The point would be that they have no evolutionary or developmental reason to have their 'experience of pleasure' directly linked with their birth canal
Not necessarily.
We know absolutely nothing of the evolutionary history of the Asari. For all we know the primitive ancestors of the Asari could have reproduced sexually, with the Asari having both male & female ancestors. If the Asari or their evolutionary ancestors reproduced sexually at some point in the past, it is possible that the Asari might have some vestigial sexual organs for exactly that purpose.
Or, direct physical stimulation may also play some role when Asari mate with each other.
Of course either way that would be awfully convenient for Shepard that their sexual organs would be similar to a human female's and in the same place, but that is really one of those things that the player shouldn't spend too much time dwelling on. The Asari, and other alien love interests like Tali, are just there to allow the player to roleplay a Captain Kirk type character and have a relationship with a character that isn't human.

I have posted this before, but there is a real life species of lizards which are all female.
Lesbian Lizards
A species of lizards which evolved to the point where the male chromosome ran out. Only females remained and those females evolved so they could reproduce without males. Reproduction was a mental process although they still craved the physical contact out of instinct in remembrance of the times when their males for them to mate with.
Essentially men are overrated and women can exist without us.
Asari might have a feminine appearance because they once had a male counterpart. Although it doesn't explain why an aquatic species has breasts... point is sometimes species evolve to the point where the females no longer need the males.
Mind melding can be excused as a method for them to retain genetic diversity even though they lack male counterparts.
It's science fiction. At least they offered an explanation. It's better than what they did with Shepard's resurrection. Shepard died and... was brought back through some type of medical procedure that we know little to nothing about? No answer? Really? At least the asari have an explanation which is fine. It doesn't need to make sense because at least they remain consistent by having an explanation for things that seem strange to us. That's how sci-fi works. They invent a fake science to explain the rest of the fake science.
It's kind of plausible.

Like most Sci-Fi franchises, ME relies on a mix of "hard" and "soft" Sci-Fi. Most of the weapons and spaceship
technology is based on hard science, for example. But many other things, such as bringing the dead back to life and the Asari, are based on much softer science. Think about it - what are the odds of an alien race evolving completely independently of humans who just happen to look like attractive human females, except with blue skin and bizarre hair? In fact, one could argue the mere existence of alien races and FTL travel is an example of "soft" Sci-Fi, as it's looking less and less likely either of those will come to be, at least within a fathomable amount of time.
The Asari reproduce because Bioware made them that way and if they didn't then they wouldn't exist. There, end of story.
