I'm having the strangest problem downloading Awakening on my laptop. I bought it on Origin and downloaded it easily, but then Dragon Age wouldn't play. Somehow, downloading Awakening had uninstalled my game. So I reinstalled it and went back to Origin to reinstall Awakening, but it said it was already installed. I looked online and saw that you can only download Awakening *before* the 1.04 patch. So, since I had already installed said patch, I decided to uninstall Dragon Age Origins (I kept all of my saved games, of course.) Before I uninstalled it, it asked me if I wanted to keep some random files in a location that I couldn't find, so I picked yes just in case. (I don't know if this is relevant to my problem, but I thought I should include it.) Anyway, after I reinstalled it I tried downloading Awakening again. Nothing happened. It says it's ready to download on Origin, but it stops almost immediately after it starts. There's no error message or anything, just a window that pops up for half a second but disappears almost immediately. And before you direct me to Origin technical support, I have been trying to get help from them for days and they always tell me to do the same thing. It never works. I've tried uninstalling Origin and Dragon Age about a million times. I've taken down my firewall. I've deleted the download cache on Origin. Can anyone help me with this? If not, is there any way I could get a different Awakening even though I bought it online? Or can I at least get a refund?

I bought my awakening true the link here on BSN, downloaded it to my hard drive and installed it, whit out problems. But it's some time ago, I don't use Origin, my self at all.

I seam to recall something about all sales are final, and there can't be any refunds.

Alternative there is the ultimate edition shelf version, but it's kind of wrong if you have to pay for something you have already paid for.

You are not the only one having problems with Origins help desk, I have on four occasions asked for help and never revised anything useful from them, which is kind of sad.

This probably not going to help you, but it is all the answers I can give at this moment, sorry.

Don't know if this is your issue, but EA says they are having trouble right now.......BF3 just launched, so they may just be swamped.

yes, Origin is having major problems right now mostly due to BF3, but it's effecting everything right now. I've been reading in the Origin help forums all day. (that's how I found the run as administrator issue fix)

OH THANK GAWD I'M NOT ALONE!  I bought Awakening this morning, thinking I'd enjoy a day off of gamin' it up. But after I purchased the expansion, I clicked the 'ready to install button'...got the spinny wheel..it 'said' installing(for about half a second) and then...*poof* ready to install.  I had their Tech support call me...The guy told me to uninstall Dragon Age Origins..then after I had uninstalled it, he said 'wait, not the game, I meant the 'program' origins...(grrr) So i uninstalled/re-installed Origin, they reset my product code for Awakening and I hit 'ready to install' and I actually got the install box...but the Tech support guy(I'll leave his name out) said not to install it w/out first re-installing the whole game...So...FIVE HOURS LATER I finally get the game back on my computer, go to install Awakening, it 'starts' to load up..then freezes up. I restarted my computer and...*poof* same problem I had earlier today. I then had their Tech support call me back and I just spent the last hour and 45min going through all the 'usual' stuff just to have the issue escellated and told I should get a response in 48-72 hours(GRRR)... I've been all over the web trying to find SOMETHING about this issue...I wish I would have found this post sooner. The first tech support guy did say that they had seen this same issue WITH BF3 but that was it.  I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that this is an issue that will(hopefully) get resolved when EA/Bioware fixes whatever they broke w/ BF3.  I'm just mad I feel like I wasted $20...not to mention my day off.

Company loves misery tho..or is it the other way around.  EITHER way..I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering the same issue...makes me feel better...somehow.

Wow someone with the same problem!!!!! I thought there was something wrong with my laptop. Origin is having so many issues, they should have just stuck with the old EA download manager. But running it as an administrator is actually working, thank you! Well, it's downloading but I don't know if it will install. This is so frustrating but thank you for your help!!!

OK well I'm one step closer. It's downloaded but it STILL ISN'T WORKING. This is utterly ridiculous. Apparently tons of people have had problems with Awakening. What is this? There should *not* be problems like this. All I'm trying to do is install a damn expansion pack. It should not be this difficult. I have seriously been looking for solutions for weeks. Someone please tell me if you know any solution for this kind of problem. According to Origin, it's downloaded and ready to play. Do I have to install it manually or something? I go to Origins and click new game and do I get a choice to play Awakening? No, of course not.

