I have a theory that BW will do something like Virmire, but with planets.  Save Earth or save the Citadel. What do you guys think?

Earth has a bigger population, doesn't it?

Therefore, earth.

The one that has the larger populace. But if they are somewhat equal, the obviousely Earth. The Citadel you can build something similar. But Earth....you cant replace that.

Edited it a bit after I thought about it. Question still stands.

I would save Citadel if Earth would be beyond repopulating and I would put so much effort into making Eden Prime humanity new home.
But on the other hand I always could screw Citadel and save Earth.

My final verdict is Citadel.

I didn't think of species, but I'm pretty sure the total population of earth is bigger than the total population of the citadel.

If that is not the case, I'd save the citadel.

Citadel. The place is really important for all species not just humans.
If earth is plowed over and the reapers are destroyed people can rebuild. Without a council, Reapers, or proper goverment earth won't stand a chance against Geth, Raiders or the other races. There could be war because everyone will see an oppertunety for power thanks to the citadel, the previous galactic law, has been destroyed.

Citadel. It's the largest connection of all relays, losing it would be losing the one key factor that's holding the universe. Use Earth as an icon and move on.

Earth. Not only does it have a higher population, but in the end, the Citadel is a Reaper artifact. For all we know it could have a big red self-destruct button waiting for some Indoctrinated agent to push.

The question becomes more difficult if we start looking at the home planets of other races, but even there I probably pick Earth. Humanity has had interstellar travel for less than 3 decades, which means the vast majority of the human population is concentrated on Earth - unlike other species which are spread out over more colony worlds with higher populations. Lose Earth and humanity is in trouble as a species.

Earth. I don't care what logic says, or what politicians will claim for the next few centuries. Shepard is a human, and humanity comes first. I couldn't possibly convince myself any other species is as important as my own when it comes to mass genocide.

No matter which Shep I use, the mentality is the same going in: Earth must be saved, every other priority comes second. I just can't imagine my Shepards thinking otherwise.

You lose the Citadel, you could very well lose the war.

We can just close the Citadel's arms so it won't be hard to keep it safe.

Lose the Earth. We can always go back to repopulate it since we have a pool of billions of humans on other planets and colonies.

It's not like Reapers glass the planet before they leave, they only take what sentient life is on the surface. Leaving everything else pretty much intact in terms of ecosystem.

The Citadel races, bulk of the Citadel fleet, and the human fleets are concentrated around the Citadel. We have the best chance of winning as long as we maintain the center of all mass relay traffic.

Remember that only 2% of humans actually enlist into the Alliance Navy (compared to 100% conscription of Turians in their navy) which is why humans are both admired and feared for still being a powerful military force despite this. Lose earth, we can simply bring buff up our enlist ratio to 20% and still be a dominant military.

Im sure 500 reapers can deal with the closed arms of the Citadel.

I've wanted to abandon that thing since we discovered it was the primary invasion tool. If the Keepers can be re-programmed once they can again.

If destroying the Citadel means all the mass relays become unusable however I'd have to go with saving the Citadel.

I'll be honest, I'd sacrafice Earth every runthrough, every time - without fail. It does not matter Paragon or Renegade.

Good point! Losing the Citadel and losing the chance for mass relay traffic was partly cause to prothean extinction..

The Citadel. It's controlling the mass relay network.

Earth is just a big rock with nothing that puts it on the top priority of everything.

There are so many factors in that decision. Like others have brought up, does the mass relay network continue working without the Citadel? We might need to hold that if we have any hope of keeping up with the Reapers.

I only care about humanity. If humanity dies out then the Citadel and the rest of the galaxy may as well be wiped out, anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

The Citadel should be destroyed, rather than risk it falling into Reaper hands.

If this disables the mass relay network, that's even better.  The relay network is a trap, allowing the Reapers to destroy us swiftly.

On the other hand destroying it is a trap also because now you're open to being picked off system by system, just like the Protheans.

That's why the citadel must be protected. After the protheans lost the Citadel they where left defenceless. The reapers wiped them out planet for planet untill they where all gone. We don't want that to repeate itself. There are more colonies/Planets with humans on them, but only one citadel. That place goes not only earth, but every other colony out there are left defenceless.

As for the trap stuff, that worked for a while with the help of the keepers. The keepers broke free of the reapers and stoped activating the trap. Thanks to the prothean data we have broken of the reapers abilety to use the citadel as a trap. Now its just a bloody powerful masseffect controllcenter. Under human controll if you kill of the council...

I say let the earth go for the sake of the rest of humanity.
