Starting a new game, just wondering, is the fact it seems shadows or something turn backgrounds dark related to your ini tweaks or just the game being an asphole? Most noteable in dialogue scenes on close-ups of the faces of characters

This could be AO are you using ambient Occlusion?  A side effect can be a halo around characters and darker backgrounds.

i think your installer is bugged

i found why most user need to unpack the files into a different folder
practically (at least on my windows 7 64 bit) whenever the installer find a file with the same name he has to unpack, it skips it :/
...but does this happens only to me? because it seems too stupid to be real

Yep, using AO, but I had a look at the config (BioEngine.ini) vs your settings, they're laid out differently, 5.00000 for example is just 5 for example, 0.003000 is just .03, so i changed the config to match original settings but using yours, 5, .06 etc, and it's fixed it right up, looks brilliant now

Make sure it's run as administrator, and maybe double check the files in the Mass Effect directory aren't set to Read Only, I don't know if that would make any difference or not, but it depends if the installer is picky

There are 2 places in the bioengine.ini to enter the shadow tweaks one place has the low decimal places and the other had the many zeros I add the tweaks maintain sig figs per section if that makes sense...I'll have to update the readme

CDAMJC, is there any way I can still use TexMod in conjunction with your updates? Using MassEffect.exe as the target application doesn't seem to work anymore...

no, it's not this

i tried to copy original BIOC_Materials.u into  ./new_folder/BioGame/CookedPC (which aren't red only) and make the installer extract there.
and it just skips it. it goes on with the other files but BIOC_Materials.u remains 44MB (instead of the ~110 the mod has)

Tried the LAA patch? I was getting that towards the end game until I applied it

when I first installed I put the LAA patch and still had it, I may try to put it again since I've reinstalled it

Good luck, it may also be the way the game engine itself is done, it probably wasn't coded for large resolution textures and ends up blowing up

Clarification edit: I know the U3 engine is capable, I just mean BioWares modifications to it

Thanks, yeah you may be right, and I think it was the first time they used the Unreal engine so it may not be as refined as the others

I thank you again for your amazing work :)but I am running into trouble with the installer when it is almost done (Picture attached) I am not sure, could it be a faulty download of one of the parts? I really hope not because I do not want to download all of the parts again because of bandwidth limitations. I tried installing directly onto the Mass Effect folder in Steam and I tried extracting the textures into a seperate folder on a different Hard drive but I still recieve the same error . Any suggestions?

I am running it on Adminstrator mode, non of my files in the mass effect folder are read only and I applied the LAA

Here are my PC Specs:

Intel Core I7 920
6GB Corsair Dominator Blue
MSI Radeon HD7970
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit with latest updates
Graphics card running on AMD Catalyst 13.8 Beta
OS is on SSD, Mass Effect and Steam are installed on a 1TB Hard Drive and the downloaded files are on an external Hard Drive connected via USB

I think that is all the relevant information. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.

Ok, something is seriously wrong on my install...

I installed this mod on fresh installed game, with only LAA and BIOEngine fixes from first post applied.
I used my polish retail version but I installed it in english, thus I don't have any subtitle artifacts (although splash screens changed),
I installed shadows fix and cleared shader cache, I also checked if BIOGame fixes from first post were still there.

I started the game... and since the begining all main male characters have pitch black face! Fem shep is fine in character setup screen, But Sheploo head texture is all pitch black. When I started the game it turned out that Kaidan is also pitch black and Joker, at certain angles, is also pitch black. Any idea what happened? My cookedpc folder is 19.9 GB

Looks like a bad/corrupt installer download to me, something is corrupt, I hate to say it but you may need to redownload the installer. Maybe just the last 2 parts if you've made it almost to the end.  Try part nine first, and if it still happens try part 8 aswell and so on so you aren't downloading the whole thing.

Cooked PC folder should be 20.0 GB when using the installer make sure it is run as administrator, and that your MassEffect directory is not set to read only.  A fail safe way is to install to a new folder and then drag and drop the copntents into your Mass Effect folder.

So just download part 1? Or would you know where that texture is located? If the installer goes by order and that texture is the problem I can just download the corrupted file.

Again I thank you very much for your help.

Try part nine first, and if it still happens try part 8 aswell and so on so you aren't downloading the whole thing.

Only because its you, ;) Keep in mind it will mess with your subtitles for now, I'm working on getting Polish version subtitled but it will take some time and I still need the appropriate files, and or script to install them.

I'll post a link for the torrent once its up and I've learned how to make one.
