Picking up the game finally to redo on the xbox since i moved to the 360 from the PS3 so i can finally get back into DAII since its been months since i touched DAII and that was on PS3 :(. Anyhow instead of replying to my old thread i thought i would make a new one since it was over 3 months and i know some forum moderators hate Necro-posting.

Race: Human
Primary Specialization: Blood Mage
Secondary Specializations: Spirit Healer and Keeper?
Romance Interest: Morrigan

Looks pretty solid, though unless that you want Animate Dead for rp purposes I'd recommend you ditch it. It's useless on console since you can't set up the animated corpse's tactics and you have to reactivate it each time you enter a new area. Also ditch Staff Focus and Arcane Mastery, they're not really worth it.

Seeing as you are focusing on pure damage you should consider investing up to Affliction Hex, it will greatly help you to clean up mobs faster and increase your elemental damage.

You don't need Affliction Hex to wipe the floor with any group as long as you have Fireball and the three cone spells (Flame Blast, Shock, Cone of Cold). Not to mention the guy's a Blood Mage, so he gets Blood Wound on top of everything. Note that it only takes around three nukes to kill the average monster so stopping to cast Affliction Hex will in fact only slow down his killing speed (you can try and figure out the numbers yourself, it takes a while for Affliction Hex to be worth a single nuke casting). Affliction Hex is for those people who use DoT spells like Blizzard, Inferno, Storm of the Century, etc. He has none of these.

Survivability can be an issue if you stick to that type of gear though, this build is a glass cannon until you get Keeper. You were wise to get Arcane Shield and Rock Armor, but these spells work best when paired with defensive gear/accessories (+dodge or defense gear like Reaper's Vestments, etc). Spirit Healer would complement this build well. Ditto Arcane Warrior.

Staff Focus and Arcane Mastery are worth it if your spell selection already has everything you need. There's little need to spam CC's or play defensively if you play an aggressive nuker mage - by the time your mage is through everything besides the boss/elite should be dead/dying. You'll also be casting nukes nonstop  - Fireball + the three cone spells have low enough cooldowns that you can spam them repeatedly even as you throw the occasional Mana Clash, Heal, Group Heal and Force Field. Basically, you'll have neither the time nor the opportunity to cast much else besides these spells (assuming you are playing your mage as an aggressive nuker) unless you're fighting a boss   - in which case you'll thank your lucky stars you got Staff Focus (or a DoT spell or two) so you can get a few hits in even as you try and keep your party alive (the range of the cone spells makes them tricky to use against bosses, particularly massive ones with knockdown/knockback/Grab attacks).

Thanks for the input. As you saw i'm trying to go offensive just cause its so hard to do with Morrigan or Wynne. How should i handle the siege of redcliffe at night. Cause too many of my spells will destory the townsfolk. Usally once i have Blood Wound Suviviality becomes less of a issue once i can do crushing prison basically on a mob of enemies all at once.

You won't need to worry about that if you do Redcliffe last. By that time your mage should have both Heal/Force Field to protect the townsfolk with (Force Field also works on NPCs) and your warriors should be able Taunt everything and survive getting mobbed with little help from you.
That quest is always hellish for anyone doing it early, doesn't matter what builds they have.

Ok thanks. I'm gonna remove Animate Dead probably and add Blood Control or just keep both. Thinking of Arcane Warrior as my 2nd specialization. Not for Combat Magic but for Shimmering Shield? Otherwise i'll go Spirit Healer and Keeper.

I decided to pump a few points into Constitution. Especially since my AoE's draw a lot of hate and i could use a little more hps till I get lifegiver and xfer my character to Awakening for Vitality Skill.

For the most part I've been using Sten or Morrigan, Alistair and Lelina for party members. May need to switch to Wynne to pick up the curing or do you think that would be unnecessary? Also i was thinking of adding Stonefist to my Spell selection for shattering effect.

Since you have that spell line, might as well grab Stonefist as well.

As for surviving AoEs: Storm of the Century is so powerful they often won't survive long enough to attack. One neat trick for surviving the AoE hate is simply to use Force Field on yourself. Since the hate is focused on you, your party members will not take damage for a good while.

Another strategy for AoEs is to combine them with glyphs. Glyph of Repulsion in a doorway, then AoE the enemies beyond the door. The second one of them actually manages to pass your glyph, follow up with a Glyph of Paralysis for the paralysis explosion combo.

I see you don't have glyphs. They are highly recommended if you get a few spare points for yourself, Wynne or Morrigan.

I never played the 360 version, but same way you target a heal. In the PC version you just click Force Field and then yourself.

Was considering replacing Heal with Drain Life for more of role playing purposes. Cause i don't think a Blood Mage would have anything from the creation tree. How good is Drain Life? I mean it probably wouldn't mean much since I would have Wynne or Blood Sacrifice.

bloodmage and spirit healer combo well. blood sacrifice your team mate and group heal them=infinite mana. drain life is not so powerful tho. in term of damage. but you can try. not sure will the amount healed be affected by blood magic.
