Honestly, I think your begin to be better than Smarteck and Jean-Luc. Keep up the good work, man.

hey
i noticed you continue to upload pictures on imageshack.com ....
but i think it's too much advertised and overvalued...
i would recommend you to give a look to imgur.com
direct link is allowed too (because i hate opening the image load a new page and then show image)

Noted, I guess I don't notice the ads because I use adblock in Google chrome browser. Actually I never click on the image, I use ctrl+scroll on the mouse to zoom in on the forum because it hosts the images at full resolution. So for now that's something you can do.

i'm referring to this post for example
if i would need to look at the image at full resolution i have to load 2 pages before the image itself..(imgur/other site allow thumbnail too)
anyway upload wherever you like, your work keeps rock!

Oh, yeah that post was from another user who was helping to show me the different shadow possibilities. I just pasted it in the forum to give credit where it was due :)

Did some work on the armor and small touch ups on the face, still have to do the neck and finish up the armor.

First, let me say I've been using your textures for ages, CDAMJC. I really appreciate all the work you've done and it has really enriched our games. You've got a good eye for improvements and I enjoy your packs most of all, it keeps things simple.

That said, I hope you don't mind some (hopefully constructive) criticism with the above picture. I'm a big fan of Garrus, but not of the light stripes. I really feel he'd be better served, in high resolution, with their absence.

I play on a 2560x1600 display, and perhaps because of the larger display I instantly disliked those light-stripes in ME3 and I find them ugly and distracting here as well. Partly because they're not really (recessed) light sources, they're just light-paint and it's painfully obvious in high resolution  I find it mars everything it touches, notably turians and krogan.

Let me end this by saying I'm realistic; I'm not expecting you to change your textures on my account. :) But is there any chance of a non-glow version after you're done your work with it? I know I'd appreciate that very much. Something so low resolution in a high res pack is really... well, you get the idea. :)

^ I find this version (your WIP from a few days ago) vastly superior to the light-striped version. My eye is drawn to Garrus, not the ugly stripe.

No problem I can release two versions, the lights are just a layer mask. I was trying to reproduce what I saw in the Bioware promo where Garrus has those lights glowing, they are also in the texture, they just never added them to the layer mask. I did add the light around his neck based on ME3 and it's not done yet, it's really hard to get it to line up with the polys so I may nix it all together. I understand and in many ways agree with your view on the lights so I have no problem releasing both when the texture is finished. I wish they did cast light and that the glow would mask the resolution of the lights, I think then the effect would be really awesome. Thanks for your support and I'm always open to constructiove criticism, as I aim to please not just myself with this mod, but Mass Effect fans in general. It's a great community here and I'm glad to be able to add to something to it :)

Thanks, CDAMJC. :)

I find your open-mindedness and candor just as welcome a sight as your high res textures.

The Mass Effect community has, bar none, the best modding community I've seen. Not just in terms of quality but approachability. Yourself, Ottemis, Jean-Luc, Dead_Meat, Smarteck, PKchu, saltisgood, Mr.Fob, and many others over the years. You're the heroes Mass Effect deserves.

Thank you :) I agree, this community is the best I've been involved with, everyone seems greatful and respectful.  I haven't seen trolls or flaming since I've joined here and its always been a pleasant experience. It is a joy to work and be involved with all of you.

One suggestion I'd make for Garrus' armor (and you might be planning this already) is to tone down the scratches a bit. With the exception of a few scratches/scuffs, it looks more realistic for most of the wear and tear to be near the edges of the armor plates, rather than being almost evenly distributed across the whole armor.

Yes, I totally agree I got carried away with the scratches.  Thanks for the advice :)

I am currently reworking some things, the light behind his head will be nixed I couldn't get to look clean, the polys are wacky in that area and I can't get a straight line.  At the moment I've added a brushed metal feel to the armor, no scratches, yet and I'm trying to figure out an appropriate texture for the softer parts of the armor.  We'll see what I come up with by the end of this weekend.

You know, I'm sure there are people out there that wonder why there's so much interest in textures/mods for older games [in the trilogy], and i have to say, even now I'm about to do another full playthrough (to utilise MEHEM -- I've been holding off until it was semi-finished).

It's like asking why someone watches their favourite movie again. Only, this gets improved upon re-play.

Well keep in mind that the outfit is C-Sec so try to make it more of a police style? *shrugs*

It's looks pretty sweet right now.

Edit: You could always try for the ME3 look

ME1 - default

ME2 - added lighting in weird places for some reason.

ME3 - finally put the lighting in the right places

How about this?

Posted Image

I added the C-sec logo on chest shoulders and back, kind of like police. I couldn't copy the ME3 style because the polys are different and have hard edges where the ME1 model has round.

Ehh not too sure about the logo without seeing it ingame myself.

Might be the area light but the blue look's rather dark in my opinion.

Hmm I'm getting mixed reviews. My logic is that this is the C-Sec armor yes. I view Garrus as a Sci-fi "film noire" rogue cop that can go paragon or renegade so I thought the "cop uniform" would fit. I kept the logo grungy though so it doesn't jump out. I'll wait for more opinions until I decide. And I can always do 2 versions so if you really hate it let me know:)

Taking a break from Garrus I've done a little work on Liara

^^ Looks really good, I especially like the fact that you're trying to bring out the leather-like skin of Liara on the face.

I do like the look of the last garrus, just think the blue could stand out more, closer to the me2 style, and most importantly needs to look clean - even in the wards the citadel isnt filthy and action isnt as common as that texture seems to suggest. And besides, C-Sec would maintain and manufacture armour constantly, they wouldn't let a detective wander around the citadel tower in damaged and worn armour, so even if his armour had suffered damage on duty, he'd probably have a clean set shortly before we first meet him.
2 other questions - firstly, for the sake of continuity, will garrus' armour be available for other c-sec turians in all 3 games eventually, and will liara's face work in all 3 games?
Secondly, would an eyebrow-less liara (and benezia) be possible? I know it's silly, but it just knocks down the whole sci-fi thing for me (EDIT: removed my rant, not necessary - in short, I'm not a fan of the convenient eyebrow markings). Keep up the fantastic work, the new techniques you're using are really making a difference and are such a vast improvement over your early work

Great suggestions and observations.  I like your attention to detail. I will try and bring out the blue more :) and clean it up a little bit. A lot of the lights and darks are actually a brushed steel look which shimers/shines slightly in game with a cool subtle effect so i'll try to maintain that.

I will eventually put Liara in all three games.

The C-Sec armors are different polys and therefore UV mapping in ME2 and ME3 so it will be a lot of work :/. For now I'm focused on ME1.

Eyebrow-less is possible but it will have to be a seperate file because I want to leave the eyebrow for "staying true to Bioware's sake".

I'm glad you like the new techniques(I learned what "brushes" did and how to use them :P), and thanks for your support :)

Listening to suggestion from here and Moddb I have come up with this. I brought out the blue, removed the chest logo and cleaned him up a little bit. Thoughts suggestions?
