he said "early" not "earlier" ;) ... beside, I'd assume until they are ready to talk about the "other methods" of acquiring that early access we will not know for sure. Even if, then I doubt it will be significant.

If the Demo is available sometimes in January (at worst 31st) that will still leave you with over a month of trying the MP part of the Demo out :). Which should be fine in regards to seeing how it plays. Also I'd assume that Bioware might want some feedback on balancing of classes and levels, server stress tests, free word of mouth adverts from the "demo players" etc. so I'd say that Bioware want to get as many into MP as possible ... which is just possible with a wider range of options.
So getting people interested in competitive MP (Specifically BF3 as there you'd get the best out of the game by actually playing as a squad on not as single players) they should get good feedback on how the MP part of ME3 is .... which just can be good for them Bioware :).

Jesus Christ.

I did not call his opinion childish.

I said way how he expressed it is childish.

2 whole different things.

Forgot about blockbuster leaving the passes in...guess I'll scrap the couches for the $2 for a one day rental just to ensure getting the demo as early as possible. Though I suspect getting it won't really be an issue.

Oh, I'm well-aware. And I have my own deeply-held opinions on the matter. I just don't really discuss them much -- and I certainly wouldn't stick around here if I felt as highly offended by it as you do. My original point was that you're, by your own admission, 'one step from not buying anything from BioWare' or whatever it was. If you're living that close to the edge then you're very dissatisfied. It stands to reason that you should stand by your conviction and step away entirely. For your own good.

Myself, I'll say this and only this regarding Origin -- I'm not thrilled. Not at all. But as a console gamer and one who is very, very satisfied with what he's seen otherwise from the company and from ME3, I'll gladly give them my $80 for the 360 edition.

I've said this before. Mass Effect is one of my favorite series, I'd gladly give them my money, but one sentence can ruin it. I'm not disatisfied with the game, but the "service". The reason I say Bioware as a whole is because if one game requires it then they most likely all will after.

Eh, fair enough.

If someone remembers, was it possible to import ME1 saves in ME2 demo?

Nope, not possible

Thx! Well, it better be possible in ME3 demo. Would be very good and smart feature to implement.

How would that work? If the demo is a mission from part way into the game you'd be importing a Shepard that missed the start of ME3, so when ME3 rolls out you'll have to start it fresh with your Shepard anyway. Any choices you made would be enitrely irrelevant, and if you can't make choices in the demo then there's no need to import your own Shepard.

The only way importing your own Shepard into the demo would actually be worth it would be if the demo is the start of ME3, or like a prologue to it. Now that would be very interesting.

Everyone on these forums is probably going to buy ME3 regardless of any demo. The demo probably comes with Battlefield to try and get Battlefield fans (who may not already be Bioware/ME fans) to try out and eventually buy Mass Effect 3.

The single player portion of the demo is available on Day 1, and there will be other ways (the December promotions) to gain access to the multiplayer demo on Day 1. What's the problem?

Demos used to be something that was thrown out there freely as "Hey we want people to try this game so here's a demo"

Now it seems demos are sold previews for the hyped up people who will buy a game anyway (and in this case people who happen to get another hit: BF3). Capcom went as far as to ask money for only the demo

You are still going to play the full demo for free. You will most likely get a hold of the early access pass as well.

I see no reason to be mad. It's not like they owe you something.

Hi Everyone, Evil Chris here.

I am stealing Derek's post to provide more detail on the upcoming Mass Effect 3 single player AND multiplayer demos. Jessica posted this FAQ in the ME3 News forum, but I think it should be here as well.

Mass Effect 3 will have a pre-release demo in January 2012. This demo will have both single player and multiplayer sections, giving fans a taste of what's to come on March 6, 2012. Be first to the front lines in the multiplayer section of the Mass Effect 3 demo! Redemption of the Online Pass for Battlefield 3 will unlock this early access. But
rallying for war is just getting started - in late November / early December, BioWare will announce other ways for fans to engage the enemy with their friends online from day one!

What are the details of the Mass Effect 3 pre-release demo?

•The Mass Effect 3 pre-release demo will launch in January 2012 (exact date TBA).
•The demo will include both single-player and multi-player sections.
•The demo will be released in all regions where the game is

How can I get early access to the multi-player portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo coming in January 2012?

•Owners of Battlefield 3, on any platform, who activate their Online Pass will automatically be granted early  access to the multiplayer portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo. There is no need to enter any other codes, the early access will be applied to the EA Account associated with the Online Pass.
•This applies to all regions where the demo is released (to be announced)
•The exact date of the demo launch will be announced in late November
•There will be another program whereby players and fans of the Mass Effect  franchise can unlock this early access (with no purchase necessary) – this will also be announced in late November or early December.
•There will also be a tool posted on www.masseffect.com allowing players to check if their EA account has been granted the early access.
•The length of the early access period is TBA.
•The single-player section of the demo will be available to all players on day one of the demo launch.

As mentioned, we will have more information and dates in the near future. :)

Question!! Will we be able to play as the new default fem shepard?=]

It's heavily emphasized that the demos will launch simultaneously on ALL PLATFORMS.

January is very late for a multiplayer demo. They need time to fix netcode, bug issues, balancing issues, and possibly put in small improvements. They need to do all of that in the span of one month to put it on the disk and two months for a patch.

You're forgetting something, it's a demo, not a beta, it is not intended for testing but for demonstrating the game.

If enough people complain about something like health amount for enemies, they'll change it.  I would bet money on it.

It's their first MP for a long time, and a first in the format they're doing it. The demo will be a testing ground no matter how you look at it. And that's good, because since ME3 is pretty much the only shot they'll have at this thing, they'll need to make it perfect

Will there be unlockable items for completing the demo like in Dragon Age 2?  Already have ME3 on pre order but I am curious.

Huzzah! Unexpected and welcome. May have to pick up BF3 earlier than expected, although it's good to hear there are other options as well.

I may regret asking this but... Why is Origin any worse than Steam (etc)?

Don't know if its still the case, but apparently the terms of service you have to agree to technically allow EA to look around files on your computer. I doubt that they'd ever bother (its probably some legal thing they need in case they suspect you of piracy) and I very much doubt its the only large commercial program that has this, but thats why people hate Origin. If it is true then it is a breach of privacy.

Edit: Actually, aparently in August this year they removed most of the stuff people were getting worked up about from the ToS.
