OK if you are launching through texmod and loading the full pack and clicking run and it loads immediately then texmod isn't working. Sometimes this can happen if the tpfs get moved, so make sure to re-browse for them and not just to pick them from the list. Other than that make sure you are in package mode not logging mode. This is the first case I've had where TexMod launches but doesn't work. Usually there is a crash of some sort if there are issues, or TexMod won't run at all. This is puzzling.

@Velvet-Velour, I used to have troubles running the fullpack.tpf from ModDB; something about running out memory. I'm not sure what was going on (with 16GB RAM and 4GB VRAM I doubt I was having memory problems), but using the individual files at the BSN Project page solved the problem.

My suggestion, load only one or two .tpf files at first, something that you can check ingame right away. That way you know texmod is working. If it does, keep adding files, slow and steady.

If the full pack wasn't working, I'm wondering if it was killing your VRAM (1gb).  Try the performance pack, and also applying LAA to TexMod.  Just for full pack purposes, but I'm glad it's at least working with the individual files.

At the time I had LAA applied to MassEffect.exe, but I didn't think of doing the same for Texmod. You think that might have been the cause?

I can confirm that applying the LAA to Texmod got the full pack to work...
Well I guess it's better than having to load all individual files! Texmod froze at first when I selected the pack but then loaded up. Took a bit to load the game, so I knew it had to be working (:
In your Tutorial you never mentioned applying the LAA to texemod, just the Masseffect.exe, unless I overlooked it.
Maybe you can add that to your tutorial in case someone else experiences the same problem and doesn't have to scroll through pages to find an answer before asking. Because i did, so I didn't have to hassle anyone.. until I couldn't find an answer :P
Thanks again though!

As far as I know, the individual files contain textures that are more up-to-date than the full pack. You might want to load those too. Not sure how you load those on top of the fullpack though, I don't use Texmod.

I don't know where you get the time to test ME1Tex and still update the stuff for Texmod, but it's good to hear nonetheless.

Btw, you got a PM.

CD, thanks for your article about repacking textures into a .tpf - it was the only explanation I found after a quick search. This allowed me to modify Smartteck's Ajax texture for ME3 so the orange buttons became a dull, dark red.

I'll see if I can use this knowledge to do a non-Cerberus version of the M-13 Raptor (but not a hi-res one, since I'm *clearly* not an artist outside of some very simple processing).

EDIT: well, I now have a modified Diff texture (Cerberus logo scratched out with a knife, and Cerberus yellow repainted Alliance blue). Given the amount of cursing getting there took, determining how to make it useable by TexMod will have to wait for tomorrow. :P

Actually Saltisgood and Fog.gene did an amazing job on the latest svn and I am adding textures on by one and testing thoroughly so it will take some time, plus I am of course retouching textures and adding more textures. I'll post some screens soon :)

So far while adding the texture with Mass effect Explorer I've tweaked and/or added the following:

Saren added the fabric folds and depth in his armor that were missing when I re-textured him.
Chakwas (found the Mass Effect font for her label and all labels) added more folds and details
Liara added more folds and details
Anderson Uniform added more folds and details
Normandy Uniforms added more folds and details and added in the spec map for extra clarity
Tackled the geth hoppers ( may still need more work, but they are not blocky anymore)
Elcor added significant details muscular lines and a new skin pattern,
Cleaned up the Turian Tatoos ( The Turian Counciler and Nhilus' faces look sharp now)
Fixed the labels on Scientists to Mass Effect font and added more depth and folds
Tweaked the reporter robot to be less "chalky"
Made all non playable Asari use an Asari texture taken and then re-textured from ME3 to work with ME1 (all Asari look better now)
Made a highres Soverign Based off of the Highres version stored in the game but not used! Reworked his diff, normal, and spec maps (Sovereign looks much clearer now).

I am currently working adding more detail on the colonists and geth, and then who knows, whatever I come across.

The only sad thing is that I can't find the light and shadow maps with MEExplorer :(  Maybe it's something I can talk to Saltisgood about.

But rest assured I am working as hard as possible to get this TexMod free and have a few extra goodies included when it comes out :)

I've been trying to get this to run for quite awhile today, but after about 5 minutes of black screen and loading (which I know is supposed to be normal) everything goes wacky and I get these two error messages and then a crash.

(you may have to click to zoom in on them, they sometimes show up small)
Error 1

Error 2

I did see someone else had one of these problems 2 months ago, but never responded to you in order to help or figure out the issue.

