I've just finished the Garrus Loyalty quest on my most recent play through of ME2. I've always been of the opinion that Shepard will be in some way betrayed by someone close to him  in ME3 (not necessarily on a grand scale to the Reapers, maybe even a betrayal of a more personal nature) and Garrus was always my prime suspect

At the end of the mission Garrus turns to the camera and says to Shepard "What would you do if someone betrayed you Shepard"

- Is this possibly a glimpse into the future, or am I reading much to much into it !

Ohhhhh **** man this is the same thing I was think about, yeah what if Garrus or some one else, if their home world had to be sacrificed they would turn on you.
I wonder how many of our crew/former crew and friends would do that?

Why? Garrus has no reason to betray sheppard. You can't just pick a name out of a hat and say "...and, Garrus is the next evil betraying dude!'

Ok going back to the topic, How it would BioWare direct the betrayal of Shepards friends?
And by that I meant how it would look like.

I don't think Garrus will betray you. Shepherd has done a lot for him and you can tell with their banter that they are good friends plus i've always helped my crew no matter how dirty the mission (I've always let Garrus shoot Sidonis rather than talk him down even on my Paragon games) I would be pretty pissed if all that counted for nothing and he just went Trololololing into the distance come ME3.

Thats not to say that if I say "FU I ain't helping Palaven" that he won't be pissed and I hope to see stuff like that.

The way Garrus got all worked up over how Sidonis betrayed him, I doubt he'll betray Shepard and be like the man he was so determined to shoot without hearing an explanation.
I'm thinking of EDI. She is Reaper tech after all and who knows how she'll go all HAL 9000 on the Normandy crew. Or maybe even Shepard without knowing it, with all the cybernetics. What a twist!

Garrus is loyalty personified.

Not obedience, mind you, but loyalty. Though if you sacrifice Palaven, I can only assume he will at least leave you. Though if you were prepared do such a thing, you should've seen his reaction coming from a mile away.

... Joker?

And now I am imagining David and HAL having a humorous and semi-flirtatious relationship in the 2001 movie. Good times...

Joker as David Bowman?

Ok I don't mean to be a jerk, but I don't see joker "walking" out side the ship and then saying stuff like "My god so many Reapers".
Just joking^^^:)

Well, you never know with Joker. He's a constant surprise.

Indeed he's a surprise, also I read it somewhere that he's gonna be able to walk in ME3, so is it true?

That was more in reference to Garrus being betrayed by his own team member and asking Sheppard how he'd feel in his place for that specific occasion and not really, in my opinion, a glimpse of the future in regards to Garrus.

However that doesn't leave out that a character might betray Sheppard, but I can't imagine that it would be a LI that would do that, at least not without the possibility of redemption and forgiveness.

It'd be pretty cool to have our "Shepherd" face a "Judas" within their "Twelve."

The traitor won't be Garrus, because Garrus knows what it's like to be betrayed. His contempt for Sidonus is bitter. He wouldn't become that himself, not unless indoctrinated.

Space Jesus.

Heavy risk... but denying him thrice...

A betrayal would be a nice touch to the story, as long as it can be avoidable. Something I would love to see is Garrus questioning Shepards leadership. Take a look at what the Shadowbroker files said:

"Former C-Sec officer. Exceptional tactical and team-building skills. Leadership potential overshadowed by Shepard. Unlikely to fully develop under Shepard's command."

Now I'm not thinking Garrus would just say "**** this" and leave, that'd be a cop-out, But what if he does something akin to Wrex at Virmire or Sten in Dragon Age: Origins.
What if he suddenly doubts the idealistic Paragon's approach to the situation, or finds Renegade's brutal and merciless methods to unethical, even for him.

There are some people that think drama in ME3 is only achievable by killing off a squadmate or two, but seeing a faithful friend and comrade suddenly stop in his/her tracks with a hand/claw resting on the holster of his/her gun would really take them back.

I agree with eyerock, i was thinking the same thing with his shadow broker files he may just decide to leave though i mean it wouldent make sense for any of the previous crew to betray shep, maybe indoctrination ? I swear if bioware makes a previous squadmember indoctrinated and create some emotional situation i would love them forever for just doing it.

----There are some people that think drama in ME3 is only achievable by killing off a squadmate or two, ----

I hope people do die, its a galactic war i mean no one is invincible not even shepard, but i dont want it to inevitable like virmire, it would have to be down to your choices in me3 and previous choices over the 2 games, for example, you turn garrus paragon ? He steps in to take a bullet for either shep or a crewmember or some random civilian, renegade ? he runs of on his own to complete the mission without consent from anyone while shep is saving some random dude in a situation that can be compared to zaeeds loyalty you know something cool like that.

It pretty much can't be Garrus, since he's already potentially dead. A betrayer is too "good" of a plot, otherwise the compulsion would be to murder the betrayer meta-game style in ME2*. Which means that only new characters, Liara, and the VS [if they share a brain] can betray.

I think it's more likely an important NPC would do the betraying over a squadmate, just because of all the variables.

*Except perhaps incidental betrayals, like failing Zaeed's loyalty mission, or Morinth trying to mind-wipe you.

It would fit into my wild theory that the final boss will be the Normandy.
