Any class can carry any weapon. The mods available to each weapon type are where they really become differentiated. The SMG is really important now for classes that rely heavily on power gameplay or where heat sink capacity becomes a problem. In fact two mods are available now for SMGs that increase their ability to fire longer and run out of heat sinks less. Every class can carry 5 weapons, BUT there is a really big penalty to doing so if you are playing anything but a Soldier. Generally in my Adept runs I like to take a Tempest and a Carnifex. I leave the bigger guns to Garrus, James and Ashley. In fact I have done entire Adept runs with just a Predator. The balance around the number, type and specific weapons you take is really feeling nice and adding a lot of interesting choice to weapon selection. More to come later. Jarrett had me do an entire BioWare TV episode just on RPG mechanics, which is coming out soon.
This is wonderful news! But the cost for the other classes...better be worth it. I mean damn worth it. I can see a whole bunch of Infil and Vanguards just loading up on weapons - only to be penalized a -10% running speed. The soldier...hopefully won't be a complete dud because of this.

I don't understand why this matters
I like playing as Adept, sometimes as Infiltrator
If it turns out the game is easier to play as the Soldier, that doesn't mean I now want to play Soldier.. I pick the playstyle I find the most fun

As a Vanguard, this has intrigued me.

I find the Soldier more OP in ME1 than ME2. Immunity spam and the only thing that's killing you is a glitch.

This whole paragraph is heaven. I have wanted every class to be able to mix and match weapons since ME1.

Nah, its gonna be like me2 where the soldier can hold 5. Or so I heard BW saying. They just put 3 there for the sake of the demo.
Also heard a rumor that it was considered to be increased to 6, but i highly doubt it. 6 just seems too excessive.
Excessive? Nonsense!! I am Shepard the walking armory!!! Fear my many guns! lol

Yeah, I saw this while playing the Sur'Kesh demo @ NYCC last week. I believe there was also a mod like that for the Assault Rifle (the "run out of heat sinks less" one)
What did the mod exactly do? Increase total ammo pool for that weapon or what?
Yeah that's what it did actually.

I just hope they move pistols to the right hip and leave smg's on the left. Always annoyed me that I couldn't see all my guns in ME2

Interesting, if the Locust remains the same then using SMG's as my soldier's sidearm seems much more tempting. Or maybe I should just keep the Carnifex and buff it's damage as much as possible. Decisions, decisions!
Hope the Vindicator can also get an max ammo upgrade too.

N.I.C.E.
Does this mean that you can take fewer weapons than your limit allows, and will we incur bonuses for limiting our weapon loadout?

It matters to me because no class should have an over-all advantage. This was achieved in the first game because the Soldier's ability to use all weapons was counter by the effectiveness of biotics.
Mass Effect 2 however shifted to balance to the Soldier because the Soldier has a weapon and 'power' to counter every situation, whereas biotics have little to no effect on enemies with protection.
The Soldier in Mass Effect 2 could deal with any situation and was the only class where it felt you were always pressing forward instead of playing hide behind the chest high wall and throw a power every few seconds.
Hopefully I have made some sense but given the amount of booze I've drunk I'm not sure. I shall return once the hangover has worn off to answer any more stuff.

6 guns ... 7 guns ... more guns than armour... guns become armour... shepard is too encumbered to unholster any gun... resorts to slowly hitting opponents... armour becomes weapon...

Not sure what that has to do with my post...
But yeah, I also look foward to melee abilities, might wind up upgrading it via the fortitude tree. No point in omni-bladiing mooks if they don't die in one hit.

Actually... I can, given the way gamers and the gaming industry are lately. It just seems like another case of classes being watered down and becoming less unique and defined and more samey by allowing players too much freedom where there should be restriction and visa versa.
