I've been thinking about going with a human mage with Wynne and Morrigan alongside one other (either Shale or Leliana depending on the importance of an actual tank/lockpicking). So I suppose my questions are:
Do you really need a dedicated tank or can the CC ability along with spot tanking from Morrigan in Bear along with an Arcane Warrior be enough?
Is lock picking vital? aka Do you miss a lot of goodies if you have to bypass locked chests? Or are all areas re-visitable so you can go back and pick all the locked chests?
One other thing I always wanted to ask....can you have Wynne and Morrigan in the same party without them fighting/one of them leaving? I'd imagine you'd have to walk a fine line if it is possible given they lie on opposite sides of the morality spectrum.

I'm not sure for Bioware whether or not lockpicking is essential..i mean there is always a way around it either by force or spell...now If they take the Bethesda route...well you better have some skills

If you play on easy you may get by with no tank, but it'd be inadvisable even with Wynne doing heals.
Not sure if the lockpicking is "vital". Everything I've read said that while there were a lot of locked chests they were able to get by without opening them just fine. I'm sure it'd be nice to be able to open if nothing else then for selling the gear inside for extra gold.
You can have Wynne and Morrigan in the same party, but you need to be careful with quest choices otherwise Wynne may turn on you.

Depends on how well Morrigan can tank as a bear, then you can just bring a rogue for lockpicky goodness

Arcane Warrior gets its skills at 7, 12, 14, and 16. Bear form comes at level 8 I believe, so you'll be playing the entire beginning with no tank and middle with just bear form. Unless you play on easy I think you're toast and even on easy I think you'll get beat down in some boss fights.

Arcane warrior is not a guarenteed have at level 7 (unless you already played through the game once) Master Summoner beefs bear form up as well. I wouldn't say it's ideal, but you should be able to pull it off.

I've never been a fan of the trinity system (even less so since watching the 4th season of Dexter, but I digress
), so I'm definitely going to try to have a 3 mage party if not a 4 mage party (ill probably mod another mage companion in if there's just 2 possible mage companions at launch.)
Remember, AI will work together to make spell combos! Epicness. And with the various specs, every party member will be able to switch between at least 2 roles.

The guy from the British event said that his party could not pick locks for squat, and that they could not open a lot of chests. He also said that their equipment was terrible. I see a cause and effect. It is my understanding that a warrior can spend points to learn rogue skills. If so, I'd grab the Dwarf, make him sword and board with lock picking and just think of his lock picking ability as a natural Dwarven affinity for mechanisms.

Not in DA:O
Unlike Baldurs Gate there is no Knock spell and you cant force open Locks.

Thanks for the feedback all!
Looks like dragging a tank along is the best way to go....or at least until the effectiveness of bear tanking is confirmed. Hope we'll be able to revisit areas to open locked chests.
Even with three mages it doesn't seem like there's enough spell picks for all those (potentially) tasty spells...sigh. Say I vaguely remember reading somewhere that there might be a.....conflict of sorts between Wynne and the Blood Mage unlock quest. Can anyone confirm?
