I like all companions - Isabella a little less (in most games, I give her to the Arishok), but my favorites are Anders and Varric.

But I love Merrill, Aveline and Carver too.

I guess Varric. He's the only character I can never do Rivalry with. Being anything but friends with him just seems weird for any version of Hawke to me.

Being sane is not a valued trait among the Dragon Age fanbase. You have to be either dysfunctional, sarcastic, or both to be a good character.

Followed by my bro for life, Varric
And after that... Anders/Fenris (both in team make for the best conversations and rivalry ever)
Aveline (she is very protective of Hawke and Kirkwall, I can respect that)
Isabela (her ****tiness can get a bit boring after a while)
Then Bethany and Carver (you just get too little time to really get to know them + having no spec doesn't really make it useful to have them (especially not on Nightmare)
Then Sebastian (bloody hypocrite chantry priest suck up)

Same for me...Varric comes close, as does Aveline, but the rest just annoyed me. Disliked Merril, hated Anders, was all too happy when Sebastion left...and I can barely remember the rest.
