Yeah the darker skin tones work pretty good and all have the same level of detail, though I'm still dissapointed in when trying to create a black character they just don't quite look right.

That's a common issue in video games, yeah - I'm not too surprised.

Thus, don't feel bad if it turns out it's too much of a pain to resonably implement. ;)

I will maintain news about that here as I'm sure Saltisgood will maintain updates at their page. I plan on using the tool to build packs for Mass Effect 1 and release, but I'm not exactly sure how it works yet so I'll update once I've used it and know exactly what I am doing.

Hey, I keep getting an issue when using this mod. As soon as I click "Run", I get a "General Protection Error", and it's ONLY with this mod. I haven't checked through all of the pages yet, but an answer would be greatly appreciated! Also, this error came up the third time I tried to run the game. The first two times it worked fine.

Edit: All right, I somehow fixed the error, but now I keep getting "runtime error" instead. It's not everytime, but mostly always. Really annoying, because I'm a sucker for texture mods <3

Second edit: Nope, didn't get it fixed after all. Now it just shows up randomly ingame instead.

@CDAMJC

Thank you so much for all the Mass Effect 1 textures.

You and MrFob are the one's that made it possible to replay Me3. (For me).

and yes i started again playing on ME1 ... now at 1980x1200 and the mod. Its a complete different experience as i had before!!! I love the texture's !

AND! i know now that finally after all i did Nicole Shepard does not die in a piece of rumble!

Although not 1 single war asset is important and i still got one ending.... Yes For me the Mehem ending did it! Finally i can replay with your mods!

Thank You

Thank You!

I hope to release them soon, work has been terribly busy and I was distracted this weekend with the Surface Pro.

I actually like windows 8 on a touch screen! A tablet with Steam, Origin, fully functional Photoshop, and a Wacom pen = a small fantasy of mine....basically I really love it and if you've got the cash and are into those things I recommend it. For me it wasn't a waste because I didn't own a tablet or laptop, so I got both in 1. But it was the stylus that sold me on it. Anyway I'm hoping to start texturing on it soon and see how it goes. I have a feeling it will be faster than with a mouse, hopefully.

To answer your question of when...hopefully a week but maybe a month, sorry to be vague but work is crazy right now. But I'm definitely going to get crackin' this weekend.

Hey guys. I'm having the time of my life trying to get this to work with ME1. Texmod, Origin, and nothing changes except some BioEngine tweaks. Heads are mostly fine, but most textures (primarily the armor and clothing) are still the really, really low-res stuff - as if texmod wasn't even running. I sitll get the black loading screen at the beginning, but even with it nothing changes.

Also have the LAA so that it doesn't crash. I've followed the switching names, opening in origin, and switching the names back but it doesn't work. Thankfully ME2 and 3 work, but can't start from the beginning without ME1!

I just noticed the other newly created thread where another user is having the same issue I had, but I posted in here to consolidate it in one thread.

Origin is a pain, here is a link on it for Mass Effect 3 : Youtube.com the TexMOd set up with Origin is @ 9 minutes 50 seconds so just skip t othat time in the video. I would rename the mass effect 3 references to mass effect 1 and do the same with the directories (making sure they match your Mass effect 1 directories, you see in the .bat file in the video.   I have tested and it works for me so good luck and let me know if you need anymore help :)

I've tried this method many times and I still am not getting any results. I still get the long black screen load time, but I can tell right away that it didn't work since the planet on the title screen is really low res. I check again in-game and it's terrible.

Edit: Just before I posted tihs, I figured out what I did wrong. I didn't pay as much attention as I should have when making sure the directories were correct on the output. That, and apparently the game has low settings automatic since the last time I played for some reason. Started a new file and it does indeed... finally... look as good as default ME2. That's all I can ask for at this point. Now I can get on with playing the whole trilogy again.

Thanks CDAMJC for the help and many thanks for your work!

