So I'm pretty sure I'm on the last boss in DA. The big demon guy who was in love with his pawn. He's easy to evade and hit with magic arrows, but wtf he takes no damage!!! My main pawn and I are lvl 80 (Magic archer and Ranger, and I also have a lvl 151 sorcerer and lvl 90 mage in the party) and it took us like 15 minutes to take about ONE health bar from him. It's crazy :o

Bring Conqueror's and Demon's periapts with you to increase your damage. His head is his weak spot and I think he's weak to holy, ice or both. I've been farming him with a strider and just cling to his face and use hundred kisses untill he dies. You'll also want several wakestones, liquid vim, smother sap, large mushrooms and the best healing potions you can get.

You should also know that the first time is the easiest. He gains a second, more powerfull  form when you fight him again.

Well, crap. I guess I'll be doing a switcheroo on both my
character and my pawn at some point, then. I need a skill that will let me
carry more gear - it seems like it doesn't take much before my character is
hobbling around like an old lady. I do use my pack mu--err, support pawns, but
still. I'm even careful to wear light armors if I can help it.

Taller, heavier characters have a higher carying cappacity. The Sinew augment grants a higher carry weight and Leg-Strength allows you to move one rank lighter in mobility.

Dire dragonkin usualy start showing up after you beat Daimon the first time. You'll also find them as the target of noticeboard quests.

I'm not sure if the pawns are gaining any new knowledge, and sometimes bosses don't want to cooperate with me on educating them. But both Shinon and Gabrielle have been through the entirety of BBI and fought most of what it can throw at them. I hope they're a little more experianced from our travels.

Why isn't there a multiquote option here?<_<

^ You are so awesome, to do that for us. It's also been really nice to use both of your pawns. Image IPB

Seriously, this work day needs to be over, so I can rush home to play! I can't wait to see what Gabrielle's learned.

So can I change my character's actual height, after the fact? Dang, I had no idea height/weight would have a bearing on how much you could carry.

Jonathan sells a "Secret of Metamorphosis" item that lets you alter your pawn and arisen from the main menu whenever you want. If you do decide to make changes, I recommend writing down the current sliders so you can change things back if you want.

Heavier characters also have slower stamina regen, taller characters have greater reach and I think they run faster too. Exceptionally small char. can be thrown onto a ledge or enemy and climb into goblin holes. I'm sure there are other things I'm forgetting...

Good advice, and I forgot all about that guy. I think I'll probably make both my character and my pawn taller. The really super small pawns make me uncomfortable. I think it's because they usually look like little kids - their faces just seem really super young looking.

I love the design of these guys. Although my overencumbered mage looks like she's saying "Seriously, guys, give me a break, I'm carrying like seventy harspud sauces for some reason." But yeah, the first few floors of BBI are in fact Harspud Sauce Dumping Ground. I don't know how many I have in storage now.

Image IPB
"T'is a rock, master. It appears to be barreling toward us. Let's have a closer look."

And thanks for the gear, Carcharoth. Ended up with Carrion Claws and Grave Greaves. The greaves had the movement speed boost while casting spells.

Some of the stuff I'm trying to silver/gold dragonforge has "???" as required items, which is a colossal pain in the rear. Shinon's Heresy Cloak, which has rather crummy stats but looks awesome on him, is one of them. Even the wiki doesn't know the item required. I have oodles of ox horns, which is the goldforge item, but of course it won't let you skip silver. I'd say it was an item I'd never seen before, but a lot of the items in the silver/gold lists were things I hadn't seen at the time. It's a puzzler.

^ I've noticed those ??? on some items as well. It's terribly frustrating, but I just keep telling myself that I haven't found whatever particular ingredient it is yet, and it will come.

I'm right around level 60, and I just finally got Pigeon's Blood a few nights back (took me long enough). I wasn't able to loot those stupid wights atop the Greatwall, since I killed them too quickly, arrgh. My husband just did that quest a couple of nights ago, and I sat with him while he did it, to make sure he didn't miss anything. Sure enough, they dropped a ton of materials that I missed out on. Bugger. He also got different loot than I did. No dark-enchanted Kunai for him.

