Hopefully Deep Down is the Dragon's Dogma sequel. Doesn't really make sense for Capcom to abandon the IP, and Deep Down looks incredible.

It isn't, but there is going to be a sequel to DD.

I'm exactly the same way, and I STILL enjoyed DD. What it does right far outweighs its mistakes. Graphics are meaningless to me, I still play NES/SNES games. And about the pawns, you can shut them up. I did once, but had to flip his switch back to chatty because I missed his constant pointless observations. You become accustomed to it, you really do.

Briana: A bridge! Let's hope it's sturdy!
Me: Girl, you are level infinity, pretty damn sure you been on this bridge before. Relax.

Briana has a fascination with bridges and the propensity to leap off them for little to no reason. Shinon will usually follow, thinking she may have found some rare ore below.

Yep, bridges kill my pawns more often than Death does.

I think she's getting envious of Briana and Gabrielle though :) She's whispering to my Arisen that she'd like some sexy outfits, please :P But I don't think many "sexy" options exist for fighters/warriors.

I dunno, look at my first pawn. He is all kinds of sexy.

And here's a few oddities.

A sleeping rat:

A pawn had shouted "I'll grab hold of it", the camera was supposed to zoom in on her, but instead it got distracted by some loot.

And I loaded up the game yesterday forgetting to edit my arisen first...

Hey guys. I'm running low on rift crystals and was wondering if someone wants to take my pawn out for a spin.

I'll send you a request, but my pawn Thomas is quite low levelled at the moment. Has a lot to learn!

At the moment I am in the Everfall with two cockatrices. I am dying on my arse, so I went to bed. They keep jumping on my Arisen.  They are tricky! Shinon and Thomas are hardy souls though.

I think I might need to change my Arisen to a warrior/fighter or Mystic Knight, to build up her strength. She gets through far to many potions or just dies!

Blah, I'm scared.

Bah. Crack your knuckles Yang style(my avatar) and be a woman.

That I can do, but I'm having so much fun killing myself for good gear. :P

What is it that you think other games did better?

Character appearance, game world appearance, art style in general, story/plot, companions knowing when to shut their respective mouths

Combat's all well and good, the monsters look cool, I like the idea of the lanterns and nightfall being dangerous, but I'm the kind of gamer that puts more importance on story than gameplay.

I can play a game with a great story if the combat's less than stellar, but if the story can't engage me, screw the gameplay, I'm out.

Hence why I gave up Bayonetta quite early, and why I was able to play Kingdoms of Amalur for maaany hours(and beat both its DLC's).

Game world is generic yes. Art style isn't anything special. Story has some good moments but is full of plot holes but character appearance? What's wrong with character apperances? There are some great looking characters in the game and you can create some good ones yourself. The armor/clothing designs are superb too.

For DD2 I hope they use better writers. The way all the characters come up in the credits shows that Capcom were proud of them but it's a shame they weren't fleshed out. Nothing was special about them. Maybe Capcom writers thought of them as great characters (because they have their own visions of them) but you learn little to nothing about these characters and their online-bios aren't reflected in-game. IMO the only characters who were interesting and had good plots were Quina and Valmiro. Julian was okay but they could have done so much more with his character. Wasted potential there. He was the only character who recognized the bull **** of the cout and Duke Edmun.

That's another thing. Add in some proper choices with consequences in the main plot. Some side quests had choices with consequences (Land of Opportunity) but the two choices in the main plot led to nothing. We're presented with two Arisens - Duke Edmun and the Dragon Forged. Why couldn't we have stuck our middle finger up at the Duke and just have the Dragon Forged prepare us for the dragon instead? The plot was linear and the Duke has you going on his little errands for the most part.

Although after playing through the game a second time it will strongly grow on you. After completing it the first time I was ready to sell it. Now I'm enjoying it more than Dark Souls (although Dark Souls still triumphs over DD in terms of lore, character, story and role-playing any day of the week).

I think the people working behind DD were crazy. That would explain the plot and the nearly perfected features. Capcom tempts you with gold but you as you reach out for it, it moves away from you. Combat though? They perfected that.

@oknenah - sent you a friend request (FlattestFlea726). I would be happy to rent your pawn.

@motomoto - Arya looks great (both before and now)! (miss the elf ears...lol!) It's fun to change up the look of your pawns, from time to time. Chase was completely revamped. I actually made him to look like my first Arisen (swashbuckler), in the beginning. Then, I felt the need to go a completely different direction (plus I thought it would be amusing to try and recreate Fenris, if possible). Got him to look a "bit" like Fenris, and I found an armor that worked pretty well for the look, but I tired of that too...eventually. Now he is a modified version of his Fenris look. I think I will keep him like this for a while.

As for Arya, I am going to throw a bunch of different items on her, and see if you like any. :)

Wow, Shep... yeah, he's a sexy beast of a pawn  Nice, um, skull belt??

Aww, thanks, Coldy ^_^ I am liking her new hairstyle. But the make-up might disappear. I wish I could have the eyeliner AND the cool face tattoo. Ah well. I hate that you have to choose. And YAY!! Arya loves new armor!! She's very quiet about it; I just occasionally catch her gently stroking her new gear sometimes, haha xD

I think she will be switching to warrior again soon. I just find that warriors take FOREVER to strike. Like she's hefting her big hammer or whatever, but by the time she swings, Shinon or Chase or Briana have already shot the enemy like six times. Bah.

And that right there is why Warrior is my least favorite vocation. Too freaking slow. :pinched:

Yep, I switched Gabs back to Mage, and wanted to switch cloaks, so I just whipped up her whole outfit. She also seems to have taken the time-out well. Last night, I didn't have to bust out any curatives, as she was on point. Good girl.

