Happy to clear this up:

The demo is one big download, with two sections playable in it.

- Single player section, which is active immediately
- multiplayer section, which is inaccessible (thing of a menu item greyed out) unless your EA account has the early access flag. If you do, it will be selectable/playable. We havent announced the length of the early access period.

Right, so how do us PC players go about downloading this?

I'd imagine that since ME3's digital version is dled through Origin that the demo will be as well. logical/makes sense.

Lol. You know ThePLC, if you can just grow past your bias and ignorance, Battlefield 3 is a very intelligent, tactical game and ME3 would do well to learn from a lot of things that BF3 is doing.

Let's hope ME3 DOESN'T take any lessons from BF3.

The Battlefield 3 Beta was indeed an old alpha build.. they released a little update/patch to make it playable halfway through. It was also only playable in 'Easy mode' so on top of old netcode you had to shoot allot more to get a kill.

It still wasn't named Demo and that is what they are calling this Mass Effect 3 MP early acces.

I had BF3 pre-ordered allready for PC, but its cross platform so ill be playing it on my Xbox!

Really? Think about it.

like I said, it will probably (like 90% chance) be dled through origin since the ME3 digital version will be done that way as well. and with the addition of coop it will also probably require origin to play since BF3 (which has coop and mp) requires origin to play.

Forgive me if the question has been asked but a post elsewhere has sparked this in my mind.

What will happen to the co-op feature when two or three years down the line EA turn off the servers? They do this with all their other franchises so there is no reason to believe that Mass Effect 3 will be any different.

Are we going to end up with a portion of the game which is essentially unplayable?

I still regularly play the first Mass Effect, so it is very likely I would still want to play Mass Effect 3 four years later.

It can be played alone, but if we want to keep playing with other people after the servers shutdown, probably we'll have to use non-official servers.

Playing alone though kind of defeats the purpose of having a co-op option there in the first.

Non-official servers would be an option for people like me who intend to buy the game on the PC but what about those on the 360 or PS3?

Edit: Sorry about the Ninja edit. I just felt mentioning that I'm still playing the first game four years later was an important point to make. I hope after all that I'll still be playing Mass Effect 3 in 2016.

They've announced early access for BF3 owners only at this point. Other methods will be revealed later.

Just in case you haven't read it by now elsewhere:

Bioware will be releasing a demo for XB360/PS3/PC in Jan 2012, it will have 2 parts, a single-player part and a multiplayer part. The singleplayer will be immediately available to everyone. The access to the multiplayer will be greyed out unless you have been flagged for early access.

You can get early access via Battlefield 3 (released this week) which will have an online pass included. There will be other ways to get early access, which won't involve purchasing anything, to be outlined in Nov/Dec 2011. The length of the early access period hasn't been said, however after the period is over, everyone will have access to the multiplayer part of the demo.