I love the images, keep them coming!  Image IPB

Wait so Elder Ogres are gay?

Because come on. We all know those ogres are getting sexually excited.

Well I've finally decided to go to Bitterblack Isle. It's not as hard as I had expected but I'm not that far in yet. I encountered a garm which was tricky to kill but it netted me 50,000 EXP which is quite a lot (keep in mind I'm on hard mode). Drakes are no match for me anymore and I can kill them within less than two minutes and the abysmal anguish skill truly enhances my strength and stagger power.

I am really enjoying the mystic knight class. Much more fun than the fighter, warrior, sorcerer and magic archer. The great cannon can be combined with enchantments such as flame trance so that every bolt hit away is on fire. Summon three fire great cannons in the same spot and you can fell Cyclopes within less than a minute. There's so much strategy available for the mystic knight and at the same time the fact that it can wield a shield and sword/hammer/mace means you've basically got a versatile warrior with ranged attacks and buffing powers.

I'm enjoying everything about the new content. The areas actually have great atmosphere and the loot is far improved than the stuff you would encounter in the original.

I'm up to that Giant Beholder at the moment. LV 68.

I've never been a mystic knight for longer than about ten minutes. I think my arisen has two vocation levels in it. I really should give that a try again. I know I'm incredibly far out of my element as a warrior. Bleh.

Haha, those are great. I really need to get some levels in Fighter and Warrior under my belt - I really want the Sinew skill (from Fighter). This girl needs deeper pockets! Image IPB

I'm realizing that you and your pawn really should try out every vocation to get max skills/benefits. I'm having a hard time unwrapping my fingers from my Magick Bow, though. I switched Gabrielle over to Fighter. She's around the seventh rank of it, I believe. Once she maxes that, I think she might be a Strider. We'll see.

Carcharoth42 wrote...

Skeleton sorcerers drop pigeon blood.

Yep, and I have fought a lot of them, but none were dropping Pigeon's Blood. I've also fought several Wights, and have yet to get a Black Crystal.  Ah, well, there's time.

BTW, I got two new identical cloaks from BBI loot that are fantastic - called a Sovereign's Mantle (I think?), but it kind of looks something like a Direwolf Cape atop a long furry brown cloak. The stats are way better than anything I had in my inventory, even unimproved, so yay! My character and her pawn will both be rockin' that look very soon.

I'm simply amazed at my obsession level with this game right now. I played for quite a while right when DD originally came out, but burned myself out (probably from over-play). Now I have a renewed joy, and am having a blast with it.

It's pretty awesome to have friends that are willing to help you out. Thanks, you two.

I think my pawn has everything maxed but mage and sorcerer, which he hasn't touched. If I switch him over to one of those, I'd have to completely reconstruct him with a secret of metamorphosis, as the "real" Shinon is an archer, plain and simple.

If you need rare materials, I'd be happy to help out, provided I don't need them myself. I've got a good stockpile. I think I need one more septiscopic crystal, which is dropped by maneaters... when they're not being jerks and only dropping moonstones

Sorry, I actually meant 'me and my pawn', not 'you and your pawn'. My words got away from me. Hehe.

My husband is a Magick Archer, and his pawn is a Sorcerer. He's almost up to level 50, and neither of them have changed vocations. At all.

My fight with Grigori from a few nights ago was over in a matter of minutes, with Briana's help. I barely had to do anything, aside from shooting him down with a ballista once.

My husband's fight with Grigori, which happened last night, was painful to watch. It went on for so long that even the dragon seemed annoyed, and kept squashing his character under his claws. He went through nearly all of his curatives before he finally killed him. I couldn't believe the difference. Grigori pulled some new moves I didn't get to see (probably because my fight was over so quickly).

Thanks, Sarah! I'll take a look tonight, and will let you know. What can I possibly gift to you guys that you'd want?

So recently I had the "pleasure" of fighting Briana. She was converted by Daimon and had almost full health when it happened. She killed me twice before Shinon and Gabrielle distracted her long enough for me to put her down. So if you end up fighting her, I'm sorry. So very, very sorry...

