Right now I'm using Tlkedit and it is not working as I expected it would. I'm copying the lines of mod 2 and I put it in the same lines of mod 1 (it wasn't using those lines) but when I do that it breaks mod 1. I don't understand why.

Also, if there is anything else I need to do different to merge 2da files could you tell me that information as well.

Thanks guys.

Are the 2 tlks using the same line numbers? Sounds that way. If so, you would need to add the second ones in different lines, then go through and change all the references to those old lines to the new line numbers. What 2 tlks are you trying to merge?

I assume one of the mods is the lich content. I should have mentioned that it doesn't use a reserved line so it could cause conflict with other stuff.

Also with Tlkedit if you paste in lines it doesn't over right, instead it shifts everything down.
For example if you paste in 10 lines @ 200 the entry on number 250 will now be at 260 and will break everything. You will need to delete the lines that were original 200-209 now 210-219 and everything will return to its correct position and work.

Yea, one of the mods is your lich mod. I will try to see if it is shifting the lines like you said. Thanks to both of you and thanks again Shaughn for helping me with this.

Thanks kevL I will try that. It looks kind of like Tlkedits diff feature, which I couldn't get working, but made for any kind of files?

Edit:

Cool program but when I try to save the merged file it doesn't save right. The file looks right in the program lots of yellow space but the actual file that is saved is much smaller and missing lots of data.

Personally I just use Axe Murderer's Killer TLK Editor for all my TLK stuff. If you're merging by hand, I think it has copy functions and stuff. You can also merge TLKs using my automatic installer but that's a project which never really got off the ground so I wouldn't recommend it.

Sry. I just saw "merge" and had been using it w/ great effect on textfiles and directory comparisons ... I guess it's all the binary stuff at the top of Dialog.Tlk that needs better interpretation ;\\

Personally I've been merging .Tlk by hand w/ TlkEdit2 - not sure why i haven't grabbed Axe Murderer's yet, as noted by TFred; it seems WinMerge could still help point out text differences in the bottom part of .Tlk (and when merging a new Kaedrin's PrC pack it shortens a week long process to an afternoon ..). anyway, good endeavors

edit, not sure what if any differences there are between editors for NwN 1 & 2 .Tlk's ...

Axe Murderer's was for NWN1, I think, and it's what I used back then, but it works fine on NWN2 TLKs. AFAIK there's no difference in the format (BG TLKs though *are* different).

Hi

I need some help, I'd like to merge the Dialog.tlk files from Kaedin's 1.42.1 pack and the tome of battle pack. Unfortunately, the only existing version of such a merger was for a older version of Kaedin's pack, 1.40.1 or something like that. If I could I would do it, but I don't know where to begin, so if someone could kindly help me out with this dream merger I'd like to play NWN2 the way I dreamed of playing it.

there's no easy way, no point&click that I know of.

It involves looking at the two modified .Tlks, and making a judgment as to which would be easier to copy into the other.

Then make the copy using something like TlkEdit2 while making sure that line numbers don't go screwy.

( for this to be worthwhile the rest of the content must already be merged in a compatible fashion )

sry. that's how i see it,
