I'm having the same problem described by (only) a couple others on this forum... specifically the annoying "shimmering" effect emanating from the Onyx armor. I'm guessing because the game is zoomed out so far and the texture is super-detailed? It isn't a shader problem or anything, is it?

Very frustrating, because everything else looks absolutely amazing... but the shimmering Onyx armor sticks out like a sore thumb.

I have the same thing going on with mine. I would like to know as well. Can anyone answer this please?

your AMD related crash can be fix by following this guide

Well thought that fixed it as I played for four hours without a crash but now they are back. Reverted back to vanilla and the game plays fine no crashes so far never had a crash until I tried these textures this is weird. I can't figure it out. it is like the engine must not work well with this method of texture replacement or something on certain setups vanilla runs fine add theseand it dumps ( I wonder if it is maybe the shader changes certain systems don't like) Will try with the vanilla shaders wich suck)

WINDOWS 7 64bit
CPU AMD PHENOM II 1065T X6 OC 3.4 GHZ
XFX R7850 2GB GPU OC 1100/1400 using 13.8 beta 2 drivers (Tried older drivers)
16 GB RAM

Vanilla install Downloaded copy bought through Gamestop APP.   APP is not like steam has no special requirements or overlays, works fine on vanilla, tex modded or with mods added through texplorer but for some reason this mod causes the GPF Crashes.  It can't be a bad mod at all it is driving me crazy.  If I had any of the problems  on vanilla game I would blame it on just buggy ME1.  Thanks for your help so far though

EDIT  I in know way believe your mod is to blame for this and am extremely thankful for you sharing I think it is just possible that the buggy game engine of ME1 is overloadd with it on SOME CONFIGURATIONS of hardware bring out vanilla bugs that some users may not have encountered previously.  LATEST TRY.  I tried running the game in compatability mode for windows XP service pack 3 and run as administrator running straight from the Binary skipping the launcher.  Played game for one hour no crashes through section I was previously crashing.  Not willing to say that did it but maybe who knowsImage IPB

EDIT NOPE DISN'T FIX IT I GIVE UP BACK TO TEXPLORER VERSION I GUESS IT WAS STABLE FOR ME

i'm pretty sure the installer is buggy and skips already existing files

you have to install files into a different folder, and then merging them

Before the instalation, the CookedPC folder had 9.8GB iirc, after the instalation, he is still with 9.8GB, it's like, the instaler is not working.

I did this:

I installed the mod on a separate folder on the desktop then i copied and pasted on the Mass Effect folder:

Program Files (x86)/ Steam / SteamApps / Common / Mass Effect

Is this right?

by the way
i found that installing the mod change the way the game is recognized in windows
you can note this by running the game in a window
the default name is "Mass Effect", after it becomes "UnrealEngine3" (or something i dont remember any longer)

revert this please, otherwise widescreen fixer and flawless widescreen, won't work anymore

Please run the game vanilla because there is NO WAY the mod should change this because I in NO WAY changed the .exe.  Ever since I have owned Mass Effect before modding the UnrealEngine.exe is the process in the task bar once the game is running.  There is nothing I can change that will fix that on my end.

The mod was made with MEExplorer and only changes file packs that contain textures and unfortunately subtitles.  The subtitles (if they are non-english) are the only thing this mod breaks.  Please extract the installer to a new folder, and look at the files, you will find no game settings, no .dlls, and no .exe files that would change the way the game would run in any way.

Please, before you ask me to fix something know what you are talking about.

To fix widescreen fixer, which admittedly another user said was broken after installing the mod, try setting it to unrealengine.exe and see if that helps.

I'll look into it when I get home from work, as to why widescreen fixer doesn't work, because it makes absolutely no sense why it would break after installing the mod but I am certain it is not from changing the .exe file because the mod simply doesn't change the .exe file.

"launch.int"

Okay I will check when I get home because I don't know what that file is, I think it may set the language of the launcher int meaning international in this case English international.

i found that "Product" value it's the name the game use for its "friendly name" (and changing it prevent the fixing utilities from working)
maybe i'm wrong, i don know
hoping you could see the truth

Sorry, i already read the trouble section and nothing helped me. I installed with the .exe and nothing happened so i put the folder directly into the ME folder, i think it's working, but some things are strange, the shadows for example, i did the 0.03 thing and cleared the cache after dowloading the shadow fix, but i still have the block shadows. I don't know what to do.

I can't get widescreenfixer to work at all I have no idea why, but I was able to find this: which works quite well with the mod : flawless widescreen

This works beautifully to scale the FOV and also to use multiple monitors.

Widescreenfixer just crashed on me over and over, on their site they say it's not compatible with Origin version yet. Maybe there is an extra file in the origin version that got batched in with the installer or maybe the some of the .upk files are fundamentally different, but I can't find what file is causing the crash and the above program works, let me know if you like it or find any issues with it.

Hi CDAMJC! I just wanted to leave you a note here. I've installed your excellent mod on both my PC and my brothers PC, and everything went smooooth.. no problems at all with the installation and starting up the game. It's easy if you actually read the readme file ;D The mod is awesome, made me experience ME1 in a new way and I love it even more than I did before. Thank you for your hard work, it's really appreciated!

or maybe the exe is different, and different exe usually means differen arrays and etc... etc..

anyway, you checked that launch.int i was talking about?
and your window name is still the same?

The exe can't be different because it's not changed period. The exe is whatever you have installed on your pc before you installed the mod. The launch.int isn't changed since 2008 so it should be the same across all versions mine says = Mass Effect for all possible values. And it says Mass Effect in the task bar. I think if you don't have DLC installed it will say unrealengine.exe because I have definitely seen that before when I was modding a lot with TexMod but that could have been my disc version before I bought the game in Origin.

So even with mine saying Mass Effect in the task bar, widescreen fixer crashes, so I just use "flawless widescreen as it corrects many things widescreen fixer didn't like HUD issues, cut-scenes, and menus etc...From what I've read its the better program to use and supports all versions of Mass Effect 1 so why not use it?

i perfectly know that your mod doesnt touch exe, dll, and all those crap of things, thanks

if only i had still the mod on my hd... i would argument better
for now that was my only theory (just as your mod was the only one i had installed)

give me some days and i will finish to download again this beauty

@CDAMJC

I really do think that the (crashing) problems people are having with this mod is probably the latest update from Nvidia borking something with the GC drivers.

I think this because I had this mod installed with Texmod, then with ME3 explorer, and then a fresh install with the Exe and it all ran fine no crashes up until a few weeks ago. And I reckon that may coincide with an update from Nvidia.

I didn't find the crashes prolific enough to really interfere with my enjoyment of the game. It would runs fine for the most part.

So for that i really wanted to say thanks for your hard work. And thanks also for all the troubleshooting you have attempted to do for those of us who got a bit stuck.

My only regret is there isn't (yet) an ME2 mod like this that runs not using Texmod. I never realised just how long the game takes to launch using texmod. Jeez.

Okay sounds good, in the meantime I just recently bought the steam version so I can see what the differences actually are between steam and origin, why widescreenfixer wont work, and other stuff I've been wondering between the two so I can better troubleshoot for steam users directly.  So I have now bought ME1 4 times, xbox360, cd retail, Origin, and Stea, lol I guess I am certainly supporting the devs.

I'll probably get around to this next weekend because I am away this coming weekend.
