I guess I can only post this in the off-topic section. I've never played DA:O but I hear it doesn't really make much of a difference if you don't play it before you play DA2. So, I won't be getting DA:O. What are some good reasons to buy DA2?

Some people like the faster combat and the voiced protagonist. I personally wouldn't recommend it, for many reasons. If you haven't played Origins, I imagine liking DA2 would be a lot easier, but even still I doubt you would love it.

What's a good reason to buy any game? It's something to do if you have the money and nothing else to do, so why not?
There's a demo if you're unsure though.

The banter in DA2 is amazing. I bought it recently, and liked the game quite a bit. And this is after renting Origins a few years ago, and hating it.

I'd wait for it to hit the bargain bin.
It's not a terrible game, but I wouldn't say it's a good one either. Certainly it's far below Origins.

But wait. If you have to choose, then buy Origins. It's cheaper and way better.

I pre-ordered the Signature Edition of DA2 and bought the Piggyback Collector's Edition Guide...and boy, that was a mistake. I can't get rid of that damn book...nobody wants it.

You can get DA2 for about $8 on Origin right now with some coupon code (60% off $19.99).

I guess it's over now.

It's not terrible exactly. If you didn't play and/or enjoy DAO, by all means, play DA2 and enjoy it for what it is. The biggest problem (in my not so humble opinion) people have with the game (including myself) were the huge expectations after DAO. So, you know...do it...

Or what Lord_Valandil said. Just get DAO

The demo doesn't do the game justice. I played through it once to unlock Hayder's Razor and I remember the entire time I kept face-palming and asking myself why I was stupid enough to spend $60 pre-ordering Dragon Age 2.

If you want to get it, don't spend more than $20.

You don't HAVE to have played Origins but it makes no sense to skip it when it is by far the better game. Reason to get it would you like lots of exploding bodies and ummm...  F that I don't even feel like defending that garbage anymore.

I think it's good. The companions, the dialogue and combat are all great, and I think the customisation of Hawke is great too.

It has its flaws, though if you've never played DAO, you may not notice them as much. But I'd say it's definitely worth playing. XD

If your a 360 player the price on it isn't too high, I'ld say try it out, or buy it used at game stop if your really unsure, they'll take back used games for a trade in if you don't like em. And if you like it buy the DLC to help bioware earn some cash at the very least.

Here's a good reason: it'll make you appreciate the masterpiece that was Dragon Age Origins more :P

Seriously, though, it's all an opinion-related decision. Like others have said, I would suggest playing the Demo first.

Oh, and you totally missed out on a $7.00 sale on EAO yesterday for Dragon Age 2. Should probably have checked the store

It's not as good as DA:O, but it's good enough for me. DA:O is one of the greatest games I've ever played, so it was always going to be a hard act to follow IMHO.

I will say that the DLC for DA2 is miles ahead of what was released for DA:O. Legacy and Mark of the Assassin are top-quality stuff.

Just buy it - and don't let all of the undue negative attention get to your head. Draw your own conclusions.

I agree in part. The DLC for DA: O was really half-baked and lame. And also, the marketing was just a bunch of lies, Witch Hunt was a complete rip-off.
But saying that the DLC for DA2 is top-quality stuff is going too far IMO.

Ah, I forgot to mention that if I were to get DA2, I'd probably get it for the PS3. I don't know if my computer can handle it superlatively. Also, I think I would want to own a physical copy in case one day I want to sell it.

I'll chalk that one up to opinion then, I suppose. I found them to be a cut above most DLC I've played, and especially those of DA:O.

I had a lot of fun with DA2 so I would say yes give it a go. The combat was way better than Origins but that comparison probably doesn't help you much.

If you're not sure try the demo first. It doesn't necessarily give you a big look at the story but gives you a good introduction to the combat which was just plain fun. If you do buy the main game have a look in the DA2 gameplay/strategy forums for character build and tactics info. There are some really great guides from Arelex and Suicidalbaby in particular that help a lot.

Why would you not play DAO instead, if you haven't already ?

It depends on what kind of gamer you are. The best analogy I can come up with is DAII is to DA: Origins as The Twin Snakes is to Metal Gear Solid.

I love the exploding bodies in DAII and am disappointed at the patch/game update that reduced the frequency, the game doesn't feel as fun to me anymore.

Also, since you haven't played Origins and most people disappointed were disappointed because of DAII's association with DA: Origins and how it didn't "live up to its legacy", whatever that means, you will base the game on it being a game and not whether it stays faithful to the previous game.

The DAII demo also doesn't represent the final product at all.

The feeling I'm getting here is that if I didn't play DA:O then I'll still enjoy DA2 w/o the feeling that it could've been better or it wasn't as good as the first game. How crucial is DA:O to DA2?

What about the system? If I do get DA2 it'll most likely be for the PS3 b/c my computer is a few years old and may not be able to perform well w/ newer games thanks to planned obsolescence.

My suggestion is to look around the DA2 general forums. There has been more then enough information and gamers reviews out there for you to decide.
My only recomendation would be to ignore and move past any post you see CoD crowd, Awesome button, Bioware says I hate change, console crowd, JRPG, hotrod samurai or anything similiar. Find those with actual criticisms instead of empty rhetoric.

Thank, everyone.

Is DA2 best played on PC or is it still okay to play on console?

DA: O isn't crucial at all to DAII, you'll just miss out on some references. But for me those were more like: "oh, okay" rather than something to be excited about.

For example: if you had Shale downloaded, then the barkeeper in the Hanged Man will mention that Fereldan's pigeon population has taken a dive and wonders who would go around killing pigeons.

And the only returning characters are Flemeth, who only shows up a couple times, Isabela who's gone from a npc to party member, and Merrill who was another NPC that you only met under the Dalish Elf origin.

As for system: I played the game on my 360 and it looked alright. But I also recently found out my current HDMI cable is horrible.

I just installed the PC demo to see how it looked and it actually looked a lot better than playing using my HDMI In on my Alienware M17x R3. Everything's just shinier on the PC and looks smoother.

Anyway, the console graphics are still good enough and shouldn't impact your experience with the game.

I'd say it's definitely worth buying, as I (completely subjectively, I want to point that out) found it to be (for me, personally) a better  overall experience than DA: Origins, and a more fun game to play. It has its flaws, undoubtedly, with the copy-pasted environments, and enemies teleporting in (although it can be funny, once you know where their spawn points are, to sit and watch them fade into existence in front of you).

As for the console/PC comparison, can't help you there, I'm afraid, my PC's too low spec to even run the games in the Humble Bundle... lol
