Betrayal is a powerful theme when done correctly - especially for an entitled player base.

I'd love to see Garrus given a viable reason to betray Shepard.

It's interesting to see how "Black/White" many people are on the topic of betrayal... I thought we lived in a such a "grey morality" world. *snicker*

As to viable reasons to betray - in other threads, the possibility of intra-squad relationships not involving Shepard was brought up. If that were to happen, and Shepard makes a choice that causes the Squadmate's LI to die, that could be a reason.

Olivia: I'd forgive them. Then I'd kill them.

Orion: I'd kill them.

Depends on why they betrayed me. If Liara betrays me because I intentionally let Thessia burn or something like that then I would be somewhat sympathetic...and still kill her but at least I would grant a quick death. If Miranda just all of a sudden is like "Guess what? You are my little reaper tech experiment and we have gathered what we need. Your existence is now an inconvenience." then I would probably leave her to die slowly like I did Balak.

I'm always for evolving and taking a character or story somewhere else if it actually makes sense. I'd be perfectly fine with any character betraying you.

Kill them.

But that's my answer to everything, so don't take it too seriously.

Garrus is loyalty personified.

Not obedience, mind you, but loyalty. Though if you sacrifice Palaven, I can only assume he will at least leave you. Though if you were prepared do such a thing, you should've seen his reaction coming from a mile away.

*nods*

I mean, maybe Bioware could pull something out of their asses, since they make it so that you cannot unfriend the guy (I've tried with my racist Shep, but they're still buddies. I don't get it.). So judging only on that, it COULD be that Bioware is trying to do something along those betrayal lines, but... It wouldn't be true to his character. It wouldn't make sense.

It's be about as great of a plot twist as Meredith having the idol in DAII. Like... left field to the max.

I can also see a "Hunt the Betrayer" type DLC coming out post ME3

If someone would betray me, I would forgive them, but on the other hand that would depend on waht I've done to make them question me and then betray me.

I'm fairly certain that there will be an indoctrinated squad mate in ME3 and possibly on the Council and definitely within the Alliance. The trouble with indoctrination is that it is so hard to determine who is and who isn't indoctrinated and it has been going on for years as the influence of the Reapers continued to spread unabated throughout the leadership of the galaxy potentially crippling any effort to defend. In this sense, indoctrination becomes a highly effective third column.

Thus the question becomes one of who can you trust. As Shepard has been gone for two years, it's literally anyone's guess. This is the reason I am certain that we are going to get a knife in our back when we least expect it. That being said, you can plan for that in order to keep from being surprised when it happens. Well, as far as the game will allow you to plan anyway.

I'll be very surprised if Miranda doesn't betray Shepard.

Garrus died after ME1.

Who you saved was really a Reaper code named Archangel!

It would fit into my wild theory that the final boss will be the Normandy.

The Normady being a reaper the whole time?  That would mean that the whole crew could be indoctrinated...I love it.

Whoever is going to betray Shepard (I won't discuss spoilers), that person will have a reason to do so. The question is: will Shepard try to convince that person or will s/he shoot?

That's the question. And since you can decide for Garrus to spare Sidonis life or to end it, I hope Shepard can also decide if s/he should spare or end that someones life.

Well, first I'd do this and then punish the one who did it. Hard.

If it's someone that had earned my trust beforehand, or am otherwise emotionally-tied to (LI/good friend) I'd try to get answers first and then decide. If it's someone I didn't especially trust before, I'd still try to get answers but would more likely end up killing them than not. And lastly, someone I actively distrusted would likely be shot on sight.

Indoctrination has only one option.

I can see a betrayal or two in ME3, but I doubt they'd de-bro Garrus to that degree.

I feel like it would be Zaeed, Morinth, Grunt, or Jack. I feel like they are the only ones with enough balls to try it.

It's funny how many people in this thread would act just like the VI did on Horizon.

One of them tried and succeeded.
