Out of curiosity, did you decide not to do those Tali metal updates?

Not like, you hadn't worked on a million other textures or anything, but I was just wondering. >_>

Nope I am still working on those, they are 33.3% complete, I finished the diff, but I haven't decided how I want to hand the spec and tint maps yet.  Tali is probably the hardest texture in all of the textures this mod covers, so I want to put some time into it.  There will be an updated version that's tolerable in the coming pack, but I want to take my time and do almost a complete overhaul of her, but I don't want to hold the pack and more than it's been, so she'll be completely finished in the following version.

Hey CDAMJC, I was wondering, where are you at with the installer mate? Have you been able to figure out how to code it yourself, enlisted any help, or.. ?

I'm also thinking that making individual mods out of all these textures is going to be a pain, that is if you're still releasing an alternate .mod version.

Installer is all set.  I went with "Setup Factory", its free as long as what you are using it for is free, and they let me fully customize everything, so it looks legit.  There is a small, very short, unobtrusive splash screen at the end of the install that says something along the lines of "installer created by Setup Factory".  I am very happy with the program and recommend it to anyone looking for an installer.  It installs fast and has a ton of options customize graphics, panels, wording, font you name it.

So what's the hold up you ask? I just have to finish re-texturing and adding the re-textures with ME1Explorer. I wish I could take a week or two off of work to get it done, but I don't have that option :( So for now I do what I can on the weekends and at night, its not going as fast as I'd like.

As for individual mods...gawd I've spent so much time on the full installation maybe I'll do individual?  Its such a pain with the file format as some mods share files with other mods etc...it may turn into a nightmare.  Before I even think about how/if I'm going to do that I just want to finish this beast first.

Glad to hear everything's figured out installer-wise. I understand that RL comes first, take all the time you need.

As an alternative to the individual .mods, if I may suggest, if you were to release the a stand-alone package with the textures only I'm sure people can do the rest on their own. And there's always modders willing to repack for everybody else. Just a thought.

Take care mate. Let me know if there's something I can do to help.

That should be easy enough because I'm naming them as I go.  I'll host those up on Moddb when I release the installer, then hopefully I should get no complaints.

I actually have yet to even try .mods, mainly because I've been busy with the installer version but also because it requires some level of technical skill and I don't want younger and/or less technical users barraging me with tech support questions and complaints on things not working.  Its a little selfish I know, but after over a year and a half, you get a little tired of answering questions that are covered in the readme :P

Thanks again for all your help and support through this I truly appreciate it :)

Hey CDAMJC,

Your approach to separate Liara's hi-res outfit from her hi-res face -- leaving people to choose which version of her mug they liked better -- was neat. Is such an approach feasible with the new tech ?

Well considering its non-TexMod and I'm doing one large install, the answer is no not exactly.  The game will default to my texture, but you can easily add any textures you like with ME1Explorer after the install to further customize your game to you permanently without TexMod.

When I release the mod I am also going to add to the MEExplorer wiki the names of all the textures modified so it should be easy to type liara's face texture name into ME1Explorer, find it, and overwrite it with the one you want.  It should take about a minute tops and you'll never have to do it again.

I'm really sorry to bug you right now but I'm a HUGE fan of mass effect and would love NOTHING more then to be able to play it with all your fancy upgrades :(! Basically my problem is that I applied the patch and all that is specifically told to get texmod to work for my version of the game but nothing changes. I've downloaded texmod from three different sources and they all had the crazy loading times, but when the game starts nothing has changed! I've tried other mods as well as yours and still nothing changes! I even tried texmod with mass effect 2 to no avail.
Here are my system specs :
OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home PremiumSystem Type x64-based PCProcessor AMD Phenom™ II P960 Quad-Core Processor, 1800 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 6.00 GBTotal Physical Memory 5.74 GBTotal Virtual Memory 11.5 GBPage File Space 5.74 GB
If you have a fix for this problem or could direct me to someone who does (I've searched for two days without so much as a hint) I would REALLY appreciate it so much! Thank you!

