I think the idea of telling different stories with different protagonists within Thedas is cool.  However, I'm not entirely happy with how things have gone thus far.

The Warden has a few different endings.  The US has closure (though Awakenings didn't respect it).  The DR endings though feel unfinished to me.  Now I'm not in general opposed to "and the hero wandered off" endings where it leaves it to you, the gamer, to finish.  But the problem with that in DAO with regards to DR is I specifically wanted feedback from the game on the consequences of my decision and never got them.

So there are two separate issues here.  1) Are new protagonists fine? Yes.  2) Has the Warden's post-DAO life, assuming no US, been dealt with adequately?  I don't think so.

Granted that could all change if there's some compelling reason for the disappearances, but I have no way of knowing if that will ever happen.

I'll tell you after I've seen what kind of character BW will cook up for DA3.

My warden is around level 30. Hawke is somewhere between 20 and 30. No. Don`t want to start off with anything like that in a new game.

Just in terms of what I'd like to see, I'm reminded of the format of the fourth "Dragon Quest" game: each chapter had its own protagonist and story (ie: chapter 1 is about a knight looking for kidnapped children, chapter 4 is about two sisters questing to avenge their father), and in the final chapter they all come together to save the world.

A party consisting of the Warden, Hawke and whoever else will be featured in future games? Yes please! :)

I love the idea. :happy:
But:
1. it would be incredibly hard to write a proper story for it
2. it would be incredibly hard to write and not make fans angry
3. it would be incredibly hard to write and make it as enjoyable to new players as to veterans
4. how would the three PCs interact with each other? How and to what extent would you control the PCs? In combat there's no problem, but how do you tell a dialogue-driven story when you control all three of them?
5. and a lot of problems and questions that I haven't even thought about

If Bioware could pull it off, I'd buy it instantly. But sadly I think it's unrealistic.:mellow:

A new protagonist only works if the old one's is _properly_ over or he returns to be playable. If the Warden returns as playable, it'll be good; if not, it'll be bad. I cling to my Warden more than to any new protagonist or Hawke, mostly because his and precious Morrigan stories are not finished yet :-)

As long as I don't have to play Hawke and they get rid of that idiotic ME chat cycle + voice thing, I'll be happy.

But I'd be even happier if I got to play my voiceless Warden.

1. I'm assuming the writers already have some kind of endgame scenario in mind given all the foreshadowing with Flemeth, Sandal, Morrigan and so on - it's just a question of whether they can come up with a threat that would require all the great heroes of the previous games to join up.
2. Eh, some fans will be angry at anything for any reason. That's no reason to balk. :)
3. Actually, I would think they'd just do what they did in DA2: either import your own characters or choose presets (ie: Mage Warden, Viscount Hawke, etc.)
4. What they did in DQ4 was after every hero had his chapter, they introduced one final protagonist who gathered all the rest. So this game would probably have some new character pick up the Warden, Hawke and whoever else is needed, and you'd interact with them as party members.

I'll agree it's unlikely - if only because the DQ4 format isn't one that's been "proven" insofar as sales are concerned (seeing as how it hasn't been used very often) - but that would indeed be a fun way to wrap the ongoing story. :)

Bad thing. I do feel that things started with specific character should be closed with the same one.
-> Morrigans godchild/Flemeth, Warden.
-> mage/templar issue, Hawke.

Definitely a good idea, a large world, covered from multiple angles allows the player to see much more of the world. Having a single character, especially a Grey Warden, would trap the story in a tunnel and it would be a waste to design this world, just to ignore it.

I have no problem with multiple protagonists, assuming Bioware clip off everything relating to a previous Character as they progress.

I have no issue with main plot lines being left open for future heroes, things like the Dark Ritual Baby ( If it exists ) and the Impending Magical War. But i HATE 30 second roles from previous companions/characters that could easily be filled by a lesser NPC.

By all means, bring back previous characters as Companions, Major Plot Characters, Villains, Heroes, Giant Monkey Weasels from Mars. As long as there is a genuine reason and they're there for something that is ACTUALLY IMPORTANT.

Cameos, i hate them. I don't care if they reuse previous companion characters like they did Anders. I don't care if i find Sebastian as a washed up no-name Princely outlaw and he ends up my new bed warmer companion for the next game, i don't care if i find Shale as a dwarf with a shaven head crusading across the land to murder all the birds, joining you in an attempt to further her cause. But Tyr Almighty. Drop the cameos. T_T

All in all, bring on the protagonists, bring on the new abominations you call companions! Just don't ask me to play a game that is trying to constantly make me hate the last one.
