I just finished my first playthrough in that amazing DLC. Though, I am wondering as to the point of Hard to Stomach's significance. Does it do anything special or is it there for humor value?

Also, I am not sure if anyone can answer this, but is there a reason as to why Merrill doesn't have a specific mission like everyone else?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Would be nice if it nerfed Leo but I think its there for the lols. Be nice if it was introducing a more interactive system of crafting beyond finding herbs. I like this method better than clicking on a campfire ala NewVegas or DA2 Dominoes.
Merril has no real history with Orlaise or the Wardens (legacy) beyond having met Duncan once or being part of the Elf Warden's clan (read as from same town). There may be a minor quest like the Anders feather. I took her once, but kept saying "I don't know why you brought me along I will probly only mess things up". I took the hint and dropped her for Issy at the point of no return.

If you successfully taint Leopold's food, he'll glow green for a small portion of the battle and will pretty much stay in place. This will allow your party to get a couple of good hits in.

So thats what was happening! Would have been funnier if he had sprayed poop on some Guards and Qunari, but good that it had an effect.

I missed that completely, I must have messed up the recipe. Thank you both for helping me out, it is something to look for in my next play through.

I wondered why the heck I'd care to poison the poor thing's food when I went past the kitchen. It seemed totally out of nowhere to assume that I'd be fighting him later.

I did notice when Prosper mentioned Leopold being "sluggish", though since that battle is pretty lengthy, I didn't notice any major effect.

You're trying to steal a valuable jewel from an orlesian Duke with a wyvern as a guarddog. You're better safe than sorry. Poison that beast!

If you were able to combine the 3 things and then place it in the bag of food then you didn't mess up.  I don't think it will let you combine unless you get the right amount of each.

"Right amount" is variable, too, so don't stress over it. You just need Fennel > Lutefisk > Cheese, so you can have 5 fennel or 30 and still get the right mix (I don't think it lets you add 30, of course, but you get the idea).

I took Merrill just to hear what she has to say.

"How did you escape?  Was it exciting?  Did you shank someone?"

Ahh, Merrill.  So cute even when talking about violence.

Merrill: I like caves!
Hawke: No, merrill. You don't...
