Read this. If you like that article, buy the game. It explains very clearly the good points of the game as well as the bad points.

I'd recommend buying it, not as good as DA:O but still a good game.

I recommend you NWN 2 instead of both games, or NWN1 expansion 2 if you can stand only little voice acting.

As for system: I played the game on my 360 and it looked alright. But I also recently found out my current HDMI cable is horrible.

What do mean horrible? It's a digital signal it doesn't change >.> Look here.

And no I don't recommend it go play Origins it's a much bigger game and doesn't have recycled areas...or least not as much can't remember.

Especially some of the modules at the vault and the MotB expansion for NWN2.

How blunt. xD But he asked for like, good reasons to want to buy it. The humor in the game is quite good, espescially with a sarcastic Hawke, the VA'ing is as good as ever for a BW game and the music isn't bad. Since you don't have Origins you will not notice some of the bad points of the game because you won't have been able to properly import.

I sold my copy of DA2 after playing two complete playthroughs. I was overall very disappointed with the game and I thought that it was superficial and lackluster.

Dragon Age: Origins on the other hand, if you can bare with the slow combat is an amazing and deep experience. I plan on making a couple of more playthroughs later this year :)

Well, I don't really see why you would like to play DA2 without having played DA: Origins first...my bet is on Origins. It has a deep, moving story, it's a game that has been made with passion and this shows in every little detail. The areas are varied, the quests intuiging (especially the personal quests of your companions), the game in itself is HUGE, the customisation is great, the armours all have unique designs (no armours only restricted to specific characters, in short, no upgrade crap), more spells and talents than in DA2, more unique environments (no recycled sh*t) etc, etc...I could go on and on, but in the end, it is YOU who has to decide whether to buy DA2 or not. In any case, have fun! :)

DA2 is good on some levels and bad on others. the same as DA:O. it is better than DA:O in my opinion because the combat is not boring and the companions had real story arch's to them. DA:O is your generic 'save the world" story which I have gotten tired where as DA2 is very different. however there are better games you could buy like Deus Ex Human Revolution.(do NOT get on the Skyrim bandwagon btw)

I wouldn't recommend buying it. Try it, if you like it, go for it. If you don't, then don't.

buy cheapest copy you can find even if used the game is horrible but would say you need to get at least one save game to transfer to DA3 maybe Bioware will make DA3 a better game since DA2 was a major disappointment get DAO its a outstanding game

Cerebral?  I'm not sure what that reviewer was on when she was writing this.  Maybe just so darn psyched that she thought the game was an advertisement for political liberalism.  I guess it doesn't take much to impress someone who believes her biases are being stroked.

OP, if you can get it cheap, it's worth playing through at least to see it.  I would give the opposite advice of the review.  Don't think too much about it, and you might enjoy it.

What? Seriously?
The combat bore me to death, with those waves and waves of generic enemies which took endless hits to die.
And the companions...well, to each their own, I didn't hate them but I prefer the companions from Origins. I'm not sure what are you trying to say with "real story archs", and perhaps Origins didn't have the most original story ever...but at least it made sense, unlike DA2, which is a disjointed mess without focus.
That's just my opinion, if you prefer DA2, that's fine. Nothing wrong with that.

I most certainly wouldn't recommend it, at least not before having played Origins. Without having experienced the adventure before it, DAII would feel empty... soulless... even more so than if you did indeed play Origins.

I'd even go so far as to say that fond memories of Origins are the only reason one should even consider coming close to DAII, and even then I'd still recommend staying away from it, if only to preserve those memories.

get it when it's super cheap. Or rent it, and finish it over a weekend. The DLC for the game has been some of Bioware's finest, unfortunately playing it means you have to pay for the less-than-stellar base game. Which is not as bad as some people make it out to be, but it's not exactly notable either. It's a pretty solid 6/10. It's not the 0 to 4/10 that some people rated it.

And that review above which was gushing about the characters and "middle-class liberalism"...the writer puts way more emphasis on those themes than the game itself does. If someone read that and thought "this is a game I must buy!" I think they'd be pretty disappointed.

Haha. 6/10 is actually pretty harsh. I gave it a 7 out of 10, or a solid 9 out of 10 if Legacy and Mark of the Assassin were free.

I've chosen DA2. Now the rest of the thread can be dedicated to praise and criticism of my decision.