This is not exactly the proper place, but if anyone knows, it'd probably be someone who reads this thread:

Is there anyway with the console or coalesced.bin editing to force Shepard into in his N7 armor with a helmet on the Normandy? I'm trying to record footage of him without showing his face and the best I have reveals he's white and his hair color and style, and I'd rather not do that.

Hi there, love the mod you did, looks very stunning, but I still have some problems with it, maybe you can help (can't rewatch all 47 pages, to find the answer. sorry :) )
Ok here it goes:
1. There are a lot of temp. Text artifacts happening, that makes the text unreadable. (Menu, Dialog f.e.)
2. Sth. that made me jump like I saw slender, was in the beginning, when Shep, anderson and nihlus watch the footage, insted of Sovereign it shows a face texture.
3. The menu and the dialog wheel sometimes have some weird negative artifact. (just like point 1)

I hope you or someone else, has an answer.
But so far nice job!

Those are common bugs, from my knowledge, there is no way to fixing them other than reloading when those bugs occur. There is one method to remove these kind of bugs, it is tedious, and it doesn't matter anyways as this method, if I'm not mistaken, has a memory leak and you can't play for more than 20 minutes or so.

Yes, the memory leak is true if you run the textures unpacked in logging mode, a waste of time really. But for now alt+tab will clear up the issues as they come and you will need to repeat as necessary. This is due to TexMod and its inefficiencies.

I am currently playing with saltisgood's ME1 Explorer and working with fog.gene to report bugs and test the program so hopefully saltisgood can sort out the bugs. Hopefully soon we will have a TexMOd free version of the mod :) Then there will be no long load time, no graphical glitches, and no complicated install :D

Oh I see, thanks for the response! I was about to think, something was going wrong. Phew .

And @CDAMJC thanks for the Alt+tab solution! ^_^ Will give it a try.

I love the Surface Pro! Currently photoshop needs an update, or windows does, (not sure which) to allow pressure sensitivity with the pen so I am waiting for that, the pen does work just no pressure sensitivity yet for Photoshop.   To test the pen I use sketch book and simple paint apps free from the windows store and I can say its going to be amazing for photoshop once updated.

I know the surface is a controversial item.  My opinion is that the surface pro = the ONLY item that does everything it does in one package.  It runs Windows RT tablet apps and Windows 8 Pro (full OS) and functions as a drawing tablet with a screen (which typically cost just as much or more than the Surface Pro itself.  With it, I get fun tablet apps apps but also office, photoshop, and steam.  This cannot be done on Android, Apple, or the Surface RT because they are tablets, where as the Surface RT is the future for laptops.  So when I read reviews complaining about price, weight, and battery life, all compared to the beloved ipad, I roll my eyes because they are reviewing the pro as a tablet and its not.

Until now I was an avid Android supporter, apple just turned me off with arrogance and ads that offended me being a heavy PC user.  They basically called me a loser with those comercials so I vowed then to never go apple.  I understand apple is a solid product for what they are, but as a gamer and because they offended me I wont buy Apple period.  I dig my galaxy Nexus but I am really enjoying the windows 8 feel with a touch screen and with my next phone I may go Microsoft aswell.  Its just so fast to navigate and it feels more polished to me than Android or Apple.  I feel they are on to something I just worry its too late to the game in the phone and tablet world.

Back on topic I can only recommend the Surface Pro with windows 8, not the RT.  This is because there aren't enough apps to compete with Apple or Android and there is no core windows legacy support.  Tablets are vastly slower than the Surface Pro, this thing is lightning fast and stomps iPad, Android, and the RT in app loading, transitions, and multitasking.  We're talking an i5 vs ARM processors, 4gigs of RAM vs 1or2 in tablets, and a solid state HDD vs flash based storage technology.  This is what I mean when I say it's not a tablet.  This makes tablets feel like gimmicky toys, now I know there are serious apps out there for the working world on the other platforms, so please no hating, its just my opinion that this device feels more useful.  When applied to what I do on it, it's definitley more useful for me.

