After upgrading to OS X Lion I can no longer play NWN1... This is such a huge bummer as I need the latest OS for work reasons. I tried getting the Windows version to work under Wine, but I've had no luck at all. Even though the game is rated "Gold" on Crossover and there is a Wineksin port, neither work (also because of OS updates?)

Bioware, you are my only hope! Any chance of a universal binary for NWN1?

Extremely unlikely.

1 in 14,000,000,000 perhaps.

Ugh. The game isn't *that* old. I really hope that Bioware will come through for their Mac users.

Maybe worst case they could assist in creating a working Wine wrapper for the Windows version?

1.69 was the absolute final patch by Bioware's own words, prior to their purchase/takeover by EA.

Bioware, the company that created NWN, no longer exists as a separate entity, and EA, the new owner, never made any monies on NWN and has no license to continue development for same.

Basically, you are out of luck, unless you can find some help via Mac Wine folks with settings adjustments etc.

NWN is ancient in support terms. It hasn't been supported for several years now. Atari is the publisher and the one responsible for support. I'm sure if you have several million dollars to fund the effort Atari would listen to you. No guarantee that they can help you though.

Bioware did set some pretty high expectations but that Bioware no longer exists. The name now belongs to EA and some of the people associated with NWN still work there. Come to think of it, didn't Bioware contract with some other firm to provide the Mac port? Regardless, Bioware can't help you now.

And Boot Camp won't work?  Of course, you'll need to get a copy of Win7 on your Mac Lion version to use it.  :(  (I've heard that Linux also boots with the latest version so that may be another option worth exploring.)

That's pretty sad. Between the Master Server being down (forever?) and no hope of a universal binary, I'm not sure what to do. I may install Bootcamp, but my drive tends to be full of video projects, so it'll be a squeeze. Might just be time to move on. I certainly got my money's worth with NWN, but I hate to see EA/Bioware let it rot... It still competes with a lot of modern games IMO.

NWN works great with Parallels.

I was reading on Aspyr's Website that Lion doesn't support even the old Power PC/Univeral platform games. If you wish to continue playing, my advice is to install Windows and continue to play. Thankfully, I play on an "old" G5 and NWN still runs great.

No other real option then to install windows. What's really disappointing is that even if you did have a supported mac much of the extra content is unavailable. I think they should be forced to list it as not fully supported if they are not going to offer everything. Saying the game is supported is a scam in my opinion if you aren't going to support the entire thing.

I had Macs my all life, and it's always been like that. That's how I moved to my next game, most of the time. Only this time... I'll make sure to keep my old but goody PPC G5 with only NWN in it.
Thanks to your warning. ;-)

I mostly play Sims 2 and NWN these days. I still have an iMac special edition with OS9 to run even older games as well. :)
