Critical chance BUG???

I think that information about critical chance (%) which is show in character screen (show damege/penetration/critical) is bugged. For main character ONLY crit chance of the weapon is shown, not modified by dextereity or cuning or active fighting mods. For other characters it's look ok. For example the same Iron dager in my character's hand show 2% crit; in hand of other rogue 5% crit (main statistics of my character and other rogue are the same).
Why? I've just installed patch 1.01b. Nothing was changed. Problem is still here. Anyone has the same problem? Do you know how to report that problem to Bioware? Or fix it? :crying:
Waiting for any suggestions. I have english PC version of DA:O.

I've noticed this problem too. Curious.... Can anyone have a look and confirm if that is the case?



I'm also on hte patch 1.01b - might it be a problem with this patch itself?

Also, maybe related or unrelated. Set bonuses now no longer showing on followers (no icon or visible increase in defense/attack/whichever set is supposed to improve). I am actually reinstalling the game right now to see if it makes any difference.

Item set bonuses do not display in camp.

Crit chance looks fine here... Using the same weapons (red steel daggers):

22.2 / 22.2 on my PC ( Lethality, Dual Weapon Expert, Assassin)
3.0 (Base) + 4,2 (Weapon) + 10 (Lethality) + 2.5 (Assassin) + 2.5 (DW Expert) = 22.2

19.7/19.7 on Zevran (Lethality,Assassin)
3.0 (Base) + 4,2 (Weapon) + 10 (Lethality) + 2.5 (Assassin) = 19.7

Hi J.O.G,

Are you on patch 1.01b?

I checked the item set bonuses outside of camp (Soldier's Peak map). Was not showing for my Alistair who is in full "Effort" set. Neither was it showing for Oghren in full "Legion" set.

My PC critical chance is only 2.55% - base chance of the equipped two handed greatsword (Starfang).

Reinstalling the game OR disabling all DLCs did not solve the problem as well. Really strange.

I checked back all the way on my previous saves till Level 1 and realised that my PC never had the 3% base critical chance at all? Stranger still.

Still have a problem with crit chance. But I checked another hero (6 lvl rogue) a little bit further in the plot. For him crit chance looks better (some addition to the base weapon crit) but only for melee weapon. Nothing chancge with bows. Another thing is that I cheched it for enchanted dagger (+4 attack) and only typical elm bow. Maybe some "typical" equipment (means non magial) have this bug problem?
Anyone knows somomne form Bioware who I can send the message about this annoying bug?

I also checked another character of mine - critical chance is correct for that character.

This character was created post patch, whereas my bugged character was created pre-patch.
Both were created with the in-game character creation interface (not the character creator).
I've got a feeling that this is the case with MMSmolar's characters as well - MMSmolar, could you confirm?

There doesn't seem to be any mention of this in the patch notes anywhere as well.

Can any Bioware tech/rep please reply on this - this does feel like an annoying bug as it does cripple the PC in comparison to party NPCs/critters somewhat.

Should there be no official/foolproof fix for this, would appreciate if there was a tip somewhere which we'll be able to use toolset/console to readd the critical base chance.

I have the same problem except its only with bows oddly enough. weapons are fine. I am also patched to 1.01b

I confirm what you recognize. I try to make my hero via character creator and then see if something will happen.

Looks like that's the likely cause then. Characters created before the patch using the in-game character creation screens don't have the 3.0% base critical chance applied.

That doesn't stop it being a bug though. Would be grateful if there was any official channel for bug reports such as this or at least some confirmation that this is an issue - or better yet, a fix that doesn't involve creating a new character from scratch or manually editing every single save game.

Are you looking at the right place?
Total critical hit chance displays in the tooltip to your weapon damage not on the weapon itself.

Everyone has 3% + the weapon's critical hit modifier.

Dual Wielders can get +2.5% from Dual Weapon Expert

Rogues can get +10% from Lethality
And if they specialize as Assassin they get another +2.5%

There is no attribute bonus.

Here is my character, not equipped with anything at all. As you can see, no base 3.0% critcal chance.

It seems that the problem only occurs with characters created in-game, before patching

Somehow it got magically fixed after the patches though there's no mention on the patch notes anywhere. I know this because all characters i created after patching have the 3% base critical chance.

same here... was trying do build up a dual wielding critical hit fighter but after a few hours i noticed that everyone had a higher crit rate than my main char, thats quite frustrating. Char was created with 1.01a Patch...

Edit: Installing 1.01b did not fix it. Even with fresh chars

I have a rogue, created pre-patch (first character actually), dual-wielding human noble rogue, had no crit issues ever.

Sorry to bump, but this is the only thread I could find discussing this issue.



Some of my characters are suffering from this problem too. My oldest character from version 1.0 has the 3% base critical chance, but several newer characters created variously in 1.01, 1.01b, 1.02 and 1.02a all have a 0% base critical chance. Companions are unaffected, only the main character has 0%



I'm not using any unofficial mods, so that is not the source of the problem.



Has anyone found a way to fix this yet?

I've done more testing to try to understand the scope of this issue.



In my previous post, I was incorrect when I said that my first character from version 1.0 had the proper critical chance. I had neglected to remove certain equipment that was affecting the critical chance. When I removed *all* equipment, I found that even the old character from 1.0 had a 0% base critical chance. So in reality, all my characters from all patches have the 0% hit chance. There is at least one character that was created in each version of the game (1.0, 1.01a, 1.01b, 1.02 and 1.02a) and all of them have this problem.



Critical chance bonuses (from things like Dual Wield Expert, Lethality and Song of Courage) are all applying correctly, but they're just being added on to a 0% base instead of a 3% base. So it's not like the whole critical hit system is broken, it just appears that the base chance is wrong.



I have also tried uninstalling then reinstalling the game. It has not helped. I've tried creating new characters on a fresh install, I've tried importing characters from the Character Creator, I've tried loading up old characters, and I've checked old saves from various points throughout the game. In every single instance, the main character always has a base critical chance of 0%.

Have to revise my posting from back then.

In that savegame my char had Combat Movements (+2% crit) and Coup De Grace (+1% crit) but Zevran didn't have either. Since those bonuses aren't documented, I assumed my char had the same base 3% as everyone else...

The fix do not work for a new character created in Dragon age awakening but old character imported from origins seem to have the fix. Can the script also modified for new game characters in Awakening?
