. (My ears are still ringing from it). I got the Love-In-The-Rough and was on my way. And suddenly I'm thinking of Neil Diamond.

So I ventured into Bitterblack Island last night. Holy hell, that's a lot of fun! My adventuring drew to a close when two of my pawns were petrified by a dang cockatrice, so I had to use a Lifestone to get back to what's-her-face at the entrance.

I had her purify a few things for me, and ended up with the Mistletoe (unicorn) circlet, a shield I'll never use, three rings, some armor that's escaping me atm, and a secret augment for reducing damage when falling. Got to fight some new foes, and had a ball. I'm looking forward to continuing tonight. Maybe if I get good enough gear, I'll go visit that naughty dragon, and be done with it.

@Shep - You'll have to let us know who you end up with! And OMG, Feste? Posted Image

Yeah, I didn't know it at the time, but the dragon had taken Aelinore, which was what cancelled the quest. So I guess the wiki is right.

Still not impressed. Grigori should know better. That comic on the last page is spot on.

When my Arisen woke up in Cassardis she killed Aelinore after her heartfelt "oooh, my hero, you saved me" speech. I'm curious if lowering affinity with your "love interest" (I use the term loosely) affects the final cutscene, as it seemed to in my first playthrough. Guess I'll find out tonight.

Oh geez. If it's not one little girl, it's another. I guess I'm glad the game didn't decide Aelinore was my love interest, too. I'm still crossing my fingers for Reynard. And I'm so close! But now I'm all over Bitterblack Island.

I saw that grim reaper guy, and nearly crapped my pants. He almost one-shotted me (I literally had one point left in my health bar), so I took some pots and ran away. I have no idea what you're supposed to do with that guy. Luckily, he disappeared.

Later on, I ran into a huge chained-up Cyclops, and a bunch of skeleton mages. I wasn't able to do any damage to him with my magick bow, but he wasn't posing much of a threat, so I left him there. I'm sure we'll meet again at some point.

I also met the other Arisen, repaired a riftstone, and nearly got eaten by a huge worm that glomped onto my head when I opened a chest. That was unexpected, but cool.

You gave him an Arisen's Bond, right? If Grigori dropped one at the end of Deny Salvation, Reynard's the one he took.

Yes, I gave Reynard my Arisen's Bond, but Grigori didn't drop a ring, that I noticed. Uh-oh. Posted Image

And I didn't see my LI at all. Does that happen before Grigori flies off to Tainted Mountain for the final battle?

Edit: nevermind. I think I'm skunked, as even the wiki says this should have happened before Grigori flew off (dropping the ring, at least).

I gave Mercedes a lifetime supply of cloudwine. She's always my LI.

Ranger+Tenfold Flurry+Blast arrows= dead Reaper according to Gamefaqs. I've yet to try it.

There's a quest to defeat two of them at the Shadow Fort. While standing on the building with the ballistae, they can look you in the eye...

Also, you should grab a few skeleton keys and conqueror's periapts.

^ I like Mercedes, and I feel bad for her in Pride before a Fall. She might be my LI in my next run...although the whole LI thing still seems to be a slippery doorknob.

I don't enjoy the Ranger and Strider classes as much as Magick Archer, because they don't lock on. Yes, I'm a wimp, but that class makes me look goood. Hehe.

I think before I head back into Bitterblack, I'm going to swap vocations back to Mystic Knight, and see how that goes. I don't have a read on what the best class is for that place just yet.

There's two of those massive cyclops at the Shadow Fort? Wha...? I fought two there initially, when I cleared out the place, but it seems like this one is way bigger. Maybe it's just because he's chained up. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong?

I've never used those periapts at all. I have a massive stockpile of them, so it sounds like they'll come in handy. Thanks!

They really should have locked in whomever you give the arisen's bond to as your LI. I don't like jumping through hoops to avoid getting certain people...

Magick archer is the best class for finding the macabre sculptures since you need levitate and double vault to reach some of them. Ricochet hunter is also unbelievably powerful in the corridors. The Trophy armor set is also nice to look at and benefits the MA more than other yellow classes.