I am running the steam digital deluxe version. I have used texmod quite a bit on all 3 games. I was previously using a Garrus face fix and a Liara texture for ME1 without any problems, but removed those when I went to try and load up your mod, so it is the only one I am trying to use. Also, when I startup with those two mods instead of yours, I do not encounter this error. I am using Windows 7 ultimate edition, I have 8gigs ram and a ati 7870HD with 2 gigs vram, not sure if processor matters but I have a AMD PhenomII x6 1090T at 4,2GHz  . I have attempted to verify integrity of the game cache through steam, it did say two files failed to validate and would be replaced, but I am not sure which files these were. I attempted to run the mod again after this, and I am still getting the same errors. Not sure what to do from here.

I appreciate any help provided, if you are unable to do so that is fine and understandable, as I saw in your last post about the first error your mod shouldn't be doing anything to effect those files. But hopefully there is a solution to be found somewhere! :D

Edit: Adding that this is also happening whenIi try to use fullperformance pack, and also when trying to use individual files of various combinations or only using a few files and not all. There is one difference with these options, I can get to the screen where the Bioware logo comes up, it starts to animate, and THEN the errors come up and the game crashes/freezes.

Going to keep messing around to see what I can come up with. Again, this is only with your textmod files, so it is really weird. When I use the textmod files I had before, everything works fine.

I'm having an unusual problem when playing with this mod- half the time, it loads up fine, textures as pretty as you please, then something happens- I have to save and quit, or unexpected shutdown, or... whatever, and the textures stop working. The next time I load everything up, half of them are missing, and it takes a computer restart to get it working again. Anyway, I'll keep restarting (better than playing without the mod) but I hope someone might have some insight on the issue.

For reference, I have an Origin copy of ME1 that I'm playing, I'm running Windows 7, and I have 4 GB RAM and a dual-core processor. Also a high-end ATI graphics card.

Hello there,

I have seen these errors before the issue is usually invalid mip or lod settings in the bioengine.ini, Mass Effect 1 is really picky with these and will crash if some lods are changed.  Try deleting the bioengine.ini and running the game.  This will generate a new one and you'll need to pick your in game settings again etc...but see if it lets you in the game.  If it does go back and apply the ini tweaks mentioned in the original post.  If you then get in game apply any additional tweaks one by one and see what works and what doesn't.  Good luck, I hope this solves it, and let me know if it doesn't and you need more help :)

Very strange, is LAA applied to TexMod.exe and MassEffect.exe?  This may help having it a pllied to both, but I've never heard of this before now.  If it doesn't work, I can tell you that I am working hard on the non-TexMod version and you won't have these problems for long.

Yea, I tried deleting the bioengine file. It didn't help sadly. I already had the tweaks from the post added as well. I ended up just uninstalling the enitre game and reinstalling. It is working right now so long as I only use a few of the texmods. But once I try to use one of the full packs, it konks out on me again. I am not getting the error pop ups, but what happens now is that it sits on a black screen loading, like it is working, then it stops loading and the entire thing locks up and then crashes. I have no idea what is causing it, but I am thinking it is just something on my end at this point.

That said, the mods I am able to use look fantastic, lol. I have the dynamic shadow fix, light and shadow map, garrus/liara/wrex/anderson faces, male and femshep faces,  and the N7 armor working. Hopefully I can get the rest working eventually, or come revisit them when the non-texmod version is working.

Apply LAA to TexMod to get the fullpack working, apparently the new number of textures, over 400, before it was 380 something requires LAA to be applied with TexMod, or else it loses its place when loading the fullpack and crashes.

Yep, applied LAA to both. But I can put up with it in anticipation for the non-texmod version. :D

I suspect it has something to do with the merry chase Windows 7 and an Origin installation led me on when installing and running these- the folders are in totally different spots, plus there's the game launcher, plus...

Bleh.  Heheh.

What exactly is the difference between the fullpack and the performance version? Is it less textures, or the same number but without certain mappings? I really want to use the full pack, but unfortunately I get an error every time I load it, so I'm stuck using the performance edition and I would love to know what I lose for doing so.

You only lose the 4096x4096 pixel textures, I have instead used 2048x2048, the difference can really only be seen on Tali and the Normandy but they are still double the highest resolution Mass Effect 1 vanilla uses for textures, so in short you're not missing too much.

I'd just like to post and say how much I like these HD textures. Mass Effect has never looked so good.

The only thing I don't like is Anderson, Pressly et al have white hands. But I don't really talk to Pressly anyway, and Anderson is only seen at the start and then only a few times afterwards. Otherwise this is a really nice mod.

Yeah I felt the same way, I've been working on this:

I also created gloves that match the dark parts of the uniform with a gold stripe that matches the other stripes to tie it in, this is done to get arounf the fact that Anderson is black and had Caucasian hands.