Yeah I've had that problem before, is your texmod.exe file located in the same folder as MassEffect.exe? That may be the reason the textures dont load. Also, if you get an error message, use the LAA patch, select ME.exe from the binaries folder and make sure the box is checked before you save and close the window. I have to do that everytime before starting up texmod  otherwise ME feeds me back an error after the 5-6min wait.

Hope I've helped.

Mmm, I suspect you'll end up with people ****ing that they want to go back to such-and-such original texture for such-and-such character, but they can't since the original texture was replaced by the modded one.

Can this be preemptively addressed ? Like, the installer saves the original textures it's about to replace to a folder, so people can fish them back after using the wiki to find the correct name ? This could save some pain.

Hey again, I downloaded you latest mod "FullPack032313.tpf" but now Texmod won't work. I can select masseffect.exe but after I select the tpf file, Texmod always crashes "Texmod has stopped working"

I've tried several times to redowload the file but with no result. Any help, please?

Yes, it can be prevented. The thing about modding your textures is.. They are held in .pcc files. Theres many of those. The idea is that ME3.. Or ME1 explorer takes the modded .pcc's and replace them with the old ones.

The solution for this when you want to revert back.. Is to just simply back up your "CookedPC" folder before you install the mod. That way you can switch out whatever you want without any hassle. :)

EDIT: I mean, I know this isn't a .mod file, but it does the same thing, it replaces the .pcc files in said folder, so you just need to back them up. Always, back up that folder before you edit stuff. Saves yourself hell of a lot repair/reinstall time.

Yes well explained thank you. In the installer you will be prompted (optional) to backup your cookedPC folder before proceeding to allow you to easily revert back to vanilla.   As said above, this is not a .mod so reverting isn't the same and will have to be a manual folder placement/renaming however you decide to back up the vanilla folder.  Picking and choosing which textures get loaded during the install gets too complicated because of the file structure, different mods are installed the same pcc files, so for compatability and to avoid crashes I am doing one large installer.  After the install is complete, feel free to grab textures from the vanilla or other mods and put them in with ME1Explorer.

Also btw. the question about backing up the files as the install goes on is clever. How ever I dunno if it can be done, however I have a little tip.

When you do a fresh install of ME1 or for that matter anything else, you will have the option to arrange the folder for said game by "Date modified", the date modified thing carries over from when the dev created the file. This means that when you customize the .pcc's ONLY the ones you've customized will have another date. In this way you can go back in your backup folder and find the names of those files with newer modifications.

Hope this tip helps some1.. I know many ppl prolly knows it alrdy.

Bye now.

To clarify, the installer won't back up anything for you, you will need to back up the folder/files yourself. I have simply added a text prompting you to do so before beginning the installation.

The time stamp is very useful it helps me keep the installer size down because I don't install any files that are unmodded, and that allows me to keep track of what is and isn't modded. However time stamps won't really help on the user because of the integration of many mods shared in many pcc files. So its impossible to remove one texture by swapping the pcc from vanilla because that texture is in many pcc files, not only will it crash because of failed hash checks of the texture size, it also may remove a re-texture you wanted to keep because they were both in that pcc file you restored.

The best/only way to customize the mod is after installation with ME1Explorer. Use the program to find the texture you want to replace and save the changes, ME1Explorer will then save your changes to the multiple pcc files that contain the texture and will take care of everything for you. This is not hard and fairly quick with a small number of textures. The process becomes laborious when dealing with something the size of this mod, which is why I am doing it for everyone and making an installer. I find it much more reasonable this way for the end user, 300 textures done for you and if you prefer other textures mainly the handful from JeanLuc you can load those few yourself, rather than me uploading all the textures and expecting users to create .mods and/or add the files manually.

One thing I've noticed, the reds in human and turian colossus armor doesn't match the dark reds from the quarian/krogan versions. Anyone here interested in fixing this for some armor color consistency? I'd do it myself but won't have enough time to get to it anytime soon.