Oh, I know what you meant, but it still IS a good idea to max all vocations with pawns. I'd just feel.. weird with a mage main pawn. And 100% wrong with Shinon as a mage.

Shinon should have that crystal you wanted, and Gabrielle has a suprise too. I kind of feel like Oprah right now.

ArisenOprah: "Check under your Pawn! Everyone gets a new Level 3 Cursed weapon!"

Except you... you get a septiscopic crystal.

Yeah, I hear that. I can't imagine making Iorveth (my male pawn in my other run) play as a mage or sorcerer, either. It really doesn't fit at all. Especially now that he has an eye patch, a long ponytail, and facial hair. Old Iorveth was kind of a wussy; this new version is much more badass. I wonder if I should play that run for a while? Hmm.

It's like I have two games going in tandem - the other one is nearly the same place I was in this run a few days ago. I really should have waited for NG+ to start a new character.

@Carcharoth - you are the best ArisenOpray ever! I can't wait to see what Gabrielle got! Maybe something furry to go with her new cloak? OK, that sounded wrong. Just think "puppies" or something.

So I've finally gotten around to snapping a picture of my arisen and pawn. This isn't rly up to date as I changed the arisen's shirt cause I needed the stats, but when not fighting one shotting enemies this is how it is.Pawn's on the right and the left is the my dude. Ignore the loli elf wizard in the background, I summoned her for...reasons...

We went into the Watergod's Altar post-game, and I was planning to take a photo of the wyrm, but completely spaced it off. The next thing I knew, he was dead. Waa.

We went to the Shadow Fort later, and fought a hydra. Again, I missed the shot.

@Ghost - No need to explain that one. Image IPB

I need to start playing as a mage or sorceror to get the magic buffing augments. I just don't like the idea of switching off of magick archer. I've played that class since I unlocked it, so it would be like watching self degrading slap stick comedy for me to try a class without homing arrows and flaming daggers. :P

^ Aww, you'll be fine. If I can do it, you can definitely do it. I know what you mean, though - Magick Archer seems to have spoiled all of us, hasn't it?

I don't like that casting takes so long as a mage. I'm far too impatient to wait for that.

I've maxed Magick Archer, Mystic Knight, and Assassin. Mage and Ranger are about halfway. I seem to have wasted a lot of time, not learning any of the remaining skills/vocations. Luckily, I've got about 40 levels to try to take advantage of stat growth.

I'm really enjoying this game on hard mode. At times it's harder than Dark Souls. Trying to get all my equipment dragon-forged at the moment before returning to Bitterblack. I wonder how my other characters would fare on hard difficulty...

I really need to get my flame resistance up as that's my character's major weakness at this moment. You'd think a mystic knight (skilled with magic) would have resistance to magical attacks but no.

...I can't seem to connect to xbox live. I was online for about a second, then got disconnected. I thought I'd have a couple hours to play today, I suppose technically I still *could*, but...

I've also been getting lots of errors uploading the screencaps, sometimes I'll have to try it three or four times before it gets through. Stupid internets.

edit: nvm, online. Just needed to insult the internet several times.

Well, I defeated Grigori for the very first time last night (with Carcharoth's help, thank you!). Now that is how a dragon battle should be. I love me some Skyrim, but even Alduin was a pushover compared to that. Granted, I'm only level 59 (now), but I had only fought two Drakes before that.

And I ended up with Madeleine. It could have been worse. At least I got a merchant!

The loot was nice, although I wish I would have chosen more wisely what I was wearing. Should help out in BBI though, I think.

...

I ended up with Madeline too (despite missing out on 2 of her quests and giving me bond to someone else).
I think it is because my Arisen was female and Madeline had the best female armours so I did a lot of business with her.
(while the best male armours are with a male merchant - thus Capcom boosts same sex relationships)

My husband just ended up with Madeleine, too. The funny thing is that he really wanted to end up with Selene. He gifted her like crazy, and gave her his Arisen's Bond, and still got Madeleine.

I was befuddled by his choice, and secretly snickered at his luck. I am so mean.
