You can edit your save file very quickly to get the same effect. Open a current save with Malcom's Honor equipped in PyGFF and expand SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR (twice) and then SAVEGAME_EQUIPMENT_ITEMS below that.
The first entry should be the staff. Find and select ITEM_PROPERTIES, click "Add" in the lower-left, and assign a value of 8000 to the newly added line. Repeat this with the PROPERTY_POWERS line, except set the value to 1065353216.
For the next two lines, EFFECTID and VFXID, add a value of -1.
File -> Save, and reload your game.
