That "or" in the middle is the important bit. Perhaps it's not a colour scientifically (the first half of the quote), but literally it can be (the second half), such that someone who says "my favourite colour is black" doesn't necessarily need correcting. If they'd said "my favourite kind of visual light is black" then they'd be mistaken, but that's not the question.

As a kid I use to be fond of pink and purple XD
Now I don't really have a specific favorite. If it falls into earth colors or jewel tones it's usually my favorite.
