Huzzah! Unexpected and welcome. May have to pick up BF3 earlier than expected, although it's good to hear there are other options as well.

I may regret asking this but... Why is Origin any worse than Steam (etc)?

People just like to hate on EA, they ignore the fact that once you install ME2 and DA:O you're also installing a spyware. "Nah, that's 100% fine! but hey! EA launched their own distribution system, let's take what's written on the ToS, forget it's written on all of the games we love and blame that on how evil, cruel and greedy EA are!"

If you don't want to buy BF3, you can always wait until January.

Mostly because Origin goes one step further in being spyware than before. From all the reports up to now, It not only scans what hardware you use and gameplay, but every piece of software on the PC and sends that information back to EA encrypted (thus how hard it is to be 100% sure).

Any documents and what other companies software you are using could be reported (per the EULA).
Example: if you do your taxes on the same machine, EA might end up with your tax forms and it's perfectly legal for them to sell that information to whoever they want without you knowing it. (again per EULA)

Unfortunately neither Bio or EA have been forthcoming as to what is gathered, thus the *hate on*.

They removed that part fro the EULA, as I've read.

And do you really think EA will do something like that? sure, they're "Greedy" but they're ain't trying to destroy lives.

Question: is the SP demo simply going to be content taken from the final product or something standalone? If simply taken from final product, why would I care to play the demo? I'm already getting ME3 regardless.

The ME3 Demo should go to those who Pre-ordered the Old Republic, not Battlefield 3...

Who knows about the MP part, but SP demos are usually a single mission (or part of one) from the full game. It can be helpful for people who are less committed than yourself. I'm not Bioware obviously but I'm pretty certain about that. My guess is a section of a hub world to run around in and a single combat quest within that hub.

...And because it will allow you to play a bit of ME3 two months before release.

Thanks Homey! I'd be curious if you could pick your character (engineer, adept, etc) or whether it will just be set to soldier since it seems to spawn from BF3, whcih caters to the soldier-type crowd. We shall see, I suppose. I actually played DA2's demo (b/c I was on the fence) and really enjoyed it. I would have gotten it if the forums didn't crucify the game after it came out.

I think more people will be buying BF3, though.

Big question I'm not sure I saw anyone ask yet:

Is pre release demo in January the public demo, or the early access? If it's public, then when will the early access demo be online?

-Polite

edit: never mind. I see it's being announced late November.

SP+MP demo in January 2012
BUT you can get access to the MP part EARLY via different promotions.

It's in the OP btw.

Yeah I sort of got that part, but didn't know if they were referring to the public or early access. Hopefully the early access is in December. That'd be nice.

Oh. Well, in that case if it's just MP I'm not that bothered about rushing to get BF3.

Happy to clear this up:

The demo is one big download, with two sections playable in it.

- Single player section, which is active immediately
- multiplayer section, which is inaccessible (thing of a menu item greyed out) unless your EA account has the early access flag. If you do, it will be selectable/playable. We havent announced the length of the early access period.

So...lemme get this straight:
  • Demo download which contains both the single player and MP will be availble to all in January
  • Single player will be playable to all who download the Demo in January from the get go, MP greyed out unless you get early access with your EA/Origin account
  • Early Access to MP will be preorder BF3 or other soon to be announced means
  • MP on the demo will be playable to all on Game release in March

Could you confirm? :)

Nice, so the single player will be available to everyone at the same time. Hopefully Vanguards will be playable :D

I'm unsure what the complaints are about, if you don't like it want it don't buy it. You can wait like the rest of the world. Almost every game is doing something like this a Beta or a Demo. It's nothing new. Uncharted is doing something with StarHawk like Battlefield doing with Mass Effect. Previously Medal Of Honor had The Battlefield 3 Beta, Socom had Resistnce beta. It's nothing new, than eventually it comes to the Public later. I hope though The Demo/Beta for Mass Effect is long lasting till Mass Effect 3.

Late back in I know.

It's not so much the demo being offered to Battlefield players, I understand cross marketing.

However I just feel that it should not have been the first method announced to get the demo.

I have Mass Effect 1 and 2 registered for both the 360 and PC (first on the old site of course).

Perhaps it is a sense of entitlement, I'm like that, but I think it would have been a nice gesture that the demo first go to those who have bought and registered the first two games in the series.

Will there be character import? Character creation (I assume for the multiplayer there would have to be)?

It's too a Demo or Beta it's not the real complete version sooo dont get too worried. It like some never seen a Demo, Beta before. I'm sure you can creat character in SP like with ME2 Demo. The CoOp Demo I'm unsure maybe as well. It's not the real complete version.

Okay, I know my EA account covers all the platforms I play on that use the same email. I redeemed my Blood Dragon Armor code for the PS3 version of DA:O and discovered it was unlocked for me in ME2 on 360 when I started playing it one day. So, I'll be redeeming the online pass for the PS3 version of BF3, but I want to play the ME3 MP demo early on the 360. Will I be covered on all platforms for the early access?
