After installing over vanilla with "Bring Down the Sky" my folder is 20.4GB which seems more like it. This time I installed to an empty folder and then pasted the new extracted textures and shader fix into game dir. No black demon eyes but I agree with Crimson, looking at faces in the squad screen is a bit weird due to the shadowy flickering. I didn't apply LAA this time either, and no crashes for me.

Uh? LAA causes crashes?

Also, did you use the new Shadow Fix CDAMJC uploaded?

No lol LAA stops crashes if the games uses more than 2 gigs, I am saying even without LAA I get no crashes so at least for me LAA isn't needed. And yeah I said I am using the shader fix, it is as Crimson says - that value causes a lot of crosshatchy shadows but I don't know what value to change it to for optimum shadows. I have it on
DepthBias=0.006000

Set shadowdepthbias to 0.03 to turn down the facial shadows.  Many people prefer this look, where as I like the extra shadows cast by 0.006 even if they are a bit funny looking, AO usually blend them well enough to mask the majority of the issues.

Cleared cache and tried 0.03. It is much better imo :wizard:

Anyone else gotten this error?

"Rendering thread exception:
General Protection Fault!

History: GMatrix2D::Swap0 Address = 0x10bb5ed6 (filename not found) in
C:Program Files (x86)\\Origin Games\\Mass Effect\\Binaries\\MassEffect.exe"

I get this crash anytime I try and talk to the Council from the Normandy.

EDIT: Using LAA worked, thank you again!

Apply LAA to MassEffect.exe, if you already have, see the rest of the troubleshooting section in the first post on this thread.

Okay, it would seem my game doesn't work at all so it's possible the error I'm experiencing has nothing to do with the mod.

The odd thing is that I played ME1 less than two weeks ago and it worked fine, but after installing this mod and failing at getting it to work I've tried to reinstall from Steam twice, followed by the 1.02 patch yet the game doesn't launch. I get the splash page, flicker to black, maybe a fragment of the Bioware logo and a small burst of its sound effect, then desktop. try the taskbar icon, black flicker, desktop, rinse and repeat.

I'm sorry to have wasted your time. I'll be back to try this amazing mod again once I've gotten this damn game to function as it should. If I can that is, so far I've tried all the run as admin and service pack solutions on Steam, Launcher, MassEffectLauncher and MassEffect respectively, still no luck.

Gah!

Onyx armour looks awesome, but... Why the helmet doesn't look like a "new" armour?

They use the same damn helmet texture for every armor lol so I left because it would look really weird, and the helmet doesn't have as many depth texture so it wouldn't look the same no matter what I did...

other than the never experienced black texture bug I hit on Noveria, which is completely unrelated, CD, you've done an outstanding job and I applaud you for it. Now I need to start changing some music in the game to things like Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper....

Thanks. It works now ... for reasons not entirely known. Just a deep breath then I'm ready to try your mod again.

I'm happy to say the mod works for me now with zero problems during installation, except for having to drag-and-drop the files into the Mass Effect folder instead of using the actual installer to reach the 20GB.

I'm amazed at all the work you've put into this - it looks like an entirely new game. Beautiful, just beautiful! Thank you for sharing with us!

CDAMJC, is there any way for optional installation of your mods? I mean without installing everything, but just part of it.

Well, because some of the textures have extra details that weren't supposed to be in the game. Garrus' C-seq uniform for example. I like everything about it but his shoulder symbol looks out of place. And I like my Sheploo's face and don't want to change it.

Google "MEExplorer" and or "Texplorer", look up how to replace textures, and do so.  I can't release a non TexMod pick and choose because the textures all tie into eachother in large files due to the way the game engine stores them.  So I would have to to the entire mod for every version of every combintaion, which is impossible and not going to happen.

You can however use MEExplorer to browse and replace files at will.  I am not doing tech support though, you'll have to post in the MEExplorer forums, because it's advanced and too many things have a potential of going wrong on the user end, and I want to live my life lol.

Don't let me scare you away from it though, after all I used it to build the entire mod one texture at a time.

I know how to handle Texplorer, thanks :) I'll backup all files and replace every texture I need manually then.

@CDAMJC
I got around to installing the new textures with the installer and wanted to give you my field report!

The installer unfortunately did not work, I figured something was off when it took 1 second to install. I ran as administrator and everything, maybe it was because of steam? idono. So I had to use the work-around method which worked.
I have not gotten far into the game but from starting a new game I realized I would have to crank up the AA because sheperd's suit look like a living breathing organism! I have my AA cranked literally up to max and it finally looks pretty good. it will take me some time to go through the game to really give a review of the textures but from what I got from the very beginning BAM! they were awesome.
My only real suggestion at this point is to be as specific as possible in the readme, treat everyone reading it as a complete moron (like me) and say exactly which folders things go into. It took me a few to realize where to put the shader folder. luckily my previous experience with Skyrim modding gave me an idea and did a search for the shader folder in the Mass Effect directory.

Anywho, will report if I come across any problems, Thanks for all the hard work, now if you'll excuse me, I have a sexy Mass Effect game to play!
