Who else hopes that (god willing) when we go to save Palaven in ME3, there's a side mission that involves helping Garrus get his sister and parents safely off-planet?

Lets up the ante a bit: Moral choice to help Garrus, or get as many off the planet as possible.

Garrus is already a tragedy magnet. I think we should get to meet his sister and she survives no matter what, just to give the poor bastard a break.

This.

Garrus is already halfway an emotional train wreck, if his family died, he would be more angsty then Isabel or whoever that pasty chick on Twilight is.

True enough.

Seems like anytime Bioware says: "We need to screw somebody over.... reaaallly hurt them, you know? I'm talking fudge them up royally - baseball bat to the face, knees and groin..... So... who should we use for this dramatic, tragic moment in the game?"

*momentary pause around committee table*

"Garrus?"

*vigorous head nods and mumbles of approval around the table*

:innocent:

I'd prefer it if saving the Vakarian family didn't have an impact on the overall ending to Palaven.

This. Just... this.

Let them be commoners who aren't involved in the politics of the Hierarchy. There is nothing I would hate more than Garrus turning out to be another "child of a super-important political alien person".

I support lower-middle class Vakarian family trying to get by in society. Even little miss Tali is a Quarian princess.

Face it, Garrus is a total badass, but he is a poor Turian and his rebillious and undisciplined actions wouldn't get him far on Palaven. It wouldn't make sense for him to be some the son of some sort of Monarch.

It would explain his rebellious streak.

I'd prefer it if Garrus makes Shepard promise him to save his sister no matter what before the mission, and during it Shep is forced to choose between the lives of said sister and Garrus.

I will be disappoint if Solona Vakarian looks like the female turian depiction in those atrocious Dark Horse comics.

Asari are, quote, supposed to look like 'blue turians', so female turians should look like plated Asari with face paint, right?

Why?  Because you want to see me b*tch and moan about being forced into killing my space husbando?

That's your sole purpose in life, isn't it?  ISN'T IT, KAISER?!

As long as Garrus doesn't whine about it when I choose to save him.

Part of my purpose, yeah.

But I just want a Femtur on my squad and this seems like a good enough way to finally get one: at the cost of your previous turian.

Also, you wouldn't be forced to let your virtual reptilian husband die in any way, as you could choose to do so or not.

Of course he'll complain if you save him over his beloved sister; why else make your CO promise you that?

But I want Garrus to be both alive and happy.  With his family.

HAPPY ENDINGS, YOU HEAR ME?

Torture some other squadmate who hasn't had a sh*t life already.

Kaidan and Ashley were pretty drama-free...

But they're cool, too, and I shall not inflict horrors upon them.

Other than Mandatory Phoenix Armor Mondays, but I do that to everyone.

Kaidan's past was dramatic enough for the others to turn into a wreck, the difference is that he's able to deal with it.

Also, Garrus' life hasn't been that bad at all.

Ash has the entire family "curse", Virmire, E.Prime; Kaidan has his entire biotic training and a few other things, like his son becoming a Sith. >_>

The person with the fewest issues is probably Kasumi, and you will not harm her. :bandit:

Recently it has.  He only just lost ten of his closest friends, and the eleventh may be dead or alive depending on your actions.  And then there's the backroom drama, the stuff he hides--his family is poor, he's a disappointment to his father, he's not good enough to meet his own enormous expectations, he has to lie to his own sister to cover up who he's become, and his mom is in constant pain from her disease.  He tries to make things better, to do good, to fight the people no one else has the courage or strength to fight, and either he screws it up or the people that are supposed to help him screw him over.

If you have too many people you care about die in your life, you stop caring at all.  It's a horrible feeling, a toxic apathy that drains the life out of you.

Garrus is a compelling character because of his passion.  If he loses that, he'll just be some whiny emo wisecracker with no fire, no drive to do good and fight bad guys.  Take away his family--one of the few good, personal things he has left--and what's the point?  He'll stop the Reapers, sure, but when the smoke clears and refugees are reuniting with one another, what's left for him?  What reason is there to stick around, to care?

It's wrong if the only way to keep him alive is to kill his spirit.  Let the poor bastard have something to look forward to when the fighting's over.

I was thinking along the lines of the ME2 suicide mission, where the longer you take to actually go and save the Vakarian family, the less of them there will be alive initially. You do it first thing after getting to Palaven, everyone lives(barring really stupid tactical decisions by you) and its a happy ending. You do it midway, maybe two of them are dead, one for sure. Do it last, Garrus' tragic-o-meter goes all the way to up 12.
