I seem to be building the package wrong. The texture works fine in logging but I seem to be doing somthing wrong when it comes to making the .tpf file.

Total tpf size decreased by around 70 megs, however when the files are unpacked they were 1.07gigs in bmp format and now 406mb with the png format. So I'm hoping this will free up resources and allow more people to use the full pack without crashes. Also I hope it improves performance.

I've done some research into bmp vs png and was aware of the "loss-less" compression of png and therefor made the switch in format, bu I have just read that a png uses the same amount of RAM when loaded as a bmp .
Any advice and or knowledge would be appreciated. My goal is to have users with a 32-bit OS be able to run the full pack with no crash.

I am trying to convert my .bmps to .dds but I am getting green square artifacts in dark areas and distortion on straight lines
Have a look at these programs, fly.to/mwgfx/ specifically DTXBmp (under Graphics Tools menu, or go here CFS/FS Graphics Programs), I use it with corel draw an it works pretty good. It may help you resize your files. There is also a who bunch of utilities there that might help as well.
Just a thought.
Also some other thoughts, have you tried changing the DPI and shrinking the texture so that it is small with a higher dpi not sure but it is worth a try.
Also maybe some of the type of the texture don't have to be as large, like the light map ones, or the Black and White ones. I would test and see if that is a good trade off as far as quality.

Maybe you could ask JeanLuc maybe he knows something we don't.
By the way I am not sure if the dpi will help or hurt so you should test it.
This is one of the 2 or 3 mods on the board, thanks for doing all this work. Pretty much going to do a new run partly because of this.
Just so you know I can't get to you new file, get this message.

Don't know if you are aware of that. Maybe that is how that site works and I just have to wait.

Looks like I need to use photo shop for decent dds conversion. I was proud how far Gimp took me but the Nvidia plug-in is for photo shop only so I guess i'll switch over

If you don't want to spend the money DTXBmp and Corel Photo-Paint work pretty well. I checked DTXBmp you can convert to a bunch of DXT types 1,3,5 and a bunch of other ones as well. It also has a preview feature if you want to check them out first. I didn't notice much of a difference between 5 and 3.

And as a bonus, so far this update appears to have fixed the solid black hair and hair/face clipping issue I had been having since the last update.

But now, I can't use your newest pack. I'm running a windows 7 32 bit with 4Gb RAM, and now I can't load my savefiles ith this new pack. Seems I need even more ram than before.

Hi, I was playing me1 this last month with your mod, specifically FULLPACK033112, and I have to say u did an awesome job. Only I have some weird glitches with several turian medium armors, in with ultra-low tex is loaded for his armor, but negligible compared with all the otrer visual improvements.

I'm sorry to hear this. I tested the new pack as bmp files and found the same memory usage as with the new pngs, so I think the difference here is that I increased textures sizes of a few uniforms, saren, and the normady in the update. It must have pushed it passed the memory limit for your setup. I am working on a fix, or possibly I'll make another pack for lower-end and/or windows 32-bit setups.

I tracked the usage to 1.7-2.0 gigs of ram usage which is much lower than the 2.8-3.0 in the original pack. With LAA users of 32-bit windows should be able to use the pack with no crashes.
I will going forward host both the original highest quality pack and the new performance pack at Moddb so hopefully everyone can enjoy the mod

I'll try again with both new packs to check differences when I can download it.CDAMJC wrote...
Ok I've created a performance pack, all of my textures none are larger than 1024x1024 resolution. It loads really fast and the loss in quality from the original pack many may find negligible. I am uploading it to Moddb and it will need to be authoirized which can take 1-2 days, but anyone having crashes with the current pack due to windows 32-bit please try this pack.
And thank you again for all this awesome work!
