Well that depends what you want to do to your game. There are lots of cosmetic mods like pineappletrees vibrant colours, eyes etc and Bidelles cosmetics that will give you way more options in character creation which are usefull if you like creating characters, Then there are mods that give a whole new look for characters in the game and location texture make overs, new weapons etc. I don't think there are any "must have" mods so to speak just mix and match to create the game you want. I do think you should play the game through once without modding though just to experience the game as intended.

I suppose you could get some mods for companions if you want to make them prettier if you're like me and prefer Leliana to have that sacred ashes trailer look or Morrigan to look more like the concept art version etc. And maybe some cosmetic stuff to create a really fun character. For having a bunch of those you'll need to get the chargenmorphcompiler too it's much easier than arranging the mods manually so they work properly together.

But as for new all powerfull weapons and being able to cheat etc i'd save that until completing the game one time just to experience the challange as it is.

Purple Lady's Mod List is good starting point if you want to dip your toes into the waters of modding without spending hours sifting through DA Nexus. I agree with Moondoggie about weapon and cheat mods. If you absolutely must go for a cool looking mod weapon or outfit, I recommend using the Winter Forge to bring them in line with standard magical gear. Otherwise the game will be a boring cakewalk.

The only absolutely must have mods in my opinion are Dialogue Tweaks and ZDF Dialogue Fix. They repair several conversations, clean up epilogue inconsistencies, and reintegrate omited lines.

I'll second Seagloom's advice. The Winterforge requires a bit of a learning curve. The two dialogue fixes really do clean up a huge number of bugs.

I've got the DA Modder from the Nexus site so I installed a couple of suggested mod's like the sacred ashes mod and some other minor ones like the chest in the party camp, auto loot and one I found which I really like which is the skip fade mod which will come in handy when I get to that part
I think I'll take your advice Moondoggie complete the game once with just a couple of mods then experiment with others.

Thanks to the people who contributed to the thread.

I'd add the Morrigan Restoration Patch in there too, as it fixes a bunch of buggy dialogues with Morrigan as well as adding in banters and cutscenes which were cut from the game.

I wouldn't use the skip the fade mod if i were you yet. It's more for repeating it because it can get boring if you've done it a couple of times. If you skip the fade you'll miss out on a challanging puzzle and one of the more creative parts of the game.

It goes back to what i said about using cheats i think it's better to experience the full game then if you want to take shortcuts on a second, third etc playthrough go for it.

Ah thats a good one. A couple of the restored scenes had me like "WHY THE HELL DID THEY CUT THIS!?" some of the dialogues add more layers to her character.

I do have the game on the Xbox so I know how tedious that part is so it's not like I'm missing out on anything I haven't seen before.

I would suggest the Dog Mods (the one to enable him as a 5th companion, and the other that adds extra skills to him, turns him into a great fighter) Just remember to disable the 5th companion mod at certain points in the game.

Thirding the Morrigan Restoration Patch, there's a list of fixes for borked areas of the game in this thread that might make things more enjoyable.

Personally I use most of the fixes listed along with some cosmetic stuff, the phoenix armory, lock bash and TMP's
VFX weapons, tints, rescaled swords, elf, human & dwarf proportions fix, natural teeth, tucked hair, warden garments and warden armours.

Have fun!
