The Irrational Games Community is quite nice - the aesthetic to the website is pleasing, and there's generally a more thoughtful community there than what you might find elsewhere. Frictional games was nice due to the more tightly knit sense you got from those forums. It was less like a crowd and more like a small group.

I'd like to second this actually.. I do lurk there from time to time... I simply like that the people there generally seem quite intelligent and "rational" (sorry :P)... Never post though... no clue why.

Their "Irrational Podcast" that they have every few months is also wonderful.. people should go listen to them, they're always talking with actual game developers and all the media-BS you hear in typical interivews is non-existent... straight talk with actual game devs.... wonderful listening.

I check Bethesda and Obsidian forums once in a while, for obvious reasons, even though most of their games have decent threads here as well in the off topic section.

For general pc gaming news I look up gamestar.de on a daily basis, but that's it about gaming related stuff.

GamerswithJobs - with a few exceptions, people there are helpful if you have a question and are reasonably respectful during debates.  Moderators are more lenient on political/religious discussions, but do a better job of kicking out trolls than BSN; also appreciate the "spoiler" option in the forums.

And, since you said to exclude only Facebook and Twitter, BabyCenter (sure to be of interest to this crowd :P) - sorts and updates group information in a very user-friendly interface.

I enjoy BSN for the most part, but it could really use either more moderators (and/or more tough-love ones) or an "ignore user" option.

Four or five highly active per specific forum would be great.  Ten if they're only semi-active.

EpicBattleCry and this Site basically. I'm pretty vocal on some Gametrailer video's sometimes, but that's on a rare occasion, hahaha.

Honestly, the BSN is the only social/gaming site I am active on. I just don't feel the need to be on some place else. I find this a good place to meet people, find out info on some of the best video games and upcoming ones, discuss them with fellow gamers, and also more often than not discuss things that are beyond bizarre *laughs* :-D

I usually only post here, but I do a lot of reading at both Authonomy and RationalWiki. I also visit the KOTOR modding section of Lucasforums from time to time.

*Sheds a few tears for Tech TV* I still miss the Screen Savers (back when Leo LaPorte and Patrick Norton hosted). Bloody G4 takeover. :P

You can still find Leo here http://twit.tv/
And Norton does some things on Revision3 http://revision3.com/hdnation and some other places.

I do miss that old screensavers and the shows around that time. I built built my first trash PC just to break and fix things when I discovered that channel. No Idea that channel exsisted and just stumbled upon it.

Other then here there is a sports forum I frequent and on occasion flow thru some PC help forums. I pass thru other game forums if needed. Tech help, look to see if they have a mod section, send my praise because i like the game but that is rare.

Bethesda forums and Irrational are both great. SWTOR forums are okay in small doses.

I occasionally lurk on the Escapist, which seems to have a weird balance of over and under moderation. I go there for the content, even if i only like some of it.

Hmmm. Dresden Files forums, about once a week.

Other then that, the forum in my sig. Which was a group on the bsn until we got tired of the group function on the bsn and the leader of the group decided a forum elsewhere would be better. Like it there. Small community, but it feels like more of a community then any other site i have been on.

As for functions i wouldn't mind this site adopting, the threads in TCR (forum in my sig) remember where the last post of a thread was when you were last in it. So when going back to a thread after signing out, you don't have to find your place again. Don't know whethwer or not that would be feasible for a site this big, though.

Basically, same as AntiChri5, for me.

And I dislike everything facebook or twitter. The only reason I even have a twitter account is because some news is only on there. But I only take a look every few months or so, when I have a good reason too.

This community is pretty good but two things stand out that are not good in my opinion.
1) Poor searching capabilities. 2) Poor trouble maker reporting and banning capabilities. You need to either up the number of moderators you have significantly or find a better, quicker reporting process for bad behavior.

The featured projects part of the site was very much wasted as it never got updated and anything worthwile custom content, module, art work etc just often went by the wayside.

This is so true. This whole BSN idea could have been a good one, but the execution is very severly lacking.

I really REALLY miss the atmosphere that was around on the old boards. When there were discussions with the occassional derailing, but not as many trolls, wars and idiot behaviour.

hmm.

I mostly do a blogroll cruise (primarily book and author related, with only a few gaming articles), and then hang out at the same forum AntiChri5 does.

I'd probably be here much more often if BSN had:

New Post function on threads. (The old bioboards had it, I used it, it was great, I could pop back into a thread from wherever I'd been last instead of guessing, skipping, or giving up, which are my current options.)
Actual Moderators who have permission/authority to actually keep up with the issues and do something about them.
A functional search engine.
A subscription feature that wasn't buried under three other menus and really hard to find. (Maybe put your subscriptions right on your home? That'd be nice.)

GameFAQs- I love helping those out in need about something, and so long as you stay away from the flamebait topics you'll see that it has a really good and likable community, espescially for some of those more niche obscure games like Skies of Arcadia.
Equestria Daily- Easily one of the best brony sites. I rarely comment there but most everyone there are good people.

ohnotheydidnt at livejournal -- the only gossip site I bother with. It's all community generated content, and the commentary is often hilarious and sometimes legendary.

The Something Awful forums -- mostly the games and television subforums.

Google+ -- I really do love the randomness of my stream nowadays. It gives me my fill of Occupy Wall Street info, and cat gifs.

I hang out at the GOG forums, since I've bought quite a number of their good old game titles. The subforums for any particular game are generally the best source of info for these games since they're quite old and usually have very few people playing them anymore.

I also frequent the boards of my favorite NWN server, World of Greyhawk. While I don't get on the server and play all that much anymore, there is a great community of people there and we still talk NWN builds as well as many other topics. A number of the people there are from the old BioWare boards as well.

Lastly, I also check out the motherboards and hardwarecanucks forums. These are tech sites that I often use for advice when I have a computer problem that I can't figure out, and they also keep me up to date on what's going on in the constantly changing world of computer hardware.

I most often frequent the Steam community forum because I own hundreds of games on Steam and like to talk about them! There's also a lot more activity on their forum than what we have here.

As a long standing member of the Tech TV forum and who had his account banned in advance on the G4TTV forum (how long that name stayed lol) given his protest on the merger *which my and others predictions were correct* and the fact only two of the original shows from both networks are still left I will have a rational well reasoned debate with you.

Ah who am I kidding

I STAB AT YEE YOU WHITE WHALE YOU AND YER BELOVED G-4 *Ahab yell*

Though from what I've seen of G4 as of late, if you call reruns of cops, and other shows Gaming, then yeah I agree.

im mostly there for sessler's soapbox.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Keep it coming.

As a reminder, there is more to "community" than forums. If there is a website you enjoy hanging out at because they keep you informed well or entertained beyond simple marketing, poitn that out as well. Thanks. :)
