It's almost a certainty that Fallout 4 will be utilizing an improved version of the Creation Engine. Bethesda will almost certainly go into developing Fallout 4 directly after Skyrim, and it is probably in pre-production right now.

I'd like to see:

--A larger open world than either Fallout 3 or FO:NV. I'd like to see a map the size of a TES game.

--No hard level cap and being able to continue after completing the main quest.

--More weapons of each type and more custom weapons using schematics.

--More major cities and explorable buildings/caves/tunnels.

--A continued emphasis on placing high level enemies in the world with no scaling.

--No prerequisite for power armor.

--Shooting to continue to be governed by PC Skill, with richer statistics.

Fallout: New York would make a great location IMO.

Also I assume it will utilize the Creation Engine, so it will likely incorporate Radiant Story and more complex interaction with companions.

I've just started playing New Vegas since yesterday, and I love it! I hope Fallout 4 is like that, but better. It definitely needs deeper NPC interactions though, and the leveling method is rather odd to me.

Odd how? Its better than say Oblivion's system IMHO.

However I do actually agree with you that 1 thing I would want to see is deeper NPC interaction,.

I would like to see people say "I want all characters romanceable"

Then, I'm done with you.

I want to see it developed by Obsidian and function as a true sequel to New Vegas, as F:NV was to FO1 and 2.

I think they did a fantastic job with New Vegas and hope they can continue to be involved in some way.

However, if I understand correctly Obsidian will be working on some new RPGs using their Onyx engine, so it seems unlikely that they will be working on Fallout 4, which is reported to use the Creation Engine and has probably already started development at Bethesda by now.

I agree, it's way better than Oblivion system. I just don't like how your skill level is tied to you placing points into it upon level up, rather than skills increasing by using them. I would prefer Skyrim's system of skill progression.

Same here. That's the only thing I want to see.

Isn't New Vegas technically Fallout 4?

Call the next game whatever you want, doesn't matter. Just set it where it belongs, in southwestern US.

I want to see a traditional style rpg based on tactics, stats and dice rolls, not another hybrid fps action game based on twitch gameplay.

Though it takes place after Fallout 3, it is a seperate game, like how Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Revelations are sequels, but continue Ezio's story instead of taking the role of a new assassin.

But you are playing as a separate character. In a new area of the world. Just like Fallout 1, 2 and 3 all had different PCs and, from 1 & 2 to 3, the location changed as well. So...How is New Vegas not a sequel?

I imagine you will need to get your fix from some promising upcoming indie games like Dead State.

I think you are correct in the sense that Fallout: New Vegas is another sequel in the series and the next Fallout game will probably not be called "Fallout 4" but "Fallout: [insert city name]"

However, most fans refer to the next Fallout game as "Fallout 4" - perhaps because we don't know the name yet and Fallout 3 was the last "numbered" game in the series.

Considering it's a semi shooter, I would like to see some actual tactical shooting, with more of an FPS feel seeing how it already is one (NV was better because it had actual sights, not just a reticule) And possibly a nice cover system, 3 and NV did look a bit awkward never being able to hide behind things effectively. New York does seem like a good aspiration, but there are a few open world games already based in NY. Dare I say it should be more action-y?

Just do the PR part like second game.
And game can take part in Europe, would be nice to see a nuked Eiffel Tower, or battleing Super Mutants who conquered an undamaged castle.

Thats also the word down from Bethseda. I suspect it will take place in New Vegas still with a "canon" ending, or the South West still, which sucks.

I want to see the East again or maybe the south, or some place NOT already coverd, or least run into people that can give you the run down of whats happening out those ways.

Well from all accounts Seagloom you'll get your wish, minus it will be Bethseda as the dev. But they have grabbed some of the guys who worked on the older fallouts in its ranks now, so they should do a good job (not that I seen anything wrong with fallout 3 myself.)

Now that Obsidian has Tim Cain on board, they really ought to get a chance to work on a future game following NV. They pretty much have the core people of the Black Isle Fallouts (Tim Cain who led the original two games, Chris Avellone who wrote the Fallout Bible and Josh Sawyer who led the cancelled F3). The West Coast is their story, their canon and they deserve to continue it.

I don't care if Fallout 4 is done by Bethesda and Obsidian only gets a follow up game, as long as Bethesda sticks to their East Coast territory (Fallout: NY is not a bad idea, though I want to see more about Massachusetts (Commonwealth)) and leaves Obsidian the West Coast.

edit: quick check on the Vault reveals that Feargus Urquhart (Obsidian Co-Founder & C.E.O) was actually the lead designer for Fallout 2. Didn't know that. Didn't think he had the time, crying about wells and all that.

Why is all this hate on the west coast? Also, Do you know that we are actually in the Nevada desert, not California Coast?
I will be happy to see a Fallout outside USA.
