You mean besides taking the Arcane Warrior spec, wearing heavy armor, and running things like shimmering shield and rock armor all the time?
Use spells that draw a lot of threat. Fireball, Blood Wound, and Virulent Walking Bomb are all good for this purpose. Here's one of the best Arcane Warrior guides available for all your AW-related inquiries:

Shimmering shield and a massive armour set takes care of the defense, and any dot aoe spell takes care of holding threat. Looking at inferno, tempest, blizzard.
