George Clinton:

P-Funk! Sadly underrated considering some of the places you can see his influence (Red Hot Chili Peppers, anyone?).
Larry Graham:

Pretty much the inventor of slap bass as it is today (I say "pretty much", it's hard to make sweeping statements like that having been born more than 30 years after that fact), and since I'm a bass player (kind of) and the rest of this list will probably be bass players too, he's definitely one of my favourite musicians ever.
Bootsy Collins:

One of the funkiest men alive. Another p-funk guy, and the kind of character you don't see often. (He's in the George Clinton video above. He's the one in the banana-yellow suit and top hat with the bass shaped like a star, in case you missed him
)
Les Claypool:

An amazing and unique style of playing, technically amazing and a sound that's always fascinating.
Victor Wooten:

A technical monster, more than anyone else watching Victor play leaves me completely slack-jawed, possibly even dribbling. He can also lay down a mean groove.
Dean Martin:

I just love his voice, I could (and I guess have) listen to him for hours. (What do you know? They weren't all bass players.. Also can't be bothered looking for videos any more, just take my word for it)
Sex Pistols:

Even though they were before my time they had a massive effect on me growing up, moreso than any other band, including anyone on this list.
