Dragon Age II: Blood Memory
Hawke is contacted by a concerned mage in the Gallows that is concerned about one of the new mages. This mage (Let's call her Evelyn), is believed to be corrupting apprentices by the concerned mage. Unfortunately, the mage has been unable to find any evidence and Evelyn is very good at hiding her activities. The mage contacted Hawke in the hopes of finding someone that can look into the situation besides the Templars so that no innocents will be made tranquil.
As Hawke explores the Gallows and discovers what he/she can about this mage, he/she discovers that a gathering is planned in the bowels of Gallows in secret Tervinter chambers. Descending to the depths, Hawke finds a number of mages listening to Evelyn try to convince them to use blood magic and demons to fight the Templars. Shockingly, Evelyn recognizes Hawke and becomes enraged, banishing him/her and his/her companions to the Fade.
In the case of Warrior/Rogue Hawke:
Hawke relives the memory of Ostagar and his/her part in this manner (Thus avoiding the necesity of removing Hawke's level and gear, given the relative nature of the Fade). Hawke was sent (Along with Carver and another soldier) to explore a strange some darkspawn scouts appear to be making their base in. Sent along with them, was a yong mage from the Ferelden Circle of Magi named Evelyn *gasp*. Within the ruin, the darkspawn were found to be interfering with an old Tervinter chamber used for blood ritual. Their interference leads to a sundering of the already weak veil, and Evelyn get's caught up in it, becoming an abomination. However, the spirit of rage was weakened by the effort and she was able to retain her form and mind (In part, the demon did not have full control though).
Just then, a group of Templars arrive at the ruins, asserting that they should have been informed of a mage going into the wilds unattended (Non Templars don't count). Evelyn flees and Hawke is called back towards the battle. Hawke fights back towards the fortress and arrives back at Ostagar in time to take part in some of the fighting and witness Loghain's betrayal. As they begin to flee, Evelyn appears and asks Hawke to help her escape the Templars. Hawke then has the option of either betraying her to the Templars or helping her escape. Should Hawke betray her, she shows her nature (Think the way Ander's does it but red with more fire) is able to kill some of the Templars and escape. Should Hawke try and help her escape, it will be discovered that Carver had told the Templars about the meeting, though Evelyn assumes it was Hawke.
In the case of Mage Hawke:
Hawke relives the events as the army retreated north and the darkspawn began to encroach. Along with Bethany, Hawke heads south trying to get news of Ostagar. What they find is a mage under assault from darkspawn. Recognizing that they must be apostates as well, Evelyn asks for their help escaping Templars that followed her from Ostagar. Whether or not Hawke agrees, Bethany will volunteer to take Evelyn to the northern edge of Lothering. If Hawke did not choose to help Evelyn, she will encounter the Templars looking for her, who reveal that she is an abomination (They are willing to overlook Hawke for the time being, an abomination takes precident over an apostate) and meet up with Carver on the way to get to Bethany regardless of whether or not they choose to lead the Templars to Evelyn. If Hawke chose to help Evelyn, Hawke will seperate from her and Bethany and encounter Carver as he returns from Ostagar, also possibly including a visit to Leandra in the Hawke family home, who in turn reveals Evelyn's status as an abomination.
Then Hawke would encounter Evelyn and the Templars (Who have tracked her) with Bethany and Carver just north of Lothering. In the ensuing battle, Evelyn shows her nature and barely escapes through killing most of the Templars.
All:
After the final memory, the rage demon confronts Hawke in the Fade, revealing that it has been hatred of Hawke that has driven Evelyn and fed the demon, Evelyn had forced Hawke to experience those memories to remind him/her of that. If Hawke did not actually betray Evelyn, the demon will act surprised and disbelieving. Evelyn seizes control and questions Hawke. If Hawke betrayed her, Evelyn will attack Hawke herself. If Hawke did not actually betray her, the rage demon will seize control and send a surge of spirits at Hawke. After defeating either, Hawke will be removed from the Fade. The Rage demon will be in control of Evelyn and retreat further into the catacombs of the Gallows. Pursuing her further, Hawke eventually confronts the rage demon, who reveals the purpose of being in the Gallows. The Resolutionists (Or other blood magic using mage group) wanted it to use an ancient Tervinter experiment (My idea is blood magic controlled Golems) to spark the revolution of Mages in Kirkwall. Evelyn/Rage will attempt to use it to destroy Hawke, sacrificing her mage followers in the process.
Hawke will have to both attack Evelyn in the real world and the demon in the Fade. At the end of the fight, Evelyn will either apologize to Hawke (If Hawke did not really betray her) or simply give up her anger as she dies and the demon leaves. After her death, Hawke will have the choice to reveal the existance of the Tervinter catacombs to the Templars or leave it in the hands of the concerned mage, who claims he intends to brick it all up.
Features:
*A chance to interact with the sibling that died in the prologue
*A chance for Hawke to save the companions from their own Fade dreams
*A chance to see sane mages in the Gallows (Besides Evelyn! of course)
Note: This is just a vague sketch really, plenty of side quests can be worked into this.
What do you think? What would you like to see?