The creator of Penny Arcade did one of the latest issues on the Surface Pro it's a great article that unbiasly describes what it does from art to steam.  I can run Mass Effect vanilla great on it and I think it'll handle the mod in the new format...but we'll see.  There are also videos of this thing running Skyrim, do that on a tablet :)

Basically I love it and recommend it, I know its pricy but look at what you're getting: an Ultrabook, a Surface RT, and a drawing tablet.  Try buying all three of those for a grand. Now if you don't have use for those three items don't buy it, but if you want all three I don't think there is a better deal whether in one device or three.

Sorry to ramble, there just seems to be so much hate towards this device, but I love it so I'm trying give it some props.

I was in a Mass Effect mood today, so I have expanded an old article to have practical pointers about the ME Launcher, CDAMJC's work, Nvidia Inspector and Sweet FX.

It's the last section of this article, "Playing Mass Effect in 2013".

So a bit of an update:

I am chipping away adding the textures and getting them into the game with ME1 Explorer. The textures that work run like silk. However I can't seam to edit the dynamic shadows texture yet, or normal maps. i also cant find the light and shadows maps with TexExplorer. I am working away but its taking longer than I'd planned. The bugs have been reported to saltisgood so I'm sure when he gets a chance he'll look at it.

I also have confirmed that Bioware was not lying when they said to fix Garrus's texture they would need a patch over 1 gig. I have learned a lot in the process of adding the textures with ME1Explorer, the Mass Effect 1 file system is asinine with redundancies the textures are stored multiple places over an over again so replacing one texture means you have to replace it in all of the places its stored, in some cases over 100! Luckily ME1Explorer can do this automatically but it is ballooning the size of my game a bit, adding a couple gigs so far. However don't panic as long as you have the disk space there seems to be very little if any increase in system demand. Much more resource friendly than TexMod.

That said I have no clue how to release when I'm done, I think I have to host the entire CookedPC folder because almost everything is modded in it due to the stupid file system. This means the download with be huge like 12-13 gigs and this mean your game will take up that space plus maybe 1 more gig tops because most of the data is in that folder. For comparison the vanilla folder was a bit over 9 gigs without mods.

So I may have to resort to a torrent? Or figure out a way to make an installer which, knowing nothing about programming, I have no clue how to do. Any help/advice welcome. That's it for now...back to modding.

Thanks for the update, CDAMJC. I've been trying to find the lights and shadows maps for quite a while now. I thought they might be cubemaps located in different files inside the textures folder, but no luck so far.

Hopefully salt will nail the few remaining issues soon enough. The ideal way of distribution would be as an installer, similarly to the way salt did it for ME3. I'm not a programmer either, but I'll be willing to look at a way to do that. At the very least I'll try to help. As you english speakers like to say, we'll cross that bridge when we get there :)

[Edit: This may be wishful thinking, but another possibility is that salt implements modmaker mode for ME1 Texplorer, as the ME3 version has, in which case release of your mod would be much simpler.]

Yeah well i was one of those haters but thanks to your euthisiam for the device and windows 8, RT, and surface i like it all now and very excited to install Windows 8 and use it when i have the time of course i have been very busy with my studies, and yeah it's really interesting and very cool stuff, and maybe Microsoft is right on the money for their time to enter into the tablet world, and they invest for the first time making their own computer the surface pro i believe. Windows Phone 8 idk i really don't know will have to see where that goes i am very acustomed to android, but when i have a job again i usually have two to three devices and i do want to use it all like a ipod touch and let's see if they bring out the equivalment of that out someday. Also dang 12 to 13 gigs that's like the skyrim mods it's 32 gigs with it all really is something else very exciting to see some videos, could you upload some videos and pics, you haven't done much videos sadly. Very exciting and interesting update, and yeah you have to do a torrent hosting will in the end probably be too expensive to upkeep, happy modding and thank for all your work you have done so far! I personally haven't had the best experience so far with the hr project by saltisgood it's just my comp probably a lot of issues recently have to reinstall the OS and go with windows 8.
