Haha yeah, there's almost a sort of sadness, a lost innocence in her expression- which fits well with her storyline. She still looks sort of fragile and still essentially merrill, but there's almost a deeper sort of level where she actually looks like the choices she's made and its consequences (e.g. her leaving the clan etc.) are weighing on her. Or maybe I'm just reading waaay too much into it haha.
To me, in the vanilla version she sort of just looks naive/gullible/and generally not very responsible/affected by the decisions she's making. I mean sure, she
is pretty gullible but it doesn't mean that she has to be completely clueless about everything. :/
Anyway, back on topic, your isabela vid was great! Especially given how you didn't have access to her in act 3. It gave a nice depiction of isabela, and a slightly different aspect to the one I'm used to which is always interesting. I
really liked the beginning part - the bit with the 'have you ever been on the open ocean, it's the best feeling in the world' combined with the boat scene and the music... that was inspired. That and the bar fight scene towards the end.
However, it may be just me but the focus on her role with the qunari/deciding to fight with hawke for 'some principle' seemed almost a little out of place.. because your vid seems to show her as the carefree slightly unscrupulous individual in all her unaffected glory- and the progression to that stage where she would want to stay and fight alongside hawke isn't really shown (probably due to your missing third act).
But I suppose that progression was sorta what I had in mind - with isabela romanced there's this really nice gradual change in her throughout the course of the game (when she's in a friendship romance anyway, not so sure about the rival-mance). So in the beginning you get the Isabela who solely cares about herself and her ship, and along the way you get to see the deeper sorta person below that somewhat shallower fascade she maintains - until she finally opens herself up at the end. It's one of the nicer, slower, less contrived romances - plus the banter (especially with sarcastic hawke) is hilarious.
In terms of progression;
Firstly there's the quotes about how amazing boats are; (the one in your opening scene, in the fade (
I like big boats, I cannot lie) (which is hilarious), and her personal outlook on life/love etc.
Then there's several deep and meaningful discussions during this kind of.. denial stage, which add a little bit of melodrama (after leandra; 'family's not just the people you're related to by blood. There are other people that care about you. Like...Aveline.'); and eventually leading to her coming back to face the arishok
Then eventually, (usually act 3) after she actually gets a boat, 'It's funny. Now that I think about it, getting a ship doesn't seem that important. Everything I care about is here. You're here.'
And in the end before the final fight, 'It figures doesn't it? I finally find someone I want to be with and suddenly everything is exploding'
Taken all together, especially if you add the whole 'romantic' duelling the arishok for isabela, the focus of whole DA2 story can be seen almost as the slow romantic arc and the events that conspire to pull them apart. Also, there's great potential for the witty banter (e.g. that scene with anders 'healing' her and hawke going.. 'I don't want to know')
So that's sort of what I had in mind should you decide fix Isabela's disappearance/play another playthrough - although yours is already more than sufficient

Thinking about it now, maybe the difference is solely due to the difference between her as a friend and her as the love interest. In which case, your tribute is already the perfect tribute to isabela as you know her
Haha anyhow, you probably didn't need that massive spiel, but i'm majorly sleep deprived and my ability to be succinct (weak at best) becomes even worse. Anyway, looking forward to whatever else you come up with!