Finally found this after hours of searching the net for something concrete regarding awakening and origin problems. EA/Origin support is an utter waste of time.

I managed to download the game and it just said 'ready to play afterwards'. I thought that was odd that there was no install prompt but fired up Dragon Age anyway. Lo and behold, no sign of Awakening when i selected a new game. So i look in the Dragon age folder and see an awkening installer. I click that and nothing happens other than an error message saying Awakening has failed to install. I try running it under compatability and as admin and so on but no dice.

So, I then go back on to Origin and click uninstall and try to install it again. This just brings up the add/remove software program you can find in your control panel and there is no sign of awakening on there. Puzzling. I decide to uninstall Dragon Age altogether and try again. This time it says "ready to download" on Origin so i try that, but annoyed that i have to download awakening all over again.

I'm starting to seriously mistrust the thing by this point and have allready begun to loose my patience when suprise suprise something else happens. I click "Ready to download" it says preparing, asks me to select language, sign agreement etc, and then it stops on 0.00%. For a nano second i see what i assume is an error box to flash up but it disappears instantly giving me no clue what the error is. Origin now loops back to saying that the game is "Ready To Download" again. I decide to have one last go and try to check the error log for clues but to no avail as that wont load up correctly on the IE explorer for some reason.

Suffice to say I am now going to order a copy from play or amazon, never use origin again. I live in the Uk so i cant feasibly call them to get my money back without loosing most of it on the phone call and there is seemingly no contact e-mail either. It's pathetic quite frankly.

Keep in mind that you access Awakening through the "other campaigns" menu in DAO, not via "new game". It will not show up as a separate game at any point and must be accessed through DAO.

my copy of awakenings is exactly the same as NHartwell86, Origin says it's installed, but I cannot play it. other campaigns is grayed out and only plays origins when starting a new game. I bought Awakenings a week ago and I cannot play it. It really is an issue with the installer not working, or something.

NHartwell86, the same EXACT thing happened to me!!!! It's so ridiculous!!! I don't think I can get a refund either. I'm going to try buying it on Amazon too and hopefully it will work. At least it's not that expensive. I swear I'm never buying a game off of Origin again.

I'm getting a very similar problem. Strangely, both games installed on my desktop fine -- but on my laptop, only Origins has installed, and Awakening is failing similarly to the way the OP described.

hooray... add me to the list...

It wouldn't download for me, then after a chat with tech support I got it to install. Now I can't find any reference to it in-game. I see Awakening files in my DA:O folder but the game itself acts like it doesn't exist...

And I only bought it over the weekend which means this has been an issue for months and they keep selling it knowing full well it doesn't work (or, at least, they WOULD know if they bothered to read their own tech support forums...)

Exactly, they need to pay attention to this.
Maybe it downloaded but didn't install? That's what happened to me. I tried installing it and it failed so I just gave up and bought it at GameStop.
I'm still working on getting a refund.
This simply should not be a problem, or at least it should have been fixed as soon as it appeared.

The Live Chat tech support gave me a workaround that enabled me to actually download it but once it installed DA:O still won't recognize it.

Read the transcript of the chat here.

EDIT: This idiotic forum thing isn't posting the link, no matter how many times I try it. Just copy and paste this instead.

Okay. I was having the same/similar problem as above but some how I got it to work! I'm not sure which step actually worked but here it goes:

1. I uninstalled Dragon Age Origins and chose to save my characters.

2. I When into Program Files and deleted the 1.05 patch.

3. I re-started my laptop and downloaded DAO again...

4....3 hours later it installed fine. I downloaded DAO-Awakening again before opening DAO.

5. Awakening actually downloaded and installed! (yay)

6. I restarted my laptop again.

7. I went to play it and the Other Campaigns was 'greyed out'.

8. I found a forum from 1 year ago and followed the fix exactly.

http://social.biowar...-1806835-1.html

9. It worked and I am happily playing Awakening after 2 weeks of being frustrated.

May this help whoever needs it.

That actually did it, without even having to uninstall first. Thank you. That sure beat the suggested fix given me by EA (uninstall, bypass router, turn off all firewalls, reinstall, and apparently always play the game that way). EA's suggestion was so stupid I ignored it and even wrote back telling them how dumb it was.
