NWN2 does make 6 person parties a little challenging, and walkways are definitely an issue. Some of the tilesets with single-width walkways can take quite some time to negotiate with a party of 6, and god help you if there are archers on the other side!

On the other hand, the 6 character party makes for more interesting roleplay and is great for those of us who like to tinker with lots of different equipment set-ups and character builds. In my mind it's an even trade and I've enjoyed solo mods and mods with 5-character parties.

I soloed SOZ, though, because honestly, if you are a wizard, you don't need anyone else slowing you down! :)

Hey Dorateen, just read your intro and it sounds great. Sorry for taking so long to comment, good luck.

Im with Alupinu on this, im very taken by this. See we are on the same page with the 6 people party system :).

Thank you! 6 person parties do have a special place for me, going back to our old PnP gaming group and some of the earlier cRPGs.

However, I do recognize that some people prefer to run with a small er party of perhaps 4 characters. I am thinking by starting with 2nd level characters, a player could use a smaller party. When I'm ready for playtesting, if anyone is so inclined, that's probably an area where I could use some feedback.

Woot glad to be on the same team :)
But yes ill have to agree, 6 man team has proven to me to become a bit of a prob at times while ive been testing things making sure things work out. I'll have it where all but that one are fighting..even in open areas, which i found very odd.

I have found ways to work around this, and they work well, never have to worry about a closed in area Boss battle of course. At some points in the game, i make so that the player has to have certain PCs in their party, or open room for someone to join. Makes things easier and harder depending on who you chose to use.

I thought I would mix things up a little by starting a run through with a new party. This encounter did not go so well.

Thank goodness for Alupinu. His class is Rogue. If the enemy had been paying attention, they might still be alive...

In the meantime, I started work on a new area called The Fields of Night but I do not have screenshots just yet. That will be in the next update.

Harumph!

Fear not... there is a remedy for that, even for low level characters.

Huzzah! I just reached 1,000 downloads on Edinmoor. And it only took me.... a year and a half to get there!

On this auspicious occasion, I was thinking about players who enjoy more companion inclusive adventures, and wondered, what if they took the companions from one of their favorite modules and exported the character to their local vault? Then they could select these as party members in those campaigns that use the Party Editor menu.

So, to use the Tales from the Lake of Sorrows saga (sorry, PJ) for example, someone could conceivably bring along Ember and Solace, Honour or Harold, into other adventures! Their native modules have already established the personalities of these characters. And something in the style of Edinmoor with party-chat conversations, would still allow Ember to make Rogue-ish remarks, or Solace use her Ranger skills.

Anyway, just a thought for people who prefer joinable NPCs to creating their own party, they could take along the ones they have grown attached to into other adventures, even the Icewind Dale remake!

I should probably get back to the toolset.

Harumph!

Dorateen.. I did it for playtesting my second mod but not with a whole party I just made my PC one of the companions from my other mod. Can't remember how I did it but you need to use a tool from the vault or something like that. But it's a good idea and just given me a plan that could inspire me to play SoZ one day !

If you have a companion selected in a module, you should be able to export them just like you would your PC. Then they appear among the list of characters in your Local Vault. I exported Khelgar from the end of the OC, and took him through MotB.

Thanks, Arkalezth. I know that 1,000 dl aren't really a big deal. But it's a milestone of sorts!

No problem thanks for the mention.

I think this is a realy good idea. I have not played Edinmoor for a while so I might give it a try again.

1000 downloads is a good number. Edinmoor got a poor showing in the votes IMO so the climb to 2500 will be hampered by it not being seen so well. None the less I believe it will get there and deservedly so.

Regards,

PJ

It didn't work I selected the companion and pressed export.. Nothing, not even a exported successfully message then I checked the local vault and nothing there too.

I wonder if companions have a bic file in save game folders...maybe try copying the file to your local vault?

Hmmm... did something change in a later patch? I was going by the experience I had when I exported companions from the Official Campaign.

I should have tested this out with user-made modules before making the suggestions.

About co-op, for both Edinmoor and this one I'm working on, I guess it would handle about as well as co-op did for SoZ. I've never gotten any feedback on this, so it is something I would be interested to hear.

You were right. It was AlanC9's Universal Companion Database, which I had used for the first two NWN2 campaigns. It's a fine utility, and would do what I was originally going on about.

Another method is to copy the .ros files from one module's save folder, and paste them in a new save folder for another module. Here, I took the files from my end save in Last Days of the Raven

Encountering some Rock Gnomes...

"I tell ya, the lasses followed me to Edinmoor!"

uhm, Tsongo? all Dwarfen dates are *striktly arranged*

what we are witnessing, must be some sort of ... Tutorial ritual.

Looking at it again I think they've been tricked into attending a mating ritual ( perhaps dwarves call that a tutorial and Dorateen can enlighten us ) and a dwarf is arriving off camera wearing only a beard and that's why the ladies are reacting like that. The one in the red looks like she's banging a bat on her hand and saying "if you come anywhere near me I'll.. " and the other one has drawn her sword. Meanwhile the dwarf is telling the band to keep their minds on the job whilst beating time with his axe.

Tsongo.

Anyhoo...

I've been continuing to work on the Fields of Night area, which will open with a rare cut-scene. You can tell how long it's been since I created a cut-scene, because I forgot to enable the black cinematic cut-scene bars! I'll have that fixed for the final version.

By the time the party is about halfway through this adventure, their actions will have gained the notice of certain... others.

And these others are not pleased.

I don't think that's a bad thing actually, as long as the background doesn't make the text illegible. Risen Hero didn't use the black bars, at least in some conversations/cutscenes, and it worked well.

Interesting. Because I kind of like how that screenshot looks. But I'm concerned that the text on the bottom isn't too readable. I'm using a static camera, so that will always be the view for this parapgraph. Do you think it is passable?
