Ok then, I offer you a choice: if you had to pick between a fully voiced player character who had to use the paraphrasing system, or a non voiced player character who has access to full dialogue trees, which would you prefer? Vote as if these are your only two options, so please vote in the poll linked above, and post about which option you picked and why, in the thread below.  Feel free to make alternative suggestions, but also pick which of the above options you prefer. I will update the OP with the results each day, and will not post my opinion on this till later, to try and keep things impartial.

How it stands as of last update:

Voiced PC with paraphrasing:  344 votes 49%
Silent PC with full dialogue trees: 363 votes 51%

If you do a hypothesis test, that difference is irrelevant at the 5% confidance level, so we can say that statistically speaking, the BSN is perfectly split on this matter. Kinda funny.

Also, my opinion (didn't want to bias people earlier) : I think that having proper dialogue lines with a silent PC is by far preferable to a voiced PC. However, I could enjoy a game with a voiced PC almost as much as silent PC - what matters is the fact that we have paraphrasing. That you don't know what your character will say when you pick a dialogue option in a role playing game where that dialogue can have (or at least should have) significant outcomes on plot is unacceptable in my eyes. At the bare minimum we should be able to hover over the dialogue option and have the the actual dialogue there to read. But if you include that system, of course everyone will either be arsed to read the actual dialogue line rather than a vaguely similar paraphrase, or if too impatient to hover over the line, will skip the dialogue anyway. This kind of situation shows the redundancy of having paraphrases. They are unnecessary, and are a waste of developer resources, and as long as they are associated with the voiced PC, my vote lies with the silent PC.

Finally, if you wish to view a poll which also has a statistically significant number of votes and which is based soley on whether or not the PC is voiced, rather than looking at the dialogue system in general, you can do so here:  http://social.biowar...34/polls/23022/.  Now I would appreciate it if people can read what this poll is actually about, and appreciate the difference between the two polls, thank you.

Voted, voiced. Although I think something important was lost in the switch. The silent protagonist offered more ambiguity that allowed my imagination to have fun filling in the blanks. If they stick with a voiced protagonist (and maker I hope they do) I think the paraphrasing needs a re-haul. "Wait what did he just say!" *reload* happened too many times to count.

We already did this a month or so ago, the results were around 50/50.

For the record, voiced.

Yeah, the results are easily predictable.

And also voted voiced, I strongly prefer it and don't want to go back to silent.

Voiced. Although I would recommend the paraphrasing be more similar to how it was done in Deus Ex: HR.

@esper - yes, many times. ^_^

I voted silent...but the poll has been done before. The reason for silent I stated in the poll is because once I associate a voice with a face multiple playthroughs are troublesome for me. With a silent pc I can imagine a different voice for the new face...but with the precanned voice like Hawke's third and fourth playthrough's usually don't get finished.

Voted voiced.

Ever since Mass Effect 1 I find myself quitting on any game that doesn't have a good voice-over. The paraphrasing needs more work to make it reflect the actual words better still, but it beats silence.

I like silence, it allows me to imagine my own character far better than and voiced character can do.

how about voiced PC with paraphrases, and if the player hovers over them the full dialogue appears at the top of the screen after a few seconds?

Thats what I think we're going to get, but I was wondering if people were willing to sacrifice the voice acting to be able to see full dialogue lines.

Also, we're now at 47 votes for voiced+paraphrasing versus 26 for silent with full dialogue.
Thats 64% to 36% in favour of the voiced PC+paraphrase system.

Yes this subject has been rehashed many times but not all of us are on the forums regularly. New and returning members might want a chance to discuss it. A link to the old thread just in case you're curious what a larger sampling would look like.

There is actually a difference with this poll: its not a straight up voiced or non voiced, more based on which overall system you preferred from both games, and which feature is more important to you - is the paraphrase system poor (or good) enough for you to want prefer a silent PC (or vice versa with full dialogue and voiced).

Voted for voiced, but that was hard.

I disliked the paraphrasing... but that was mostly because it was inaccurate at some points.
Should be easy enough to do fully written out dialogue and voiced dialogue.

Voice is nice, but it's never the voice I'd have given her in my head, and she seldom says things the way I feel she should or react the way I would have chosen.

And I despise the ineffectual paraphrasing system.

I know I'm screwed and it's voice voice voice from now on, but I also know that I'll never feel as attached to someone else's character as I would have to my own character. And a voice I didn't choose saying things not the way I would have chosen will always make it someone else's character.

Ideally I'd want voiced without paraphrasing, or at very least voiced with the option to see the whole line, but of those two I'd go silent.

That said, I didn't like the camera resting on the silent PC in Origins, it felt awkward with everyone else talking and acting. Silent protagonist felt more natural to me in Age of Conan than it did in Origins, which seems wrong.
