There seems to some extremely annoying bugs with the Human Noble/Arl Howe dialogue in Eamon's estate and during Rescue the Queen. I've read online a few times that you can declare yourself the teyrn of Highever (sadly the player doesn't choose the option in the video, but it's still there) when you enter dialogue with Loghain and Howe, yet this option has NEVER appeared for me on any of my many playthroughs as a Human Noble.

Furthermore, I have NEVER once gotten the dialogue where Howe viciously mocks your family in the dungeon of his estate. Both of these lines not appearing in the game seriously cripples the dramatic potential of the scenes they're in - I'd like to know WTH is the deal and why I can never get these important lines of dialogue to appear.

To get Howe to insult your family, you have to pick specific dialogue choices, I believe.

And that specific dialogue with Loghain only appears if you do NOT request an audience with him at Ostagar.

Actually, it has to do with the initial meeting in Denerim after the landsmeet is called. If you do not reveal who you are and ask for revenge, you get that line in the vanilla game, though it actually is supposed to appear if you DO confront him there.

Sounds like some bad flags in the dialogue, then. That seriously pisses me off, as both of those dialogues were essential to their respective scenes - and them not being there when they should be sort of ruins the experience for me.

You become Teryn of Gwaren, not Highever, that's Fergus' place

This is before Fergus is revealed to be alive, so as far as you know, you are the rightful Teryn of Highever.

By the time you're allowed to ask for the boon of wealth and power Fergus has already arrived back.

Oh, the wrong defined flag was used -- that happens a lot in the game actually.  I strongly suspect that the people who coded the flags did not do the data entry (I'd actually be surprised if they did).  I'm smacking myself for looking it up though because I think my fix only fixed it for males so I have to release an update.

This topic is about a dialogue earlier in the game, at the start of the Landsmeet plot, where you can introduce yourself as the Teyrn of Highever to Loghain and Howe. At that point in time, Fergus' fate is still unknown, leaving you as the only heir. And of course you do not become the Teyrn of Highever just by picking that dialogue option: It is meant as a verbal challenge to Loghain and Howe.

I'm curious, do you mean the Loghain/Teyrn of Highever dialogue or the Howe/Dungeon dialogue?

And while I have your attention, thanks for ZDF!  I wish I could tinker with the toolset a bit, but I'm not buying Windows just for it... <_<

She means the bit in the dungeon, I think.

Still, I find it bothersome that Loghain would act like he doesn't know you if you don't introduce yourself at Ostagar - yet he recognizes you as Bryce's son/daughter if you do introduce yourself. It makes no sense.

Aye... and at Ostagar he even recognizes you if you do not mention your name and deny you two ever met (saying that he always remembers a face). That, and Cailan calls you lady/lord of Highever while Loghain is present.

I guess you could see the Denerim dialogue as an insult, with Loghain pretending not to know you, and calling a former noble a stray dog... but then human nobles should get this dialogue no matter what, and not the boring and generic Grey Warden line.

Ah, I completely forgot about that part. He does indeed call you a lord of Highever during the meeting just prior to the battle. I suppose it could indeed be perceived as an insult then that he "fails" to recognize you at Eamon's estate.

Still, I wish that bit where Howe mocks your family wasn't flagged incorrectly. That line made the scene infinitely more powerful and made me want to kill the rotten bastard that much more - and would've made his death that much more satisfying, as well.
