When you're connected to the servers certain information gets updated automatically, at least that's how things are supposed to work. Amongst that info are your character portraits in DAO and DA2. This is all dependent on the rather temperamental nature of the EA servers, which, quite frankly, no-one here has a solution to for obvious reasons.