The prisoner gorecyclops will spawn only when you have the appropriate notice board quest, so you didn't miss anything.

I only started using periapts after trying (and failing) to beat the final boss for the second time. Trying to run through BBI as a warrior really hammered in all the limitations of my favored class.

And if your purifying cursed items, switch yourself and your pawn to one of the "pure classes" you want items for. For example, if you want daggers switch to a ranger or strider and you have a better chance of getting daggers. You could also get any of the three bows, but you won't recieve swords, maces or shields.

I haven't gotten very far in BBI, but I've only found one macabre sculpture so far, and you're right - it was up high.

Goreclops - yes, that's what it's called. That thing is enormous! I'll head back there at some point to take him out, but for now, I'm still trying to get the lay of the land.

I've been wondering how the purification process works. I acquired several items, then went back to the entrance. I did a save, then had Olra cleanse them. I then reloaded and they were the same items the second time. I was playing as a Magick Archer my entire time in there, so I was surprised at receiving a shield as cursed loot - I thought it was weighted towards vocation type.

I might have to switch vocations on my main pawn. That turd had to be re-summoned from a rift stone twice while I was in there. Or maybe we need to have a Knowledge Chair discussion... I believe I have her set to actively challenge harder foes, instead of being a Guardian.

Magick shields might be in the "blue" loot list, or your main pawn was a warrior and netted you a Fighter/Assassin shield. Magick archers get items from both the yellow and blue loot tables. The items you get are already decided when you pick up the cursed object, but they can be any of three items depending on what class you and your pawn are when you purify. You can also trade the cursed item to someone else and they could receive something completely different despite purifying with the same class.

As for your pawn, she might not have enough knowledge of the enemies yet. Mine dies much less now that she's been through BBI several times and I've given her better gear. You can also buy potions from Jonathan at the encampment that affect your pawns inclinations. Much easier to feed them ten challenger/scather potions than dealing with the chair.

Ahh, I didn't know that my pawn's vocation would factor into it. She's a warrior class, so that makes more sense. The shield wasn't a magick shield, sadly. I believe it could only be equipped by an Assassin or Fighter.

I keep thinking I should change her into a mage, so I can wear her current Chimera armor as a Mystic Knight, hehe. It's sad that that is the best armor I have atm, although I did pick up some new stuff she could wear as a mage. I'll probably have to grind a bit, as it would be a new class for her, but I bet she'd level it quickly in BBI.

Yeah, it was my/our first time in there, so that makes sense. I'll be paying Jonathan a visit anyway, just to lock some things in with her.

Fastest way to level up a vocation is in post-game after you meet the duke. Enemies that give less than 100xp also give the largest dcp gains. There's an infinitely spawning enemy that focuses on the arisen and a conveniently located wall they can't climb in post-game. A couple of hired sorcerers with maelstrom... It's cheap, but effective for leveling classes you don't usually use.

We are the few, the proud, the lowly console peasants. My GT is the same as my name here. The last time my pawn went up for rent was about sixty levels ago on the original DD so she could help out a friend of mine.

Sadly, the game won't let you send most Bitterblack Isle gear, or even normal gear that's been silver/gold dragonforged. A few vanilla weapons can no longer be sent, I hear, like the Carnation.

You CAN however send cursed (unpurified) Bitterblack items.

Can I just say I love Bitterblack Isle?

Because I do. I love it. I fought my first elder ogre, and despite my pawns saying it targets men above all else, it would not STOP targeting my female Arisen. possibly because she was ricocheting arrows into his face non-stop. That might have something to do with it.

Pictures to come later, not of the elder ogre fight, as that was near pitch-black, lol.

I wish the targeting circle wouldn't show up in screenshots, I like this one. I'd like it BETTER without the circle.

Silly Arisen, you can't Dogforge weapons.

And here's Alynna and Shinon, having a little footrace while Pepsi the mage heals warrior Squall.
