I just finished my first playthrough, and I played mostly in an Action RPG style. I didn't want to have to stop every 2 seconds and manage the group.
So, based on that, I used Tallis as more of a DPS/support role with a lot of survivability. I very rarely had to stop the game and heal her. Conversely, I actually found myself stopping and watching her destroy things. Ninja Trooper for the win!
These are the tactics I used for her:
Self: Health <50% -- Use: Restoration Potion
Self: Stamina <25% -- Use: Stamina Draught
Self: Any -- Activate: Lacerate
Self: Any -- Activate: Speed
Enemy: Target of Hawke -- Backstab
Enemy: STAGGERED -- Explosive Strike
Enemy: Using magic attack -- Use current condition for next tactic
Enemy: Target rank is Elite or Higher -- Cover Up
Enemy: Target is Elite or Higher -- Drop Dead
Enemy: Target rank is Normal or Higher -- Twin Fangs
Self: Surrounded by 2 or more -- Rush
Self: Surrounded by at least 3 or more -- Evade
Self: Surrounded by at least 3 enemies -- Stealth
Enemy clustered with at least 3 -- Miasmic Flask
Enemy clustered with at least 3 -- Confusion
Self: Being attacked by Magic -- Cloak
