I think I solved the whole timeline issue.

Ever since DAII came out people have been wondering why Anders is in Kirkwall when it sounded like the game forgot about Amaranthine's place in the timeline.

Well, one thing to remember is that the whole 1 yr later thing between the prologue and Act I counts from Hawke's arrival in Kirkwall, not the time when the Warden was recruited and the war began.

The destruction of Lothering takes place once the Warden visits one of the five main questline areas. The time it took for the Warden and Duncan to travel to Ostagar, the time it took for the Warden and Alistair to recover at Flemeth's house, and the time it took to walk to Lothering and to the first quest point is never specifically calclulated and could amount to weeks or even months in itself.

And let's not forget that the trip from Gwaren to Kirkwall wasn't fast either. That took even more time.

And seeing as Amaranthine is only a small area of Ferelden, travel likely takes less time and the events of Awakening could have happened quicker than people think.

So Hawke's arrival in Kirkwall could have been several months after the Blight began or even almost at the full year mark. Making the events of Act I after Awakening and enough time for Anders to immigrate from Amaranthine to Kirkwall(Amaranthine is geographically a lot closer than Gwaren is.)

Basically in the year+ (giving time for Hawke to reach a ship and for the ship to reach Kirkwall) after Lothering was sacked, the Warden killed the Archdemon and the Mother. Works well enough for me. Though, there is Sandal in Witch Hunt. Though since Sandal is ridiculous it wouldn't entirely surprise me if he existed in multiple places at once or had a bunch of twins or could teleport. Bodahn wasn't with him though, in Witch Hunt, so that's something, maybe.

I believe Bodahn is trading in Redcliffe-the templar next to Sandal mentions that if you ask about him.

I'd have to check the dialogue at Flemeth's hut about Lothering, but I think it's about a day, or a few days tops, away.

Awakening seems like it should take at least a few months, considering that you had to have time to rebuild the keep's walls.

That's just where evil!Sandal wanted the templar to think Bodahn was.

The wardens left a week top before the attack, in origen I think it said the darkspawn will arrive to lothering in less than a week. Thats why they ( the warden's) had to leave fast. I think Amaranthi lasted like 6 months or a bit more.

Sandal's alright. He and Bodhan don't show up until three years into Hawke's nobility, which is three years between the Deep Roads and his hiring to the Hawke estate during which he could have gone to the Circle.

Of course, that puts Witch Hunt definitively during the Act 1->Act 2 coma, which means that Wardens who went through the mirror and made Alistair king have serious continuity issues. So it still doesn't really help.

Here's one thing I don't get about the timeline, how (or more importantly why) are the Dalish in Kirkwall if, in the event of a Dalish Warden, Marethari is clearly still in Fereldan after the defeat of the Arch Demon. That makes no sense. Why would a Keeper, a wise old Keeper, have to flee to Kirkwall if the Blight was already over? That does not make sense.

Correction. Awakening/Amaranthine takes place six months after the Blight ends.

Also let's not forget that Witch Hunt takes place two years after old Archie is slain. So arguably it happens between Act 1 and Act 2 of DAII.

So Sandal's appearance in the tower and Bodahn's time in Redcliffe could be before they became Hawke's servants. Or they had business to wrap up before they could dedicate themselves.(like selling off the rest of their inventory.)

Also Dwarves are notoriously good builders. They probably work very fast.

Since Bodahn and Sandal are merchants, it makes sense for them to travel around. Plus, Bodahn only became Hawke's manservant a little bit prior to where Act II began I think.

So if the OP is right, it goes like this:

1) 3-4 months into DAO from the origin story -- Lothering is sacked.
2) Hawke flees Lothering with family
3) Flemeth rescues them and takes them to Gwaren. How is never specified, and I would think flying on the back of a dragon to Gwaren would be mentioned by Varric. (No no Seeker not to Kirkwall! Just... to Gwaren). So let's assume she just guided them there safely and in her witch form, and Hawke and company kept asking why they couldn't ride her, to which she said "If you want to ride me, it'll be my sort of ride". Wait where was I? Oh yea, how about 2 more months.

So we're 5-6 months into DAO's story.

6) Gwaren to Kirkwall -- 2 weeks as Cassandra said.
7) Employed by Athenril for a year.
8) During that time, the Blight is ended. Fernando Melo said sometime ago that Awakening takes place several months after DAO's end. That could mean at least 4 months after DAO's end.

So, 16 months into the timeline. Hawke has around a month with Athenril if we're talking the least amount that I've given.

9) Awakening would take perhaps 1.5 months at least
10) Anders is gone.

Yea I think it all works out for the most part if I did my math right since I was editing it here and there (especially if one takes into account time between quests for DAII. What is immediate for us may not necessarily be immediate for the game's characters)

Yep, they never say how long Anders stays after the Mother is killed.

And Anders' ending in Awakening could be indication of what happens to him after DAII ends. It says he disappears and later returns and stays. So if he doesn't get romanced by Hawke and survives after the blowing up of the chantry, thats likely where he goes. Back to the Wardens.

It depends on the game, at the end of my DAA it said Anders took a ship:

"Anders will remain with the Grey Wardens to train the Order's next generation of mages. When he is called by the Circle of Magi to deliver a lecture on the nature of the Architect - much to the templars' dismay - he tells the Commander of the Grey that his time with the Wardens is over. No longer a part of the Wardens, the Chantry brands him an apostate, but never captures him. He is last seen on a pirate ship with a familiar woman."

So at the end of DA2 they see him leaving with Hawke on isabela's boat. Thats what am gonna do with Mage hawke! lol!B)

I wouldn't get too hung up on timelines because, apart from the stated periods before Act 1, after Act 2, etc, there is really no indication of how long events are really taking. Now in the journal you pick up at the end of MoA it states that a year has passed since Tallis left you. This would make sense if it had occurred sometime in the 3 years gap period between Act 2 and 3 but all the references in the DLC indicate that it has happened after Act 3 has started, in fact after On the Loose. So you then must assume that the events that happen during the remainder of Act 3 actually takes months rather than just days or weeks. So in Act 1 where you meet Anders, whilst game play wise it can occur also immediately after you leave Athenril's service, it may actually be several months later, and if you assume this, it ties in a lot better with the events in Awakening.
