The world is a scary place. Seeing a movie of zombies infesting an entire town can be terrifying in its own right, but nothing instills panic in one's heart more than something within your own life - whether it be a practical joke, or a true fright. Since Halloween is coming up, it's a good time to throw in this topic.

I'm afraid that I'd be incriminating myself if I shared with everyone the one moment where I faced true, shocking fright.

I was driving on the 10 Freeway in Los Angeles in my 1980 Datsun B210 (small car) when a car in the Lane to my right 1/4 of a mile ahead of me lost its' front driver's-side tire...it bounced like a super-ball into my lane and right for me!
Everything went into slo-mo and somehow I was able to brake and accelerate in just the right combo so it ended up bouncing OVER my car! I still don't think I could have done it if I was thinking instead of purely reacting...I honestly thought it was going to come right through my windshield at 70 MPH!

Although it's not scary in the spooky sense, it's pretty memorable. I was heading home, and it was before my graduation from high school. Unbeknownst to me was the fact that the entire set of relatives(and even one of my teachers from high school)were planning a huge party for me, and all went "surprise!" at once when I walked in. I had a heart attack and ran.
Also, I got into a car crash once from a side impact. That was scary as hell. Thankfully, the side impact was in the passenger seat, which was empty.
Deathwurm: Holy crap. Sounds like something out of Final Destination.

There was once a really big spider on my arm once. Most terrifying experience ever.

- When there is bad-evil guys who want to beat you and you don't have the strength or diplomacy skills to deal with them.
- When I stuck on a rock (on a mountain)
- When there is a car coming in your line with high speed

My mother-in-law asking what I thought about her new haircut.

Virumor: Which was scarier - the haircut itself, or having to honestly answer?

The weather is finally hot in Australia and I want the cold back!

I think Canada is more scarier than Australia. Packs of wolves, thousands of Bears etc. You're so dead if they find you in the forest!

I can sympathize with Deathwurm. Some of my scary moments involved the road (and CA freeways). Probably the most memorable vehicular episode was when I was driving to Asheville however. It had been raining, and the car in front of me began to swerve, spun out and did a 360, righted itself, swerved again and did a second 360, then tapped the divider. So while I was not directly involved, I was far too close for comfort and had no idea how bad things might get.
Besides deep personal frights, a few I can share would include almost stepping on a rattlesnake in the desert, and getting attacked by a vicious dog when working as a meter reader.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

But yes I had something like what happen to the above with a rattle snake, plus a couple others is when I almost had my arm crushed or ripped out of its socket twice. Or the time a clothes line almost decapitated me from the back of a go kart. However I broke the wire, and saved my arm both times with fast reaction.

Bombs about once a week. Welcome to Northern Ireland. Although they aren't really all that scary because they have already gone off by the time you know about them and your windows are shaking.
I suppose me and two mates being chased by a doberman when we were about 14 was pretty scary. The damn thing was nearly as big as me, we took off running and the two of them had a head start on me but were nowhere near as fast. I overtook them just as they were deciding to climb a fence into a field to escape. Unfortunately I was too late to make this turn and couldn't actually stop anyway. He chased me for about a mile through a crossroads and up another road until I found a fence to scale. Apparently I passed another few mates at the crossroads, they just saw me coming through in a blur and about 20 seconds later the doberman. It was apparently nowhere near as close to catching me as I thought it was.

This time when i was at a motorbike park on a motorbike (no surprise there...), and i was going very fast on a dirt track and my bike wobbled out of control, going everywhere. I nearly had a heart attack and I'm sure i would have maybe died if i crashed. By a miracle the bike somehow regained control, i have no idea how, but it was the scariest moment of my life.

Who can remember anything with your avatar crawling toward them?

If Melrache is afraid of cougars, he/she must mean the literal kind.

I don't fear much of anything nowadays, but I remember when I was very young, I couldn't get to sleep. I heard a noise like footsteps from outside. Took a peek out my window, and I saw a silhouette of a man staring right at my room and at me the instant I opened my curtains to look.

I'm terrified of spiders. One one particular occasion several years ago, there was a powercut, so I went over to the window and opened the curtains to let in moonlight/starlight or whatever. And then waited until the lights came back on. When they did, the largest spider I've ever seen (in the UK though) was right next to my face, clinging to the curtain. I fetched my dad to get rid of it, while I hid in another room, and he killed the spider and put its body outside. When I went to bed, I read for a while, then when I reached to turn the light off, a spider that looked exactly the same was right behind my head on the wall. I hate those things. It's like they know I fear them. >.>
Anyway, not as scary as what's happened to other people, but that scared me when it happened, and did not help my spider paranoia at all.
