I believe someone brought this up before but I don't know where to look.  In Legacy, when talking with Larius he says "after 2,000 years the magic still works", or something like that.  Now the prison was established after the 1st Blight, which makes it around 1,200 years old, so nowhere near 2,000 even with rounding up.  So was he referring to something else, possibly something he gained from Corypheus' consciousness, that this location has some other significance, may be connected with the founding of the Tevinter Imperium, which would be just over 2,000 years before?

He actually says "2000 years, the magic holds", which could mean that the magic is supposed to last 2000 years, not that it was cast 2000 years ago.

Could have sworn he said "after" but in any case that would suggest the original spell came up way short. I just felt that as his thoughts were a bit incoherant at times, the odd random reference might have been thrown in by the writers as a tease concerning the location. It would certainly explain what the altar to Dumat was doing there underneath a Grey Warden prison that was supposedly constructed after they were meant to have destroyed him in the Battle of Silent Fields. Oh well, just another of those loose threads.

I interpreted it more as Larius misspeaking or an error in his dialogue. The lore you find about that prison all says it was created after the First Blight.

I think it's a mistake on the part of the writing team, and nothing more.

Chalk it up to Larius being a crazy tainted person who can't do basic math too well anymore.

Or every 400 years or so the warden's ask a mage thats not warden to infuse blood-magic to the spell to keep it hole. Like a battery charge. Thats what I think malcom did, re-charged 2000 year old spell and hawke by using the key removed the magic that was holding the prison cell.

Edit: the demons traped in the cells were feeding the spell as well, thats what Malcom did got new demons and trap them using blood magic.
