I'm glad they don't. Playing circus gets old after a while. (But I still dig this Harlequin outfit)
There is a mod that makes Hawke and Isabela throw daggers in combat, if you're interested.

Now that you mention that i came to wonder why it is all enemy mages have such wicked spells but all are so squishy.Gervaise wrote...
Both Isabella and Zevran are shown in cut scenes as throwing daggers. I wasn't aware that Tallis was actually doing it in gameplay. Still Hawke has the advantage of being able to do archery as well as dual wielding and a bow does a hell of a lot more damage than a dagger. Then again, other mages appear to be able to disappear and relocate in another location, which as far as I am aware neither Hawke or companions can do. Some people have obviously received a different training - makes sense I suppose.

But game-play wise, it was probably done because they could. Don't really care, it's not like it's a powerful attack (or so I remember...)

Isabela has. Has she not? In the trailer, I think in a cut scene somewhere too....
She sticks one of Hayder's companions with a throwing dagger when they meet in the Chantry.

In fact Tallis' throwing daggers do about 15% less damage per hit than melee daggers of an equal level.

As for teleporting mages, it's a game-mechanic and not a lore fact. If you read the codex about magic, mages aren't supposed to be able to teleport ANYWHERE. Because Thedasian Magic is not "a cure all", which is why the DA world is low-fantasy instead of high.

Well, it's good that they aren't in fact teleporting then, if you go to the brecillian forest with Wynne (or Morrigan?) in DA:O they will explain that the Hermit uses illusions that looks like teleporting, i suspect this will be the explanation you'll get for the Kirkwall mages too.Heidenreich wrote...
No she throws her dagger, she doesn't throw throwing daggers (In reference to Isabela).

Edit: And as far as gameplay teleportation is concerned, both Merrill's Stone's Throw spell, and the rogues' Back-to-Back ability seem to involve teleporting. Backstab in general does too. It's just a combat thing.

If the warrior ever got a talent like it it'd prolly be super speed, ala Meredith's jump of fate in the end.

Velanna also seems to teleport, in a nature-y way. In cutscenes.

Merrill stone thrown spell makes her move through the undeground so far as I remember. I supect that Velanna's was the same spell as it looked the same.

Plus, when you throw daggers, you won't always hit with the blade, they can break, you are far more likely to miss than with an arrow, and finally, you're throwing a perfectly good weapon away. WHY?!
(BTW, I may just have used realism to describe a fantasy land with dragons, elves, magic, and BFS. YMMV.)

Huh, I imagine the non-Dalish mages probably move in a similar way then. But with fewer plants involved.

Am I the only one here that a) Killed that slaver guy that had Feynriel andKilled Javaris? Because daggers were thrown then, and the first example was rogue-only, and also freaking awesome.

When I did my first rogue playthrough with the slaver that took Feynriel, I man squeed like mad when he get the airborne murder knife.
Honestly, I like how certain classes get moments of awesome like that. I really enjoyed playing a warrior and HawkePunching the hunger demon in the deep roads too.