We were busy staining the deck today, so I'm only now starting to play. Still haven't picked up any level 3 armor. I Godsbaned for what seemed like forever on a chest last night, before finally looking it up, and realizing it was the wrong one. Crap on a ******, that was.

Anyway, I guess I'll see what I can kill today. I might use that fiend-luring essence again. Chaos reigns.

I purified the level 3 armor you sent back, it was the same hellfire cloak I sent. That means I can no longer gift Level 3 armor until I get what I want. It also explains my run of Blasphemer's Cloaks.

Shinon and my Arisen finally hit level ∞. They celebrated by heading into the Black Abbey and murdering several different types of dragons. They then hit up the Rotunda of Dread and partied with about a billion wargs and garms.

Then Shinon tried to godsbane his master. His aim's a bit off, but he's not one for close-quarter combat.

Later, my arisen found herself in the worst possible place she could ever be.

She pretty much made a mad dash for a healing spring after that.

Well, we're on the way to maybe fight Daimon. After killing off a Fire Drake and a Frost Wyrm, in the Sparyard of Scant Mercy, Death showed up. I put out my lantern, and tried Magickal Gleam on him. He actually fell to the ground...for like two seconds. I fought him long enough to hurt him, and he left after a bit of a beating. I think he's at about 50% health now. I want that Bone Lantern, dang it.

I'm using Woolie, okenenah's Sorcerer pawn, and he died often, the poor chap. I gave him a possession ring, so he didn't turn on us, at least. :D I didn't have much else to give him. I've got Briana in the party, too.

So now I'm going to use rancid bait meat for the first time, to see if I can lure a Cursed Dragon here to Dragonforge the rest of my gear. Then we'll see about the Forgotten City. If we have any curatives left after that, we'll see about the Big D. Still not sure I'm ready, but what the heck.

@Shep - congrats on infinity! :wizard:

Well, I got to the Forgotten City, and was happy to see it was just a few Living Armors, Eliminators, and one Wyvern. No big thing. However, we farted around too much before that, and I don't have enough curatives to try to fight Daimon. No periapts, either, as I somehow completely forgot.. I did, however, manage to Godsbane the West chest (by the water), until I got a Level 3 armor. Hooray!

Death showed up again, so we beat him up until he left. Somewhere in the midst of everything, Briana got the scythe.

So after everyone was beat, I Liftstoned back to Olra, did a save, and purified my loot - and got the Cloak of Shadow. Which I was already wearing.

Posted Image

I switched vocations to Sorcerer, and tried purifying it again. And guess what...

Posted Image

This girl is a happy camper! I'd been crossing my fingers for this armor. My plan was to let Gabs wear it, but I think it might be a little while. Posted Image

I have the Grave Greaves and Gauntlets, but Gabs is wearing the Greaves, atm. Hence the generic thigh-highs.

How much harder is this game if you don't use pawns? I'm sick of buying equipment for them.

Depends on the enemy and your level. I can solo most things (but then, Magick Archer is OP). But you don't NEED to buy stuff for pawns. They can get by XP

I have a friend who's doing an autonomy build. Actually, it's his second. he plays with pawns up until about level 50, then does the rest by himself.

Of course, he's a bit of a sadist (or is it a masochist?), and Dark Souls is one of his favorite games, so to him, this is a piece of cake. I always use pawns; I enjoy the company.

You shouldn't need to buy them gear; I'd recommend doing some more exploring. Before you know it, you'll have more gear than you could possibly use.

Also, BB, you can hire my pawn for free, and she comes fully dressed. Posted Image

Just go to the start menu, and choose 'Share'. It will upload to your Facebook account, assuming you have one set up and linked. From there, you can download it locally, then upload it to Photobucket, or wherever, to host it. Then just display the image here. Lots of hoops to get a picture.

Or you could snap a pic with your digital camera or phone, and upload it here.

Wave goodbye to the nice people, Death.

He dropped three bone lanterns. I didn't even think that was possible. He only carries one around with him. If someone needs one, I can now gift them.

And look at the incredible detail on these bats.
Posted Image
It's just like I'm watching a nature documentary. They're so lifelike.

And if you kill a Gorechimera without disabling the goat head first, it looks like this when it dies.
Posted Image
Its mouth was still moving, it was still upright. Kinda freaky.

And finally, I kicked around Gran Soren for a bit, and ran into Briana, so I decided to get a shot of FOUR bsn pawns.

OMG! I love that pic of the four pawns LOL It's funny but in a weird way their "personalities" seem to come through in that pic. I mean, despite the fact that they don't actually have personalities... but you know what I mean :P

This is making me want to put down my book (DA: Asunder, ironically LOL) and play 8D

@Happy - I'm done for the night, but the bone lantern is on its way, I sent you a message but you were away. It costs 165000 to duplicate. I'm actually running rather low on funds since I just bought one of everything from the Black Cat. I'm a bit of a hoarder.

Sweet. I sent you the crimson stone you wanted as well. I have about $7 million, so I should be ok. I just sold a bunch of stuff, though. Mostly Virtuoso rings. I had a zillion of them. The Preceptor and Master ones are better, but I may sell those off, too. I just don't use them.

I watched a video on Awakened Daimon, and they made it look so simple. And it illustrated to me what I was doing wrong before. I switched up my skills, and see a couple I am missing, because I didn't fully max Sorcerer and Strider, but I'll see what I can do without. I'm also on a mission to defeat Death.
